Very happy with this Gaming Laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve owned all sorts of laptops over the last 20 years+, and it never ceases to amaze me how much improvement manufacturers continue to make. I’ve owned ASUS laptops (gaming and non-gaming) for the last 11 years. I think they are a solid computer company that offers competitive pricing and performance. This laptop is no exception. TL;DR Pros Design and Esthetics Great Gaming Hardware Ports and features for size of the laptop Powerful and Fast Upgradeable! Cons Screen is average Speakers are basic Drive encryption not available out of box User Manual could be better May need to upgrade HD and/or Memory for power users The Good… Gaming/Scores/CPU First off, this laptop is impressive with power and speed. I’ve been using this not only for gaming but for work and personal-use. I enjoy having half a dozen programs running with 20-30 browser tabs open and still running smoothly. This laptop easily handles all that and more. Gaming wise, its performance is outstanding. The RTX 3070 does not pull any punches and I have all my COD Modern Warfare settings on Max running anywhere from 80-120 FPS. The intel processor has impressive performance for a laptop model CPU. I ran a benchmark against my new desktop (full size) processor and it somehow beat it in an 8-thread count according to the CPU benchmark on 3d Mark, and had a close second place in the other CPU tests. Overall my desktop outperformed it (not by much) except in the 8 thread count, but very impressed with the results. CPU Benchmark - 8 thread: ASUS TUF 5786 vs my Desktop 5524 I couldn’t properly compare the graphics score as my video card on my desktop is way outdated (GTX 970), but like I said it performs extremely well. My previous gaming laptop sported an RTX 3060 card, and the benchmark difference between that and the RTX 3070 isn’t quite as big as I thought (roughly a 20% improvement with scores), but the 2 extra GB of memory definitely helped. This laptop also runs cooler compared to other gaming laptops I’ve used, around 2-8 degree Celsius cooler on average from my experience, and with higher settings too. It touts a 4 fan outlet, which I’m assuming is part of the reason for this. Design I really love the design of this laptop. They really pack a lot into this 15.6” screen/laptop size. Normally the smaller laptops this size have limited ports and features, but they pretty much gave this laptop everything the bigger ones have including a nearly full size keyboard with a number pad, 2 USB C ports (one is Thunderbolt 4!), 2 USB A ports, and an ethernet port. And of course you get your HDMI, 3.5mm headphone, and kensington lock options there too. The black look of the laptop is slick, backlit keyboard, and looks professional without all the excessive gaming lights and emblems that you see many others have. When the laptop is closed its quite slim and lightweight considering its performance. However, I’m not a big fan of how the power port is right next to the ethernet and hdmi port. Most of the time I’m plugging in the laptop from the front, and the power cable runs across 6 of the ports partially blocking/covering them. I’m sure there was a design limitation with the small size of this, but it can be a nuisance moving the cable when I want to plug in everytime. Battery Life Battery life has been good thus far, at least for a gaming laptop. ASUS has different power modes for you to choose from in their Armory software and it will automatically switch based on your power source. I have yet to fully see how long a charged battery will fully last until it dies, but from my experience, I’d say over 2 hours of battery life with general usage (non-gaming). Upgradeable! This is one of the better things I think ASUS did when designing this laptop, you can add a second nvme drive and/or replace the existing hard drive in the laptop! Its great there are 2 slots for this, especially for a 15” laptop. You can also upgrade the RAM, which is quite surprising. Usually laptops will have at least one memory stick built into the motherboard, but both sticks are removable and easy to upgrade if you like. ASUS really hit a homerun with this design. You can see my picture attached. Could use some improvement… A few other things I noticed was that Drive Encryption is not available out of the box for this Hard Drive. This is partially a windows setup issue as all versions of Windows Home should come with Drive Encryption as an option (not to be confused with Bit Locker that is included for the Pro versions). This can probably be fixed with some setting changes, but I haven’t had the chance to really figure it out, and at this point I might just upgrade to the Pro version of Windows to get Bit Locker. This is a very important feature for me. There was also very little useful information in the user manual and upgrade manual for me.For instance, I couldn’t even find any solid information on expanding memory or hard drives, hence why I opened it up myself. Which brings me to my next concern, if you are a heavy gamer, you may want to consider upgrading memory and HD. 16GB’s is a good size, but I max it out easily and