After doing some research on laptops, I was looking for something that could fairy reasonably replace my desktop build (not exact as the Desktop runs a 16 core / 32 thread CPU, and an RTX 3090) at least good enough that the tradeoff between mobility and performance would balance out.
My price limit was $1500, and Macs were out, because their gaming capabilities are weak overall, and they cannot emulate Windows Server operating Systems. Maybe in the future all that will change, but for now it’s a Windows world.
I wanted the device to be upgradeable, as I didn’t want the machine to be stuck at whatever generic specs Best Buy had in stock, so I wanted a 2nd Drive slot and removable RAM sticks, as well as Wi-Fi and BT Upgradeable options.
I decided to give the budget friendly TUF FX507ZI4 Best Buy configuration (more on that later, as that is a turnoff for some).
I do not usually do this much testing, but there were so many questions regarding the laptop, that I decided to see if I could answer them. I used a noise level meter for the sound, my LG C2 OLED to verify the HDMI Port, while using HWINFO to find the panel model and specs of the LCD. Everything else that was tested was purely using web resources or scripts I personally wrote.

I rarely leave reviews. This laptop is built well. The battery lasts long. The graphics are great. It plays starfield on ultra no problem. I love the trackpad. The keyboard is decent. The screen is decent. The computer is quick. It almost never stutters. It doesnt get hot. This is a huge upgrade from my alienware 1070 max-q. I got this laptop for $1000, which is the best deal on the interenet

Best budget lapotp with an rtx 4070. All other features are great and aren't missing anything crucial. DDR4 memory and last gen CPU are all great, in my opinion DDR5 does not make that big of an impact currently anyways and CPUs from last generation are still very powerful. Would probably last a good 2.5 years at least maybe 5 before becoming obselete.
Battery life is pretty good, could see 6 hours easily maybe 8+ with some setting tweaks.
Color quality is very good, that 100% SRGB really shines. Screen quality is alright for 1080P, DLSS actually made some games look worse, wished it had a 1200p screen for having an rtx 4070, many laptops with a rtx 4060 have even 1600p screens for this same pricepoint.
Laptop was bought as an open box. The moment I opened it there was a strong cigarrete or smoke smell. I was hoping it was just the box but the laptop vent itself also smells of smoke. I wanted to see if it would improve over a few days but it has been about a week and smell is still coming from the vent and box.
While gaming the top of the laptop above the keyboard near the power indicator light and surrouding area gets very hot, I don't like that the heat is getting up there and remaining. I even had it held up with nothing underneath for great airflow and it was still extremely hot to the touch in that area. Maybe from the previous owner smoking this is affected.

This gaming laptop is an absolute beast! The sleek design and lightweight build make it perfect for taking on the go, while the powerful specs ensure smooth gameplay even for demanding titles like Forza Motorsport. I crank the graphics settings to max and still enjoy butter-smooth 60fps racing, with stunning visuals that bring the tracks to life. The keyboard is incredibly responsive, with tactile keys that make cornering and drifting a joy.
While the battery life could be better, it's a small trade-off for such incredible performance. Overall, this laptop is a dream come true for any serious gamer. If you're looking for a machine that can handle your favorite titles with ease and style, look no further.

So far its a pretty solid computer. The fact it has a 12the gen i7 and not a 13gen is not even noticable. Since it has the 4070 in it, it rips through games and apps like a pro. I do like Asus built in softwaree as well as Armour crate which makes controling things like the fan, GPU and so on a breeze. Picked it up on sale and honestly and happy i did. 0 buyers remorse. The part that makes me smile the most is when certain softwares do an enviroment test and come back "your computer can run this software smoothly". Really cant go wrong on price at 1k and what you get. Solid build. Only thing lacking would be the quality of built in speakers but i never use them so it doesnt matter.

Got it on sale for 999. RAM upgrade i did bought from BB Crucial 32GB (2-16GB) 3400 DDR4 at the same time added a Samsung 980 pro 2 TB SSD. liked the fact that its not stuffed with extra crap software ill never use. It will run most new games on mid to high setting. Screen is ok for the price have to jump up about 1K more to move i to the better screens. This does get hot while gaming advise a cooling pad. 2.1HDMI for true 4K gaming into my LG OLED TV. Only complaint i have is the battery life. Other reviews have stated the same and some have found work arounds to extend havent gotten that far yet. Keyboard and touchpad have a good feel to them. Overall very happy and highly recommend.

