Good laptop but keyboard is annoying

The computer performs really well. It is fast, light for its size, and responsive. There are two things, however, that I find lackluster: 1. The keyboard is almost impossible to read the keys because the letters are almost the same color as the keys themselves 2. The camera seems underwhelming in terms of resolution, the image looks pixelated. While these two things can be bypassed by plugging in a better keyboard and camera, it shouldn't happen in the first place. I would recommend it to someone who already has accessories in use

I got this laptop for my business, I got it as a "returned item". was nervous about it, my question to the Sales man was "what was the reason for return?" "they couldn't read the keys...." so ya the key color and the keys are the same, but if you know how to type oooooor have a wireless keyboard and mouse it's not a bug issue. performance wise, this laptop is great, fast out of the box, had it a couple weeks now, and its doin great. the screen is a great size, and has an awesome image.

I was hesitant on making this purchase due to the reviews I had read. Most of them dealt with the color of the letters on the keyboard. Since I use a wireless keyboard, not a worry. I have found that his system is great for both work and school and can handle just about anything I want to do, even minor gaming. I really have no complaints, it's fast, efficient and does all that I need it to do. I am glad I waited till it went on sale, saved me some extra cash.

Overall happy with the purchase. Some downsides: 1. As mentioned by others the keyboard nomenclature can be difficult to read. I solved this by putting a small LED lamp behind the screen and shining it down on the keyboard. The letters on the keys now jump right out at you. 2. Slow internet. The built-in network adapter is only a single channel. No 5 GHz channel. On a 200+ cable connection, I was only getting around a speed of 30 to 40. I purchased a dual-channel USB network adapter for under $20. Now getting over 200! 3. Being a larger laptop it has lots of USB ports, etc. However, it does not have an RJ-45 port so your only access to the internet is through wifi without buying an adapter.

This computer replaced one I had for 8 years. It is fast, screen size is good. The down side is the keys. I like the size and feel of them. The letters on them are difficult to see in many lightings. I am glad I don't need to look at them to type. I also would like a bigger space between the number pad and the other keys. the delete and home buttons are small and not convenient. I used a black marker to make them more visible. Obviously, these are things I didn't think to check when I was purchasing the computer. Maybe I would have bought it anyway. I like the size and feel of the keys; both important to me.

We purchased this laptop based on solid reviews and price. Extremely fast when downloading information including photos from the internet. I love the speed. As is seen in several reviews, the keys are not backlit, and in low light environments, it can be frustrating and cumbersome particularly with the offset keyboard. Overall, I would recommend the laptop, particularly the screen size and Ryzen 7 processor. Great buy at $599.99

I decided against HP & Intel, and went with Asus & AMD, and I'm glad I did so far. This laptop has a large screen and it's large enough to have the number pad on the right side of the keyboard. I don't know why others are saying it's not a gaming laptop. With 12 GB of ram and a Ryzen 7 with a graphics chip and 4 GB onboard I haven't really seen any performance issues. I'm currently giving only 4 stars because at the moment, although I was told I could do more than 1 extra monitor the USB 3.0 is not handling the display port Alt mode. I cannot, with any cable or monitor configuration, get the second external display to be recognized. Other than that I'm happy.

At this price point and the features this laptop offers, how can you go wrong? Features and screen size with a crisp, clear image fits my needs exactly. A bump up in memory (12gb) from your common machine at this price makes a huge difference in performance. Overall very happy, my only dislike is the keyboard where the keys can be difficult to see (silver buttons with gray characters). Feel like this was a miss on the design side. A backlit keyboard or higher contrast color scheme for keys would have sealed a perfect score.

So far I love this laptop. The specs alone were enough to make me giddy and after receiving it yesterday and piddling around on it for the first time I can say this was a great buy. At $200 off there’s really nothing to complain about (so far). The keyboard is not hard to see. I wear glasses and typed just fine on it yesterday in my office with the lights off. It’s very sleek and easy to maneuver. The screen blew me away. I know I ordered a 17.3” laptop, but when it came in and I actually used it I was so glad I purchased one so big. I’m going back to college soon and I needed something that could handle the workload of my schoolwork. I do believe that this baby will handle all that and then some. I looked at hundreds of laptops trying to find one with good enough specs for the right price and when this one popped up I clicked buy almost immediately. It’s really fast too. I don’t have much on it yet but at 12gb memory and 512gb ssd I’m sure once I get going it’ll still be just as fast as it is today. If you’re looking for a good laptop for a great price this is the one. I got the open box certified and saved a few more bucks that way but she was pristine out of the box.