having a couple of games and some programs installed on it already I’ve taken over half the HD space. However, if you are a casual gamer this may be more than enough for you. As you saw from my earlier comment, this is easily upgradeable though. Screen The picture on this screen is far from high quality, but its not bad especially at 144hz on IPS, but I expected better. I have noticed a few lines come across while gaming in certain scenarios but they quickly fade away, but can be annoying. It doesn’t affect me in any way except that I will notice it briefly here and there. I would love to have seen a higher quality screen for this laptop since it features a powerful GPU. Alternatively, my suggestion is to get a high quality gaming monitor and plug it into the USB C or HDMI port of this laptop to really take advantage of the amazing graphics this laptop can push out. I have one at home with a KVM switch that I can switch between my laptop and desktop, very convenient and it looks so much better when this laptop is plugged in. Audio The speakers are also nothing to write home about, they sound pretty basic. Fairly loud, but I did have higher expectations for them. Also better to buy a dedicated set of speakers for your desk or quality headphones to carry around with you. Overall I think this is a great gaming laptop and at a phenomenal price, especially with the video card dilemma that has been around the past few years. My suggestion to get the most out of this, is to get a quality gaming monitor with a speaker set and mouse and keyboard all plugged into a Thunderbolt docking station when you’re at home and when you’re gone, this laptop will easily fit into a backpack or carrying case no problem. If you’re on the fence, try it out. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Thin but powerful
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The best place to start is getting a few things out of the way, this is advertised as a budget friendly gaming laptop, It doesn’t have a touch screen, pen input, or a 2-in-1 design. So, I look at this as a gaming machine but not necessarily a multipurpose laptop. Being a gaming machine, it runs AutoCAD, Solid works, Mathcad, MATLAB, Visual Studio, and all of the other programs you might need for STEM type classes or careers without an issue. Typing on this feels good especially for a laptop, no it isn’t as amazing as someone’s desktop mechanical keyboard but way better than a lot of keyboards out there on laptops. Even if the number pad is a tad squished. I think the biggest issue I have with the keyboard is the airplane/f12 button. When I go for the delete button, I’ll accidentally hit that button instead. The overall design looks good, that smooth black exterior with the x of lights just looks good in my opinion. The power button is located at the top of the keyboard instead of the side which makes it so that you don’t accidently turn the screen off when you move the laptop. The track pad is a nice size, but I do need to remember to lift my wrists when typing otherwise I’ll swipe it a tad bit and screw my self up while trying to type. I really like that there is a USB C charging option on top of the dedicated charger and I appreciate USB A ports on both sides, I just wish the USB C ports were on both sides. The dedicated HDMI is a given on a gaming laptop and works great but the real bonus is the ethernet port. This is really nice and not just for gaming, on the engineering side configuring devices often uses an ethernet port so if you are using this at school or work for that, there is one less dongle to carry around. The speakers are okay, not terrible, not amazing, but better than most laptops. Personally, I plugged in my gaming headset and just used those as they are much better. For a quick video call the speakers work great as well as the mic. The camera isn’t amazing quality, but it is good enough if you want to use that. I would prefer if it had a cover. Now to the actual gaming part of the review, which is quick and easy in some ways, I can play whatever I want on this. If your interested in FPS counts on all of the different games you’ll have to dive though YouTube reviews as I’m just not that type of gamer. My favorite game is Horizon 5 right now which is a blast on this and looks awesome on it even on ‘extreme’ settings. I haven’t run into a game that doesn’t look awesome on this. The screen and refresh rate help make this a pretty perfect on the go gaming machine. The sacrifice your making with this laptop is it is designed for gaming first which means the screen is 1080p, no touchscreen, no pen input, while super thin not thin compared to non-gaming ultra-thin laptops. But if you’re a gamer first and want something on the go, or if you’re like me and pair it with a tablet that has my pen input for note taking than this is an amazing powerhouse. The 15.6” screen is big enough to work off of easily anywhere, the battery life lasts all day as long as you’re not gaming, and it is light and sleek enough to easily fit in your backpack. This is a serious gaming machine stuffed into a small package that stays decently cool. Overall, I am extremely impressed with it.

