Great hardware but beware of glitchy drivers

I really wanted to like this laptop. The specs sheet is nice. The ryzen 7 offers i5 like performance at reduced power = longer battery life. The 1660ti is great for playing most games at 1080p (which is what the built in display is) 16GB of ram and a 512GB ssd is a nice baseline too vs some competitors in this range with 8GB and 256GB.
Where I started to run into issues was with ASUS' drivers and the armory crate software. Initially everything worked fine. the extra hotkeys above the function keys worked well to open the armory crate software and the profile overlays opened correctly to display "silent" "balanced" "turbo" modes etc. However, after a windows update out of the box, these extra features stopped working as well as the MyASUS control app for limiting the battery charging to 60%, 80% when keeping the computer plugged in.
This was worsened further when going to the asus website for software updates, several of which could not be found even after registering product with exact serial number. Hopefully their site gets updated soon. this writing is as of 7/30/2019.
TL;DR this laptop offers great hardware at a very good price, but until ASUS' software updates become more refined I can't fully recommend it.

Dear Will87,
Thank you for your review, it's good to hear you were enjoying your laptop! I'm sorry to hear that you are having driver related issues, that certainly sounds frustrating. I'd recommend downloading all the drivers you need from the link here https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ROG-Zephyrus-G-GA502/HelpDesk_Download/. While you are there, updating the BIOS might help increase system stability moving forward, in case Windows updates disrupt some drivers. If you have any general or technical questions, please email me at [email protected]. I hope we can collaborate towards a solution on this issue. Please include case #N1907105125 in your email for reference.
Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Great for School-work and gaming. It runs better than my desktop and has the ability to connect to a larger screen. It has decent space, but an external storage drive could fix that easily. Great feel, good weight, and it runs like a dream. An amazing buy for what I got it for. If you find it on sale or in an open-box return in good condition, I'd highly recommend that you get it.

Better than Average

Solid laptop for the price, and as the title says it is much better than average.
Let’s start with the basics, the brightness off the laptop is around 270 nits, max settings.
It is equipped with a Ryzen 7, Vega 10 GPU, along with a 1660ti with a Intel 7 9th Generation I believe. Temperatures do throttle when gaming, but with an Ryzen Application called Ryzen Controller you can easily control the temps. Also for some reason on the Ryzen Asus G15 models, there are thin pieces of plastic blocking the vents from fully cooling the laptop. You can easily remove the plastic and have a temperature drop of around 5-10 degrees Celsius.
Oversized space bar is nice for gaming if that’s your thing, it is only a single zone RGB keyboard, I believe it is only a white backlit keyboard. When typing there isn’t much noise, travel key is rather easy to get use too. The build is plastic, BUT the top portion of the screen is a metal chassis, gives it a very nice and premium feeling even if it is a lower end gaming laptop.
Battery life is pretty good for a gaming laptop I’ll say around 5-6 hours if streaming Netflix or YouTube. Less if you’re gaming, but if you’re gaming you should be plugged in. Asus software allows you to stop charging once a certain percentage is reach to increase battery longevity so that’s pretty neat.
Asus Armoury Crate pretty much tells you your systems specs, the fan speed, decibels, voltage usage and temps and more. All in all it’s a solid laptop but there are a few things you have to tweak before you get use to it. Also the color accuracy is not that great.

Clean and Fast Intro to Gaming Laptops

This laptop is fast, and if you know anything about the value of it’s specs against a games, you’ll know it’s saying something that this can run everything, including Minecraft, like a champ! I’m pretty happy with my purchase, as it’s my first gaming laptop. I was nervous of the power it would pick, as I’m used to desktop being much more powerful, but it streamlined me in with its fast speeds and clean graphics.
I’m happy I got it, and I hope anyone else with my kinds of needs does too!

I don't know where to begin. I bought this after my old Dell Inspiron 14z laptop hit the end of it's lifespan. I didn't want to buy a laptop and an Xbox for gaming while going to College. So with my Student Deal savings I got this for a great price. I'm able to play my favorite games like Rocket Leauge at full graphics without any large framerate loss. Only downfall is that to get those types of framerates, you HAVE to have the laptop plugged into wall power or you'll see a difference. Accidently uplugged my laptop and the graphics dropped immedialty. But that is literally the ONLY complaint I have for this monster! ONE! The new AMD Ryzen 7 is a great price when compared to Intel and I feel that it's way faster. I love the power managment feature on this laptop. I can go from overclocking it playing games and its actually not to loud, but defiently noticable. Then put it in Silent mode, and you can't hear it in the classroom whatsoever, which my old laptop would be heard over the teacher talking. Talk about embarresing.