I bought this for myself for Xmas bc my desktop wasn’t working anymore. So far it’s working great. The screen is big. The only thing I’m not crazy about are the numbers and letters on the keyboard. They are hard to see bc they’re printed light on the gray/ silver keys. Otherwise it was easy to set up and use. Great price.

Very good laptop and very light at 5.07 lbs. which is slim and light for a 17.3" laptop. I had a Lenovo Gaming Laptop 3 years ago and it weighed 10 lbs., but had all the bells and whistles. ASUS and DELL laptops are rated 1 and 2 overall. See ratings below. I also own a DELL which I bought from Best Buy a little over a year ago-great Gaming Laptop. I would have liked to have backlit keys on the ASUS. Does not cost much to have that. And the price I paid for the ASUS was great. Some reviews on Laptops: https://www.laptopmag.com/features/laptop-brand-ratings The next time I buy a Gaming Laptop I will be looking for 1TB SSD and 16GB on the Memory. Must be 17.3"

I've had this for awhile now (it's probably considered outdated at this point). Sturdy and reliable. My only issue is the keyboard...the gray letters on silver keys look fabulous under store lighting, but are invisible in low light.

Overall the ASUS - Vivobook 17.3" Laptop - AMD Ryzen 7 - 12GB , does what I wanted it for; internet machine, run/input code, and move simple files from machine to machine. I have a more powerful machine for videos, editing, and moving "big" files. Being a laptop it fulfills the "portability" that I need. I am slightly disappointed about the lack of IPS for the display (110 degree); I do use a dual screen though. Retail $800 minus holiday discount $200, still no "IPS display". Glad it is 17.3 inch. Great speed, solid build, LED display = low power use. Still a good purchase; its what I needed.

Purchased for my daughter for her birthday. The best thing is the price. It's a great above average laptop. Things sacrificed are keys don't light up and the battery is probably just average. And the screen isn't a touch screen. If those things are not most important to you, the price and performance are more then worth the purchase.

The laptop is very good for the price, decent speed and sounds good. Only thing is the matte screen makes it kind of hard to see at certain angles even with full brightness. Also the keyboard is not backlit and the symbols are a very similar color to the computer color so if you are in a darker space, I suggest using a lamp as well. Overall very good budget laptop but you are paying less for features like better screens and backlit keyboards.

We’ll worth the cost. I have not had any issues and this is waaaaayyyy better than the boat anchor I have been using. The large size is great for video and the quality is very good. This is not meant for gamers. The one complaint that I noticed before purchase was the color of the letters/numbers on the silver keys makes them hard to see, and the keys are in different places from my previous machine. Minor complaint but it is an issue.

The person who designed this keyboard needs to be fired. Who in the heck thought of silver letters on silver keys is a complete idiot. I had to buy a USB light so I can see what I'm typing since it's a new keyboard. The bios is about as useless as they come. You can change very little you can't really enable or disable anything and adding a new boot device is much more complicated than necessary. I really don't understand why there are USB 2,0 ports connected to a USB 3.1 bus. WHy are there 2,0 connects at all? There;s another you'll have to buy is a powered USB 3,0 hub, I needed to use my USB to Ethernet adapter which was running hot from direct connection, I used this device for about a week before I decided to keep it since my old HP was starting to fail. The one good thing is the surprisingly good performance of the Kingston SSD. It's not a bad computer for the price but there's these inexplicable design and hardware features that don't make any sense. If you're not a hardware person you'll do fine. If you are you'll be scratching your head. To those who think you can't upgrade the RAM you're wrong. You can. Look it up. There's also space for another drive but no way to connect it....It will cost you more but it about adequate for the average user,