Good laptop at an affordable price
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS TUF Dash 15.6" FHD 144Hz Gaming Laptop is a powerful gaming machine that combines high-performance hardware with a sleek design. With an Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB DDR5 memory, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card, this laptop is built to handle demanding games and tasks with ease. Let's dive into the details and evaluate its various aspects. Design and Build Quality: The TUF Dash features a clean and professional design with an off-black color scheme. The laptop has a sturdy construction, with a combination of metal and plastic materials that provide a good balance of durability and portability. It weighs around 4.4 pounds (2 kg) and measures just 0.8 inches (20.4mm) thin, making it relatively lightweight and easily portable for a gaming laptop. Display: The 15.6-inch Full HD display offers a 144Hz refresh rate, providing smooth and fluid visuals, which is crucial for an immersive gaming experience. The screen has narrow bezels, resulting in a larger screen-to-body ratio and an enhanced viewing experience. The color accuracy and contrast levels are decent, although not as exceptional as some higher-end displays. Overall, it is a solid display for gaming and multimedia consumption. Performance: Under the hood, the TUF Dash is equipped with an Intel Core i7 processor, which is a high-performance CPU capable of handling resource-intensive tasks. The 16GB DDR5 memory ensures smooth multitasking and fast loading times, allowing you to run multiple applications simultaneously without any noticeable lag. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card is a powerhouse that delivers exceptional gaming performance, enabling you to play the latest AAA titles at high settings with excellent frame rates. The 512GB PCIe SSD provides ample storage space for your games, files, and media, although it may fill up quickly if you have a large game library. Cooling and Thermals: Gaming laptops tend to generate a significant amount of heat, but the TUF Dash features an efficient cooling system. It utilizes an advanced cooling solution with multiple heat pipes and dual fans to keep the temperature under control during intense gaming sessions. The laptop also includes ASUS' proprietary cooling software to optimize performance and maintain lower temperatures, reducing the chances of thermal throttling. Keyboard and Touchpad: The keyboard on the TUF Dash is a highlight, offering a comfortable typing experience with good key travel and responsiveness. The keys are backlit and feature customizable RGB lighting, allowing you to personalize the look to your preference. The touchpad is spacious and responsive, providing smooth cursor movement and accurate tracking. Connectivity and Ports: The laptop offers a decent selection of ports, including three USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a Thunderbolt 4/USB-C port, an HDMI 2.0b port, an Ethernet port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The Thunderbolt 4/USB-C port provides fast data transfer speeds and can be used for external display connections or charging compatible devices. Battery Life: Given its powerful hardware, the TUF Dash's battery life is average at best. During gaming sessions, the battery drains quickly, as expected. Under normal usage conditions, such as web browsing and document editing, you can expect around 4-6 hours of battery life. It's recommended to have the power adapter handy for extended gaming sessions or resource-intensive tasks. Audio: The laptop features a dual-speaker system with DTS:X Ultra technology, providing immersive and well-balanced audio All and all great product for the price

Jack of all trades!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Asus Tuff Dash 15.6" Gaming laptop is great! I have reviewed the unit in stock hardware and software packaging: This laptop came well packaged and protected in a sensible recyclable brown cardboard box. package contents: - Laptop - user guides and warrantee - Charging cable and brick. Design: the laptop is very well designed. it has an aluminum or metal alloy cover with plastic or polymer back. it has 2 tone color for the front and back covers which is very nice. the laptop is NOT a finger print magnet although its matte colored where your palms rest. the hinge seems to be well made but the screen cant be open with one hand to to its thinness there is some flex when you try to open it with one hand. Keyboard: the keyboard is well made and has decent feel and feedback. it is back lit with the WASD letters in clear color instead of solid black to. it looks nice and gaming ready yet still professional enough to take to the office. Touch pad: very good space and big size, although maybe too big for some as you may accidentally rest your palm on it while trying to type. Ports placement: there is 1 USB 3 on the right side, no ports at all in the back. the left side has 1 USB 3, 2 USB C ports with one of them a being a charging port with Thunderbolt 4, an ethernet port, a power port, HDMI 2 port and headphone jack. exhausts are on the right and left side as well as the back. Screen and bezel: the screen has minimal bezel at the top and the sides and a reasonable bezel at the bottom. It also has a camera at the top, but no security shutter. the camera quality is OK at best but works more than enough for meeting and video conferencing. Storage and portability: this laptop is very solid, and it is a smaller gaming laptop compared to others. it can fit any 15.6 bag and the charging brick isnt huge. if you are using the laptop for work and sometime take it to the office, you might get away with taking it without the charging brick if you are using sensible power saving features. or you can plug it to any USB charger to be able to finish the day. Specifications, Benchmarking, and real life usability I am using this laptop as a daily driver and occasional gaming laptop that replaces my Lenovo Legion Y530 with 8th Gen I7, 12 GB of ram, Nvidia 1650 GTX and let me tell you! this Asus is TUF!!! although my Lenovo is no slouch, the Asus is really a rocket ship compared to my 3 years old high end gaming laptop. the Intel Alder lake 12th Gen processor is fast, and doesnt eat up power like the older gen. the DDR5 ram that is in the Asus is faster and more seamless. I do notice the difference in load times for various applications. and the Nvidia 3070 is great with all the games I have played so far. screen brightness, blacks, and quality: the screen is bright and nice and its vibrant for what it is. Cooling: the laptop stays cool while using it for normal tasks like browsing the internet and working on productivity apps. when gaming it does switch to the Nvidia GPU and the fans get to work, but if you are a gamer, you barely notice the noise. Game play: I did play 3 games on this laptop since I have received it and I have spent about 3 hours total playing. the games are Mortal Kombat 11, Need for Speed HEAT, and DOOM. all 3 games were played with graphics maxed out. I have experienced NO lag, shuttering or delays. all games where pretty smooth and looked AMAZING. this is a well rounded laptop that is rugged and professional enough to be moved around and taken to work, and freaky and powerful enough to play the best games out there. things I loved: all the above. things I hated: none. things I think are missing: fingerprint security scanner. will I modify this laptop? I will be replacing the hard drive with an NVME with at least 1 TB since after downloading a few apps and 3 games, I am down to 10% storage space which will cause throttling. thats all that I would be replacing for now and maybe will replace the RAM in the future with a 32GB instead of the 16GB that are on right now. its nice but not needed. Piece of advice: If you are playing on this laptop using HDMI and external screen, DO NOT close the laptop lid. while in game play the cpu heat reach 96 and the laptop was extremely hot when the screen was closed. I did open the screen and the temperature went down about 5 degrees but more importantly, the screen didn't get any heat from the chassis. in game play the whole laptop gets noticeably hot but acceptable. the temperature hovered between 85 and 96 in game play and was always between 59 to 72 in normal usage. also: I would customize and use Asus armory crate since it has really some good features and modes to use for when you are playing vs when working. its a good software. I really really love this laptop and am sure it will be my daily driver for the next 3 to 4 years.

Strong in Quality and Performance!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First ASUS gaming laptop for me, and my first impressions the first couple of weeks are overall positive. I own a Gaming Desktop with a 2080, but honestly I always want something portable for personal or work related trips where I can unwind in the hotel room and get some gaming in. This gaming laptop is going to be that for me! I will say that it is worthy for being your go-to computer for all, but with my desktop I can run games at higher setting and get higher frames so this will not be replacing my desktop. Now for the breakdown of the features and built: Design - 5/5 I am a big fan of laptops that feel tough or tuf as the name says and this stays true to its name. The laptop feels super sturdy, durable, and it has an aluminum body cover. Careful though because it’s prone to easy scratches. Nevertheless, I give this a 5/5! Keyboard - 4/5 The keyboard and touchpad feel good to the touch. I tried playing a multiplayer shooter with keyboard and mouse and found it to be harder than it is on my Alienware. I think most people who use this as their rig at home might benefit for an additional keyboard if you are not a controller player. Ports -5/5 Plenty of ports to do everything I need to do! Battery – 4/5 I was thinking the charging brick was not going to be as huge, but it’s definitely bigger than some competitors working on USB-C charging gaming laptops. This is not a USB-C charging computer. This impacts the portability for me, but not a deal breaker. Performance – 4/5 Like I said, this is not going to compete with a desktop gaming computer, and so once we agree on that, the performance of this computer is great. I tested the following games and got the following frames. The computer didn’t get hot nor loud. I was using the keyboard during Warzone and didn’t really feel like it was hot. That said, it can’t handle Warzone for me to comfortably play competitively, but other games that require less power it did excellent! Warzone on medium/high settings - 50-60fps (too low for my liking) F1 2021 on high settings – 120fps Elder Ring high settings – 60fps (max allowed) FIFA 2022 high settings – 60fps (max allowed) Overall, I think at the price point and for multi-use as a gaming and working laptop this is a great computer. 4/5 for me!