The Asus Zephyrus g is a well balanced price for performance mid range laptop that plays almost all modern, and every classic game you throw at it with solid performance and great fidelity. Specd out with the mobile power efficient Nvidia 1660ti max q packing 6gb of fast GDDR6 vram, the ryzen 7 3750H processor clocked at 2.3GHz, 16gb of ram, and a fresh no bloat ware 512gb SSD (if you don't count the "Asus Armory" software) this machine is no slouch. Build quality is solid with a dual brushed aluminum design for the lid with a stealth black Asus ROG logo that lights up a dim red when in operation. The body is entirely plastic but don't let it deter you. Fan noise and temps are respectable with something like the Witcher 3 or Metro Exodus set the fans to max with a definite but not overly loud fan roar and the main vents getting the hottest, but thankfully the excellent heatpipe design keeps the most used parts of the keyboard cool for a laptop this thin. The finish feels nice to the touch and the build quality is solid with little keyboard flex and minimal give when bending the screen or body with the overall look very incognito for a gaming laptop. Unlike most gaming laptops there is no controllable RGB lighting anywhere on the machine, the keyboard lights up with a pleasant complimentary white with 3 brightness settings and that's all you get. Touchpad is smooth and responsive utilizing windows precision drivers with a matte finish on top. Moving on to the thing you'll be focusing on the most... The screen. The 120Hz 1920x1080p vIPS panel is great in motion with a smooth refresh rate that leaves minimal ghosting as you sometimes see with high refresh displays. But color accuracy and brightness leave much to be desired with me constantly wishing during bright environments there was just 1-2 more ticks till max brightness, and going into both the Asus GameVisual software and windows settings to get a more desired color and contrast config. Overall the GA502 is a well rounded budget powerhouse that for the sale price I paid of an even $1000 this is one of the best available for the form factor.

I had been watching this model for a while and jumped on it once it went on sale. For the price range it's the best I could hope to buy. Build quality is excellent, rigid and with no flex at all. The display has decent color accuracy, adequate brightness, and boy oh boy the 120hz refresh rate is sweet at this price point. The speakers are really solid, loud, and clear. The GTX 1660ti Maxq paired with the Ryzen 7 3750H is perfect for running games in 1080p at higher settings, while not being too much of a power hog to affect the battery life as much as on most gaming laptops. I only just got this product but so far this laptop has been exactly what I needed and exactly what I expected to get out of it.

All in all this is a great laptop for the price. Runs most of my games very smoothly at high graphics. The touch pad does take some time to get use to. The only big issue I have is that the fan is very loud when running any high demanding programs. The laptop also runs fairly hot with most games. Sometimes it will cause a video lag. I was able to find a cheap solution to the heat and fan issue by purchasing a cooling pad that helps get a bit more cool air through the computer.

Great little machine. Lightweight, Efficient, and Powerful. I get better battery life out of this than I did with my 2014 MacBook Pro, which had a higher Wh battery. Performs well, charges quickly, and can handle nearly anything I throw at it! I did have some issues with drivers, but I got the laptop like the week it was released, so that is somewhat expected. Everything is working flawlessly now.

Great computer, fast and powerful. Gets hot but that's expected. Bought 2 of these. One has some strange behavior that the recipient didn't tell me about till after the warrantee. Hard to tell if it's software or hardware related but the 2nd one doesn't have any issues at all. Small harddrive 500gb but it's PCIe and there's another PCIe M.2 slot available at least. NO SATA ports in this machine just an FYI

Many reviews comment on the loudness of the fans spinning up but fail to recognize that you can change the fan profiles in ASUS's armoury crate software. When I have to work I set it to silent, and when I want higher performance gaming I set it to turbo. The combination of a ryzen cpu and 1660ti provides great performance for esports titles like overwatch, csgo, and apex legends, and is great for meeting that 120hz screen.
Speaking of the screen, the thin bezels are impressive, there's no motion blur to speak of and the apparently low adobe srgb color accuracy is a non issue for a normal consumer.
the only gripe or annoying thing is the lack of an onboard webcam, but in all honesty, anytime I need to do a video call on my laptop, I would have ample time and ability to set up a usb webcam.
All in all, this is a great package for its price, try and catch it on sale and you wont be disappointed .