At the price, especially during sale promotions this is the laptop to buy if you're looking for the most performance per dollar. It has an older Intel processor and uses DDR4 RAM, but I never found it to be a bottleneck and it's paired with an RTX 4070 which is incredible at this price point. Plus you can easily add a second NVME drive and add up to 64GB of ram for added performance.
Now for the things I don't necessarily like: the battery life is mediocre, but can be improved with some tweaks via Asus Armoury Crate. The laptop speakers are a bit muddy and not particularly loud. Also, if you have clammy hands, this laptop is a huge fingerprint magnet.

This is a fantastic gaming laptop, especially for the prices that it usually goes for. It runs high end games efficiently, is quiet with custom power / fan profiles, and doesn't break the bank. RAM and SSD can easily be upgraded (search online to confirm compatible RAM, but as a general rule, Crucial and G.Skill should be compatible.)
Pros
* The 4070 laptop GPU drives the 1080p screen very well even for highly demanding modern games
* Fan profiles can be customized so that games play at high resolution / FPS while not making much noise
* Laptop is actually relatively small and portable
* Numpad
Neutral
* 1080p screen is not bad. It is 100% sRGB, so colors are good, but we are spoiled by high end OLED phones and TVs these days. That said, the resolution being only 1080p is useful for laptop gaming, since driving a 1440p or higher screen at this moment in history requires much more wattage, cooling power, fan noise, etc.
Cons
* ASUS is not the greatest with driver support. You have to run older NVIDIA drivers released by ASUS rather than the most up-to-date drivers released by NVIDIA for the laptop to perform efficiently
* ASUS seems to give people the runaround with warranty support. Buying this laptop from Best Buy should make this less of an issue though, as there's a flyer in the box stating that you can bring this laptop to either Geek Squad or ASUS for warranty support. I would definitely opt for Geek Squad if any warranty coverage was ever needed.

I'm a person who owns/operates a *lot* of computers. As someone that works in cyber security, I run my own home lab, along with many at work. I purchased this when one of my old dev laptops died and I downgraded my gaming laptop to a new dev laptop.
This may be the single best valued computer I've ever bought. It absolutely blows away the gaming desktop I built for myself last year. I can play virtually every game I've tried so far at max graphics. This thing is fantastic.

I wasn't even in the market for a gaming laptop. I stumbled across Bestbuys 48 hour flash sale and saw this. 999.99 is an absolute steal!!! I had to pull the trigger and am so happy I did. Getting around 100 fps in Baldurs gate 3 on the highest settings. Cyberpunk 2077 on ultra with Ray Tracing on gets anywhere from 60-110 fps depending how much is on screen. This computer is a beast.
The computer itself feels really solid. Metal lid with hard plastic everywhere else. Very minimal flex and the keyboard types pretty well. I prefer ThinkPad keyboards since those are the best in the industry but I have no complaints here. The glass trackpad was a surprise, very nice feature! Feels great to use. The computer is surprisingly quite for how demanding some games can be. Temps are great as well. Battery life at 90w is fantastic. This is an absolute buy even at a couple hundred more. Its a steal at a 1000. Be on the lookout.

For the price. You really cant beat this with a full powered rtx 4070. The only thing/ catch here is the ram. Its ddr4 instead of ddr5. This is not a huuuge deal but somrthing to keep in mind espiecially for the future. Also the display is decent but it does only get 30p nits of brithness which i find is usually fine indoors. Other than that the performance is solid, keyboard is great and the temps are really good!

This by far the best deal out there for a RTX 4070 gaming laptop. So far all the games I have loaded are running flawlessly at high FPS with high to ultra high settings. I did a couple of upgrades so far. I added a T-Force DDR4 32GB 3200 CL22-22-22-52 kit and kept it at 1.2V like the OEM memory. I also added a second M.2 2TB Samsung 990 PRO that was on a smoking deal from Best Buy. Upgrading this Laptop is super easy. I also purchased an IFIXIT kit from Best Buy. Do yourself a favor and get a IFIXIT kit before you open up any laptop. It has everything you need and will not damage anything. If you can score this for under $1000 I suggest you jump on it before they are sold out!