silent during office work, fun during gaming!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The review of this laptop is all stock and software set to ASUS default settings. From the initial powering on the device took just under 12 minutes to become fully useable. Windows 11 updated during boot up. ASUS claims the screen is 250 nit but it is brighter than my acer nitro 5 260 nit screen. Not as bright as my alienware m17 though. The screen is colorful and the viewing angles are good. No PWM flicker noted (used camera to verify). I currently have the brightness at 35% and it is perfect in a well lit room. The keyboard feels good. Nowhere close to my corsair mechanical though. It does have a number pad but it is very squished. I really like the smoothness of the touch pad. A little bit too wide in my opinion but I haven't accidently hit it. The 720P 30FPS camera is awful but at least we have one this year. It is grainy. It is a welcomed addition. The computer itself is well built. Very small bezel except for the bottom. 1 usb port on the right. On the left you get a headphone/mic combo jack, 1 usb, 2 usb-c (1 with thunderbolt 4), full sized hdmi, lan port, and a proprietary power jack (no usb c charger included). No ports in the back. During gameplay the keyboard from asd down was ice cold. Right around the power button all the way across it was warm but not burning hot. The thermals of the case not bad. Internally not that great. During Apex Legends the CPU was hitting 99C then throttling down. GPU was staying under 90C but at 99% usage during gameplay (photo attached). I was only able to hit 144FPS max. The CPU beat my 5600x in Geekbench 5 This Laptop Single Core (1749) Multi-Core (11114) 5600x Single Core (1617) Multi-Core (7780) Streamers, I was able to record and play with no apparent power hit. LIKES: -Very fast CPU -Screen color pops -Trackpad area ice cold -Looks like a grown-up gaming laptop I can take to office -MUX Switch -Armoury Crate software actually good -iGPU to dGPU is smart (get a popup when dgpu is in performance mode) -wifi is fast (over 450Mbps up and down) -love the color (not a fingerprint magnet) -super quite during normal use Improvements: -dGPU only hits 80W (think it is a power setting I can change but out the box that is all you get and most people won't know how to switch it) -a lot of tracking and signing up the installed software wants -can we get a usb c on right side too? -no privacy switch for camera -hinge is not that great (get some flex on screen, no 1 hand open) -the intel ssd is only gen 3 (going to swap it out with gen 4) -corners of bottom base do dig into my left wrist during typing (pretty sharp corners) -wifi did drop for no reason a couple of times Note, this review was done with no updates. Only what updated during windows at startup. Everything stock.