This laptop is very fast, and overall so far has been a huge improvement on my last one. I can play bigger games like skyrim, hitman, gta5, all no problem. So far I have discovered few downsides:
The fans are very loud (they do make a very pleasant white noise sound though), and go into full speed 2 minutes after starting minecraft
My older laptop I could use upstairs (our internet modum is downstairs) no problem. This one I have to use downstairs, when I am upstairs I am too far away from the modum and keep getting kicked out of online game servers due to poor connection. I have ordered a better internet plan though with more bandwith so I am not sure if its an issue with laptop itself or my internet.
Sometimes the backlighting on the keyboard turns off and the only way I can get it to turn back on is to restart the laptop.
sometimes when the laptop has been on very a long time but not in use, shortly after turning on the screen the display goes black and I have to restart the laptop. The whole thing boots up in 1-2 minutes though if that, so this doesnt really bother me especially coming from a laptop that blue screened every 15 minutes
These are the only cons I have discovered so far. Overall this has been an excellent purchase that I'm very happy with.

I bought this laptop 2 weeks ago and so far it has been great, the build quality is quite good and it is pretty fast.
Pros
-Speed
-Clean design
-PRICE
Cons
-No webcam
My only complaint with this laptop so far is that I got a BSOD that I found out that can be recurring depending on the computer, so if it isn't a recurring problem, then I'll end up changing the rating to a 5.

it is a very good laptop if you are willing to compromise between performance and battery life. The Ryzen 7 processor will bottleneck even the maxq version of GTX 1660Ti , but you still get good framerate, very playable on high setting in most games at 1080p. The screen is passable for game and office work, 120Hz refresh rate but poor color reproduction and accuracy, cant expect much more at this price range. The thing I like the most are battery life unplugged (more than 5hr - low power setting, medium brightness) and no noticeable noise ( it will get loud while gaming though). Build quality is good, except they use 2 sets of different screws for back panel (7 m2-8 , and 7 m2-10). Take note or you will screw up. I almost did when open the laptop for second pcie ssd upgrade. second slot only supports m2 pcie x2, still plenty fast for data I/O.
recap: for the money, I don't think you can get better laptop, especially if you can find this one on sale ( I did ) and BB is very generous with their price-match policy.

I bought this yesterday and have to say I was extremely happy with it. I almost decided to buy a PC twice the price this one is, But I am truly glad I didn’t. This Laptop is not only fast and handles any game well but also is extremely thin and beautiful. It you want a fast laptop for school that can also definitely get you some quality gaming time in between classes or when you travel, this is the one to buy.

So far so good, I'm really liking this laptop a lot. The price was right as it was on sale for $950, I think that is a perfect price for this computer. Not sure if I'd purchase this at full price, would recommend waiting until its on sale. Runs Watch Dogs 2 as well as planet coaster without any issues. Fans do get a little loud but would consider that normal as my two other gaming laptops did the same thing. Obviously there are better computers out there however for the price this is a great budget laptop and serves the purpose I wanted it for. I chose the "budget" laptop as I still do most of my gaming on the xbox and with another high end xbox coming out in 2020 that's what I'll be gaming on mostly.

As a laymen with computers I was recommended this by a friend while on sale to be a good gaming laptop that was pretty affordable.
I've been extremely happy with the purchase. Outside of a few very intensive games this runs most games on High without performance issues.
It was easy to setup and use and I've had very few complaints and the I had were already mentioned in reviews so I was aware ahead of time.
It is a bit loud when the fans are running but if it keeps perfomance up because of it I think it's worth it and I haven't noticed any drops in performance from being to hot.
The battery life is a bit short when playing something but compared to the battery life I saw on compatible units it falls right in the same range.
I'd definitely recommend this especially when on sale to someone wanting a gaming laptop but doesn't want to spend a small fortune. I invested the saved money into a nice wireless keyboard and mouse and it doubles as a pretty decent desktop with the built HDMI hooked up a TV. Its very versatile.

Excellent price for what you are getting. Had a few issues with this model. Other ASUS zephyrus are coated with some sort of plastic so you dont leave fingerprints. This thing was a fingerprint magnet.
Also, it has a 2nd gen Ryzen CPU. Don't get it mixed up with the 3rd gen. The 2nd gen CPU's are pretty lackluster. The Zephyrus line also does not have cameras, so no way to video chat with friends.
The combination of these issues lead me to return it and grab a different Zephyrus model. If these things dont bother you and you want to game on something with a bit of firepower and dont want to spend much, then this is a great laptop.
