This review is for the second RT-BE92U I purchased from BestBuy. My initial experience with this router was in December 2024. The firmware was absolutely horrible. The router was usable for only a very short period of time before CPU resources would spike at 100%. Sometimes it was only one of the cores. But I had seen it spike to 100% on all 4 cores. The router was returned shortly afterward. Fastforward to March 2025... I purchased this router again after seeing a firmware fix for the CPU issue posted on the ASUS website on 2/17/2025. After getting the router updated and running it for a couple of months, it has been very stable. There have been three other firmware updates since then -- it looks like ASUS got their issues sorted out with this router. No real issues with it since then. Comparing the router to the one it replaced (ASUS RT-AX86U 1st Gen), this router offers the added benefits of WiFi-7. Many new devices are starting to support WiFi 7. For me, it was my Windows PCs. It is nice to be able to benefit from the additional speed provided by this technology, Additionally the router has support for the 6GHz band. It does sacrifice throughput on the 5GHz band as it has fewer antennas dedicated to that frequency. In both cases, neither is a need-to-have feature. But if you are interested in keeping current and your current router is either a legacy device or is now end-of-life, it's hard to say no to this router. The price makes this one a good buy if you want to be ready to support new features. With all the kinks worked out of the firmware, it's easy to recommend. If you need a router that gives you lots of configuration options (support for storage over USB, DNS-over-TLS, running all your traffic over a VPN connection, flexible firewall configuration, local network DNS, IP reservations, and more...), ASUS has you covered. I continue to use ASUS routers as they make all this functionality available through a web interface. They do have a mobile app as well for those who want to keep setting the router up simple. For power users, the web interface is awesome.

My ASUS RT-3100 was finally starting to fade, so it was time for an upgrade. Most of my home devices connect to wifi 6 or 6e, so I can't speak on wifi 7. However, my internet speeds have never been faster, and my signal strength has improved immensely. The router was super simple to set up and is very easy to manage. ASUS always delivers.

I've been running Asus routers for the past few years so I ended up with this unit after the BE96U I bought had dead ethernet ports and there were no other units in town or within a short drive. Setup is the same as with any other Asus router as the GUI is the same. Unit immediately picked up on my cable modem and started providing ethernet. With that said I run dual WAN so I had to add a switch to give all of my ethernet clients a connection. Take notice when setting up wireless as it binds all bands by default and I like to keep them separate. Asus should have at least 5 available ethernet ports on a router like this as you lose one when you enable dual WAN. Maybe they'll make a pro version with 8 ports in the future. Range is slightly better than with the unit it replaced, AX88U, which is important as I have a robot vacuum and various smart appliances that depend on wifi. I always keep my routers on a laptop cooling pad so I put a new Targus AWE83US pad under it which is completely flat since this unit is a little top heavy. In my use case wireless clients have the same internet bandwidth as wired clients which is a mix of 2.5 and 1 base t clients as tested on speedtest. If I should require more coverage in the future I'll get another unit and mesh them together.

Great router. I have Spectrum Gig internet and wanted to upgrade my Wifi 6E router to this one and it is fast. Gaming on wifi has never been better. Previously on any other router the signals would get way slower because our walls are practically solid (plywood then drywall over). But I can shut the door and still get fast speeds. Wifi 6 tends to get way slower especially through walls but with this router I have no problems gaming on wifi. But yeah great router!

I have owned this router for about 2-3 weeks now. It has been rock solid. I updated to the latest firmware upon connection (3.0.0.6.102) and so far, I cannot say anything negative. I setup all of the Wifi-bands and I have roughly 30 IOT devices connected to various bands. There could have been a bad batch of routers that's been out there for awhile, but maybe the latest batch of routers are fixed? Not sure. WIFI 6G is powerful but not great at penetrating walls just yet. 5G is probably still the prefer when you're not close to the router.

I Paired this router with an Arris s34 and its running good so far .Im on Xfinity x2 multi gig plan and I’m getting my speeds im paying for which are 2.3 gbps down and 335 mbps up, However i did notice with my iphone 16 pro max that sometimes it automatically puts me in the second ssid Iot which i dont understand why so i have to go into phones wifi settings and forget network and reconnect to other ssid. I also noticed that my iphone 16 pro max is utilizing mlo.just not sure if its normal for it to switch often

I purchased this router to replace a 6 year old model that was no longer receiving any software updates. This Asus Rt-BE92U was setup without any issues. The range is very good, and I have not had any problems with connecting any existing device. The 6Mhz band has really improved the network performance with my cell phone.

Title says it all. First, I was doubtful after reading all the reviews but still gave it a shot since if it doesn't work then I can return it plus I am in need of a 2.5gb capable router that will work with my current set-up. Coming from a previous Asus router, I know full well the hassle and pain of the initial set-up. It took me roughly 3-6 hours to set everything up to work flawlessly with my current AI-Mesh set-up. I set this router up as my main router, then had to factory reset my RT-AX86U and RT-AX82U to function as my mesh nodes via wired backhaul using MOCA. After that I had to configure the settings to what I wanted and then couple of reboots. VPN on router works, I use Nord VPN. Dual WAN works (Primary is frontier, Secondary Xfinity). It doesn't have the gaming mode like the RT-AX86U but if you know your port forwarding settings, etc then it should be a non issue. Also for those wondering, you can install wrt-merlin firmware with this router as I am using it right now. Have not had the issue of the router just going to reboot by itself, my CPU usage is 66-70% if you should know. Been using it for a 6 weeks with no issues. Overall, I can recommend this router ONLY if you have the patience to set it up initially otherwise I am a happy ASUS router customer.