As Fast as a JET!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best laptop I ever used hands down. ASUS has put some great thought into this device, and it truly shows not only its quality but also in the pc's performance. Screen: I love the screen. I was worried when I saw it was only 1920x1080 rather than 4k; however, the display offers 144hz and a IPS level display. I am not sure if being considered "IPS level" is the same as an IPS screen but I truly like the output it provides. Brightness is only rated at 250 nits however its ample. The screen is also matte and good for keeping those reflections out. While in direct sun I noticed some reflection but it wasn't very noticeable. Graphics Card: Equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (Laptop - 8GB) in my opinion a masterpiece when paired with this laptop. The card sports 5,120 CUDA cores, 8 GB (GDDR6) of ram, and clock speeds up to 1,620 MHZ. This graphics card is capable to tackle anything you typically would throw at it. Playing COD and FORZA were awesome on this device. I have everything set to high performance and everything played successful. The F15 is also equipped with a MUX switch and it is the first device I ever used with one equipped. A MUX switch is pretty to cool to have in a gaming laptop as it will switch from your integrated and dedicated graphic processors. This will help in battery life as for simple tasks it will use your integrated graphics card rather than the Nvidia. While playing games or other graphics intensive programs/media the MUX switch will directly use your dedicated graphics card (NVIDIA). Processor: The F15 is equipped with a 12th gen Intel i7-12650H. 10 cores (6 performance / 4 efficient). This is considered to be a high-end chip. Due to having performance and efficient chips it has two ranges of speed. Performance ranges from 2.3-4.7GHz and efficient ranges from 1.7-3.5GHz Ram: Equipped with 16GBs of DDR5 4800Mhz of ram which can be expanded to 32GBs. Keyboard: I enjoy using this keyboard. It feels great and I like having the number pad. The backlit keyboard is bright and in white. ASUS provided a dedicated button for their Armoury Crate software. This will take you directly to the program with a full screen of information about your F15. There is too much info to list what this program will show about your laptop, so I attached a picture. The Armoury Crate program is also the hub for your laptop to control and customize everything you can think about for F15! There are also three extras on the function keys including adjusting your fan speed, cut and paste, and one saying "AURA" which allows you to change your keyboard lights from static, strobe, and breathe. Track pad: The track pad is pretty good. It's well made and has no gimmicks. I would use a mouse or controller for gaming but that's what I always do as a personal preference. Battery life/charging: The battery life is great for a gaming laptop. So far with productivity and simple programs I probably got about 2.5-3 hours worth of life. I have had better with productivity styled laptops but this is a beast so its fine by me. Gaming I am sure it will be a lot less maybe an hour if best on heavy graphics type games. I usually keep my PCs plugged in when I gaming. It comes with a big boy charger 200 watts perfect for keeping the F15 charged and supplying power for when you need it. Ports: Well-equipped including HDMI out, ethernet, two USB type-C ports with 100W fast charging, two USB As, a headphone jack, and a Kensington lock. Webcam/Microphones/Speakers/Wifi: The built-in webcam is 720p which is great that its equipped but should be 1080p. Two microphones are side by side of the webcam with built-in two-way AI Noise Cancelation. Equipped with support for Hi-Res and Dolby ATOMS which is great for own headphones or headsets. The built-in speakers are actually on the bottom of the laptop... not on the sides, not below the palm rest on the side trim but directly pointing down on to the surface for which your laptop is sitting. Weird and not where I would think speakers should be placed. They sound okay in my opinion. Yet most people who will be gaming with this laptop are using headsets or some type of headphones. WIFI 6 is equipped and I have had great Wi-Fi speeds. Body: Wrapped in military grade aluminum where it counts and plastic. Bottom of the laptop looks really cool!

Amazing, doesn't skip a beat.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use this for everything! This is an amazing laptop, I use this for travel, gaming, lab stuff for IT. This machine doesn't skip a beat, I've never had an issue, it's very stable for anything I throw at it. When RE4 remake first came out I was overseas, I played straight for about 8+ hours per day and the machine never overheated or skipped a beat. The laptop itself does get hot and the fans sound like a jet when it kicks in but it also means it's working. I bought a laptop cooler for longevity. The keyboard gets warm when the laptop is running hot but it's not a big deal or anything. I've upgraded the ram and got an extra SSD and I don't look back. I've had this machine for the last 3 years and average laptops last for about 5 years and I can definitely see this machine lasting 5-6 years easy. The only issue with laptops is the hardware becomes obsolete even if it still works perfectly. I've heard other asus laptops like the Zeph ones throttle the performance but I don't feel that's the case here for the TUF series. The only issue I'd warn people about which isn't even a big deal is be mindful of where you keep your charger. For example, I was on the couch and the charger fell inbetween the couch and the charger got so hot it stopped charging the laptop. Overall, I love this laptop and firm believer in the ASUS TUF series.