If you can get this on sale buy it. Display is awesome. I saw some reviews that said the ASUS TUF display isn't so good. Those must have been for another model because this 144hz full HD is great and it's plenty bright and great for gaming. 16 GB ram and 1 TB SSD is good for most. Funny thing is I upgraded from another ASUS laptop with 500 GB SSD that had windows 10 and was 80% full and transferred everything over and this one with windows 11 was 70% full. I expected a bigger difference but I guess windows 11 and the newer ASUS laptops has more stuff in them. Battery sessions will be short if using the the 4070 graphics card on the battery. I have mine set to use the motherboard GPU when on battery and only use the 4070 card when plugged in playing games that need that. The battery will last much longer that way. I also have it stop charging at 80% to conserve the battery life. I had a ASUS Zenbook gaming laptop prior to this but this is so much better. Highly recommended if you can find it on sale at 900 to 1000, Love this computer.

Seems like this laptop is a great deal. I was worried about the slower ddr4 3200 RAM but with 2 8gig sticks its fine. I upgraded to 32gb for $55, and as long as I had it apart I threw in a 2tb Samsung 990 pro for $134. Since I got the laptop when it was on sale for $999, I think I now have a laptop that will last me for quite some time. I love it and battery lasts me about 6 - 8 hours. If Im gaming newer games it lasts me a coue hours maybe more. i typically play for less than 2 hours at a time, so not really an issue nor have I ever ran out of battery. This is a very nice laptop and I am very satisfied with my purchase and how easy it was to upgrade. Would recommend unless you need to have the very top specs. But bang for the buck.. this one gets high marks!

This laptop is solid, even though this uses a 12th gen i7 and ddr4 3200mhz sodimm. The 4070 is good for 1080p gaming, and light video editing. The price (was 1100 + tax when I purchased) is especially great compared to comparable current gen offerings. Battery life is good, I wouldn't run this at max power on battery, though. The battery saver features are good, however, if you do plan to game on the go.

Good laptop, well-priced considering the specs. They cheaped out on the screen for obvious reasons...ASUS software might seem bloaty to some...There are other options out there that replicate their functionality...Laptop has held up with heavy usage...There were no massive hardware/software QC issues upon delivery...YMMV

During the holidays I was able to get this laptop on sale for under $1000.
While it physically comes w/just 16 GB of DDR4 Memory, it's expandable, officially, up to 32 GB, and unofficially, to 64 GB, which is what I have in my laptop, w/no problems what-so-ever.
Many laptops now-a-days have soldered in memory w/no expansion of any kind, so be carefully when purchasing.
Today's games are fast surpassing the requirement of 16 GB of memory.
Also too, I upgraded the stock 1 TB M.2 SSD to the faster 2 TB Samsung 990Pro, once again, w/no problems. Also too, it has two M.2 slots vs. just one, which some laptops come with.
One thing nice about this laptop is that Asus has a Cloud application via their BIOS allowing an easy way to reload Windows on a new SSD. That's especially where having a rare RJ45 jack comes in.
Then the laptop comes w/the latest generation of Nvidia's graphics, using the GeForce 4070 GPU.
The CPU is last year's Intel i7-12700H, but it still works just fine.
Uses DDR4 vs. DDR5, which is cheaper to buy, but almost as fast.
It also comes w/a Thunderbolt 4 jack which supports video w/some of todays new monitors coming out.

I bought this laptop when it was on sale for $999. I've had it for over a month now and have had zero issues.
I upgraded the ram to 32gb (2x16gb) and added a second 1tb m.2 drive. I asked both best buy geek squad and the manufacturer Asus if I was allowed to upgrade it myself without voiding the warranty. They both allowed me too. The process was simple.
The laptop if well made and sturdy. I mostly use it when docked with my g9 monitor and I use a wireless keyboard and mouse.
I play modern games at 1440p with great results. I'm currently playing Hell Divers 2 and loving it. The 4070 mobile handles everything I throw at it even though it is a laptop variant and not as powerful as a full size desktop card.
I bought the 3 year best buy geek squad protection plan and I have the laptop insured through progressive for $1,500 (after the upgrades) at the cost of $9 per month.
I have nothing negative to say about this machine and I would easily repurchase it if I had to redo the process again. Thanks.

Great product so far. I'm happy with its performance and build quality so far. I was able to receive it within a relatively short time frame.
The only con I've experienced while using it is a sudden shut-off that I can't identify a trigger for. this has happened about 2 times over the course of the first week of using the laptop. I suspect that it's been fixed by a bios update but would like you to be aware of this in case you plan on using this for any critical workloads.

Very nice and smooth gaming laptop. Definitely has great value to price ratio. A 4070 with i7 for $999, I would say this is a no brain go to if you are looking for a gaming pc. It is a bit heavy, which is not totally bad. Because it seems like this machines is built to last, great quality.