This router is a good option if you need an advanced router and have some experience with networking. The wi-fi itself is quite fast, especially if you have any devices with WIFI 7. I've had this router for about 6 months now and it's been pretty reliable, no random drops or resets needed which is great! That said, it did give me some headaches on compatibility with older devices, including ASUS's own mesh node routers. If you've got a lot of older stuff on your network definitely recommend researching that first before purchasing.

Faster than my AX82U but I was replacing my AX11000 Pro due to an earlier firmware failure so it doesn't seem as fast as that device on my network. TV connected by Ethernet is doing well and wife's phone Pixel 8 hits 500mb even though it's on the opposite side of the house about 25 feet and through a few floors and walls. I say it is worth the price.

I use this in media bridge mode and flashed latest merlin firmware. This router is downstairs and connects to the main router upstairs (BE98 PRO). Connectivity has been ROCK SOLID. I monitor the routers connectivity by pinging the main router with a PC connected via eithernet and logging the response every 20 seconds .

Much Improved After Firmware Update (6/27/2025)

I’ve had this router for a couple of months now, and while it was decent out of the box, it definitely had its quirks — occasional Wi-Fi drops and some inconsistent speeds. However, after the firmware update released on June 27, 2025, it’s a whole different experience. The update resolved most of the issues I was having — no more random disconnections, and speeds are now consistently fast across all bands. Setup is still a bit technical if you're not familiar with router settings, but once configured, it’s been very reliable. Glad ASUS followed through with updates to make the hardware live up to its potential. If you were on the fence because of early reviews, it’s worth a second look now.

This is a fantastic router, user interface is good but labeling leaves a little bit to be desired. Performance, ease of set up and use are all top tier. One of the coolest thing it does that I haven't seen from my previous Linksys routers which I had always sworn by is the ability to still control almost everything this router can do while in access point mode. I'm not sure if that's become the new standard but it is a huge game changer since I use a firewall and really just need this for wifi signal. Parental controls, iot networks all being isolated and controllable from the router interface instead of having to go into the firewall and setting everything up via Mac address is a huge quality of life improvement! Signal is strong, fast and I cannot recommend this router enough

Out of three of these I pirchased one was bad and had to be swapped out by Best Buy. Easy enough to do. However, one other one had to have a hard reset to get it to work. There are problems with all of these according to Asus, however, most can be fixed with just a simple hard reset. My suggestion is that before setting it up, update the firmware and do a hard reset. If it is really slow and pokey getting around the menus, just take it back and exchange it. Asus told me it should only take a single hard reset to fix them. If that doesnt do it, then it is officially a hardware issue. The routers once working are extremly fast and have been very reliable for the past month. I moved up from Ax88U’s and there is a huge difference in speed using wifi6. I dont have any wifi7 devices so i cannot say how that works. Range is better and speed is almost double what i was getting before. It was worth the upgrade and the hassles.

This is probably the best mid tier tri-band WiFi 7 router in the market in this price range. I tried using MLO but had some issues with older devices, so I reverted to leaving it off. Other than that, this router has been rock solid with no drops in connection and getting the full 500Mbps speed I pay for on wireless devices. Range is good, I'm getting around 400Mbps even through several walls and on the other side of the house on the 1st floor (router is on the second floor). The 2.4 Ghz band has slower speeds but good range, but I'm finding that the 5 Ghz band can cover roughly 2,000 sq ft without issue and at better speeds than the 2.4 band. It's nice to know it has AiMesh if I ever need to extend the range, but that's not necessary for houses under 2,500 sq ft. I'm very happy with this router for my needs (about 20 devices) and have confidence that I've future proofed my network for years to come.

Great performance. Wifi7 is not too different from Wifi6E but definitely an upgrade coming from an old 5ghz router, 6GHz band with longer longer range makes this product great! I like Asus software, lots of tools and config security options, handles well on cloud gaming (geforcenow) and Moonlight. Ping is definitely better (~25 vs 45 previously) and no need for a mesh system in the house, signal dropped only 1 bar on PC/phones 1 floor and walls 45ft (350mbps) away. 20ft still get full gigabit speeds. Recommended since this is the cheapest one for now, maybe wait for blackfriday deals. Works great on Galaxy S24 Ultra Wifi7 enabled natively. Easier to setup connected to PC via ethernet cable on asusrouter.com or 192.168.50.1

Bought this to replace a TP-Link which I just saw on the news that it's a Chinese hack vulnerability and may be banned in the US. This is a more expensive router than what I replaced with but it has upgraded WPA and WiFi 7. Although I don't have any WiFi 7 devices, this makes it easy when I do upgrade other devices that use it. Overall, this seems to be faster than the TP-Link. Setup was fairly easy with the Mesh that I also bought. Download on Wifi is over 500Mbps. I have full signal even outside the house, so range seems good. So far pretty happy. Longevity is an unknown since I have only had it for a few hours.

I had to buy a new router ASAP because one of my cats chewed on the power cord and shorted something out. I had the Asus GT-AX11000 which was an amazing router in its own right and it had twice the range that this one has. Upgrading to WiFi 7 was not in the plans. What I like is that this router has the 6 gHz band on it. At first, I thought that ALL WiFi 7 routers had that band, but that is not the case. My FireTV stick seems to pick that band automatically and it is very reliable. If I had my choice though, I would prefer to use my other router if it still worked, but this one does the job.