Quiet, Slim Gaming Laptop with Great Performance
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was my first hands on with Windows 11 but setup was fairly straightforward like other versions of Windows. The laptop does ask for some info to help setup warranty and ASUS related software info but overall shouldn’t take longer than 30 minutes even taking your time through all the steps. Screen: The screen is plenty bright for most environments. The anti-glare finish is great and viewing angles are good all around. The color temp of the display out of the box looks very accurate compared to my other laptop display which favors the cooler side of things. Color temp on the ASUS can be adjusted via the ASUS software if you want but overall the display provides a good picture with high refresh rate. The boarders are slim on all but the bottom side. Build Quality: I really enjoy the look and feel of this laptop. It doesn’t scream “Gamer Laptop” like some others have. The satin finish hides fingerprints well considering the close to black color. The hinge feels good (although could be better) and the overall thickness is kept on the slimmer side for gaming laptops. The keyboard feels about on par with laptops these days. Key travel is good but it won’t compare to the mechanical gaming keyboards. I like the dedicated keypad on the right although it does feel cramped. Nice to have nonetheless. The trackpad is buttery smooth. There is no resistance to moving around on it. It is wider than most I have experiences which may have some inherent benefits I am not aware of but it feels great nonetheless. This laptop does include a webcam but the 720P 30FPS resolution is awful. I guess I am glad it is there but I would like to see a 1080p camera with better resolution at a minimum. Ports: Right Side - 1 USB (Directly in middle of laptop) Left Side (In order from closest to farthest) - 1 Headphone Jack - 1 USB - 2 USB-C (One Thunderbolt 4) - 1 HDMI 2.0 - 1 Ethernet - 1 Power Input Gaming: The overall performance of this laptop with the 12th Gen i7 and DDR5 paired with the RTX 3070 makes this a solid performer for most gaming applications. I typically do gaming via Xbox downloads and neither of the games I tested (Halo Masters Collection and Forza Horizon 5) really maxed out the CPU/GPU combo. Temps stayed within reason and I noticed no real performance hits with gaming for several hours. The 144hz display made everything buttery smooth and like mentioned earlier the colors and really good. Of course this laptop only support 1080p without an external display so this likely eases the load on the laptop. With the laptop sitting on a wood table, the top part of the keyboard got warm to the touch along with all the other areas (Sides and back with venting). I installed a second SSD Gen 3 1TB drive I had laying around and the computer picked up on it within the BIOS without issues. After going through the Disk Manager to initialize the drive, it works perfectly. Likes: - 12th Gen i7 CPU - Screen - Trackpad Feel - Case design/color - DDR5 Memory (2 Slots Internally) - Armoury Crate Software. Easy to understand. - Integrated GPU to Dedicated GPU switchover - Wi-Fi 6 (Although would have liked to have seen Wi-Fi 6E capability) - Fans quiet during average use - Dedicated hotkeys are volume/mic/ASUS Armoury Dislikes: - Lacking SD Card Reader - Internal SSD Gen 3 (Not 4) - HDMI 2.0b (Would like to see 2.1) - No way to enable FN lock for function keys Overall, I have really enjoyed using the updated ASUS TUF F15 for gaming and browsing the web. I can’t wait to test out video editing once I have some footage to edit but based on what I have experience so far, I bet it will handle it with ease. I would highly recommend checking out the updated F15 if you are in need of a new mid-upper range gaming laptop with great performance and a sleek design. It is just a few small tweaks away from being a near perfect laptop.

Better then my MSI but runs just as hot
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have two awesome laptops that are geared for gaming this Asus TUF Dash F15 and my MSI GS66. They both are amazing gaming laptops but the ASUS is much faster better and quieter according to my benchmarks. There is a sizable difference between a 2070 and a 3070 GPU. Quality of the ASUS is surprisingly awesome. I love the bottom which has like a graphite feel and is easy to open (which I might to add my own thermal paste one day). The ASUS is so quiet and FINALLY the battery doesn’t suck like my MSI which has to always be plugged in it seems. Kudos to ASUS! When I purchased my MSI I thought I got the best laptop to play the new game (which flopped) called new world mmo but maybe I should have opted for an ASUS instead. Both are great but the processor gpu and memory all give my new ASUS the advantage and I’m happy gamer. Don’t get scared of the temps as the cpu will run hot even in the performance setting which has the fans higher. Guess what, they are gaming laptops and they all seem to run hot as far as my experience goes. Even when I added the best thermal compound to my MSI it still ran so hot (over 95 Celsius on some cores while playing) and this ASUS is just as high. They are designed to handle the heat and the GPU do much better temp wise for both laptops. I am done worrying about temps and just gonna play some games and have fun. Asus is recommended! Light, silent, well made!

Great for PhD
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great computer for Ph.D., you can even install additional SSD space if needed. I am pretty sure this can handle computational-intensive applications though since I also use it to run multiple software at once to process micro-CT data. Feels smooth and can have many tabs open at once. You can turn on and off the device quickly. The battery life extends by changing the screen refresh rate. The keyboard is smooth to use and has a nice backlight that can be toggled on and off. I appreciate the number keys on the right side. The trackpad is sensitive enough and can be adjusted as necessary. The ports are great. I am thankful for 2 USB 3.0 and 2 USB-C, ethernet, and HDMI. Some might not like that most of the ports are on one side and not the back, I have not had any issues thus far. The web cam is decent, but the computer is above solid for the price. I got this on sale so I would recommend waiting for one. I think it goes down to around $1000. Which is a steal for this device. Although the graphics card is soldered in so that may be a downside for some. Overall much better processing than my Lenovo Yoga 9 and Dell Inspiron. Although the screen is not as nice, it is a small price to pay when you can get a really nice monitor to attach to your computer.

Very Good Gaming Laptop from ASUS!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used the laptop for over 10 weeks and it's been working great! The i7 core 12th gen processor is very powerful and fast, but I have not played a game on it yet. I am sure this RTX 3070 graphics card will outperform my previous gaming laptops bought from Best Buy with older and weaker RTX 3050 Ti and 1050 Ti graphics cards. The complete boot time is less than 10 seconds and you can use the empty slot to add another 1 TB NVME M2 SSD to this laptop to expand storage from original 512 GB SSD. The only downside on this laptop is Windows 11 OS as that's like flawed Windows 8 and Vista systems in the past. It has common useful features on the drop down menu hidden each time you right click any icon on your computer window. The task bar cannot display multiple browsers opening at the same time but stack them up. Overall, this gaming laptop is great and does the job as it's designed to do. It had roughly $500 discount during Thanksgiving week 2022 on Best Buy only, but the price now is back to retail value of $1500. I think it's worth $1250 or so before larger SSD expansion, but it's definitely worth the price I paid for at $999 before tax on Best Buy!

It's ready to compete with the big boys.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow! from the moment I unboxed this laptop I immediately understood why it is so popular. For a gaming laptop, the ASUS TUF Dash doesn't look like a gaming laptop. It is very subtle, thin and feels ultra-durable. It has an aluminum top and a hard polymer body. The only thing that feels plastic is the keys--- and I am completely okay with that. Now to talk about the specs. ASUS went all out on what would normally be a mid-grade gaming rig. The version I received came with Windows 11 Home, the new 10 Core/16 thread 12th generation I7- 12650H processor, 16 GB of DDR 5 ram (not soldered so it's totally upgradable) , an RTX 3070 graphics card, Mux switch and thunderbolt 4. What more can you ask for? with specs like that the TUF Dash creeps into premium gaming territory. Actually, these specs make it better than a lot of the premium gaming laptops from last year. However, ASUS had to cut corners somewhere. For this laptop, it's the small 512GB Intel NVME QLC SSD, 720P webcam, and two weak down firing speakers. Fortunately, I think they cut corners in the right places. Because I normally play games with headphones, the webcam is good enough, and they did provide an extra NVME slot for memory expansion. As for performance, this thing is a beast. It performed fantastic on benchmarks and because of the mux switch and the inclusion of DDR5 ram, I was able to get the full performance out of the processor and graphics card with no bottle necks. Every game I played looked amazing and was playable on ultra-settings. The only time I noticed any stuttering was when I was gaming on battery alone. Overall, if you are looking at the TUF Dash for your next gaming laptop you will not be disappointed. In my opinion, the TUF Dash is no longer a mid-tier gaming laptop. It's ready to compete with the big boys.
