Customers are impressed with the Vivobook's price, ease of use, ample RAM and storage, and lightweight design. However, many users cite concerns regarding the keyboard quality, particularly the key color and lack of backlighting, and report shorter than expected battery life. Slow boot times were also a common complaint. The large size of the laptop was mentioned as a drawback by some users.

Really n ice picture, big screen, but takes FOREVER to even open or load anything from Day 1. I bought in 2023 and it is Sept 2025. It's still working...just so slowly that it hurts my feelings and provokes many dirty words from flying out of my mouth.

17 inch screen, the Sonic Master sound system, 1 Terabytes of memory, 12gigabytes of RAM, Intel core i5 and ASUS. This laptop like a theater on the go, its massive. Im a big tall dude so those little laptops got my fingers pressing two keys at once. But this one has plenty space. Like a full size keyboard. THANKS BEST BUY FOR AWESOME DEAL. ALWAYS CHECK IN WITH THESE GUYS BEFORE ANYWHERE ELSE.

This device had a standard HDD which was very slow. My frustrations were completely relieved once i replaced with a SATA SSD. In doing so i realized it also had an nvme slot as well. RAM is adequate to start and upgradable. Biggest limitations with this would be graphics and battery. A value pc.

Fine computer but set up of windows 11 was PAINFUL

First and foremost, the computer works fine and looks fine. However... getting this thing setup properly took in the realm of a week and a half. I did no less than 33 updates to get this computer set up to be even remotely fast. Let alone doing ALL the optional updates, to get it working better than my Lenovo that has 8GB of RAM. There were so many times I was forced to just restart my computer in hopes there would be an update that was needed to occur that the computer didn't tell me about.
I came real close to returning it on several occasions.
I don't blame the computer but windows for this issue. I tried to set it up to have windows 11 from the get go, and let me tell you. Windows S-Mode is complete nonsense. They want you to not download any other web browsers but microsoft edge is complete crap and ridiculously slow in S-Mode.
I couldn't even update to windows 11 until I disabled S-Mode, so it's essentially worthless. Let alone the fact that the computer just CRAWLED during setup while it was enabled. If you buy any computer with Windows in S-Mode, DISABLE IT IMMEDIATELY OR YOU WILL HATE LIFE.
It should NOT take over a WEEK to set up a computer properly. I'm in, I.T and was still at my wits end with this. Windows 11 needs to get its act together.
Also this computer only runs its processors at base speeds of 1.00 Ghz when it has an up to 3.00 Ghz speed, that I still haven't figured out how to make it use its full capacity. My lenovo Idea Pad 330 runs at 2.67 Ghz.
Honestly, this may be the last windows based OS computer I buy because of this. DON'T MAKE ME GO TO APPLE, MICROSOFT. I DON'T WANT TO.

I was unsure on the ASUS name for a work/study Laptop. I have been very pleased with the speed and reliability of the computer. I do a ton of word processing for my master's classes as well as video and ZOOM meetings. The laptop has worked like a champ. Would definitely recommend this item for students and business pros alike. I would give 5 stars but the battery life, I drain it pretty quickly off charger, but it is also how I have the unit set up, I'm sure. Display is wonderful, graphics very clear.

Good value for the price; however, the laptop is slow. the display has slightly too much white light and the keyboard is difficult to read due to the lack of color contrast between the key color and symbol color - or lack thereof. The stock 1 TB hard drive is slower than expected, but probably fine for most users. The RAM is good in regard to it being 12 GB but you'll need all of that just to run windows and a few basic apps. The network card seems to be normal in its performance without any obvious problems but I did not spend enough time on this area to make a true evaluation.
I cleaned up Windows by removing some of the preinstalled apps and changing some settings that are more of a resource hog rather than a true feature enhancement - fade in, fade out, etc., in settings located in the control panel. I also updated to the latest Windows 10 packs that I thought were ok - you should know if you're not into tinkering, that not all updates from the mothership are actually beneficial - Google that for more insight. I installed a new solid state drive to speed things up. Now the laptop performs. I also shopped RAM and searched for the best "timed" RAM for this motherboard and settled on Corsair that was the same spec as the replaced mod. Even though the spec didn't change, and even though the onboard memory wasn't changed, there is a noticeable improvement in performance measured with benchmarking software. Each PC/Laptop will have different results as techies will know even when the components are the same brand, model and version. So a side by side comparison will not be a good way to choose upgrades if your looking for optimal performance improvements. Be sure to research you individual components using the proper utilities (BIOS updates) to inspect your motherboard's settings and how is actually operating rather than what it is touted to be. Lastly, when it comes down to choosing Intel or AMD, do some research. I chose AMD because of the overhead factor. Each brand has its superpowers, but essentially I offer the following analogy: you can drop an apple from head height and it falls to the ground or you can drop the same apple from the same height with obstacles, or overhead, in its way. Overhead is what it takes to run the chip and AMD has less overhead. AND its less expensive.

A very good laptop once you pop in a SSD and make it the main drive. Only bad thing is the keyboard colors, silver and gray can be hard to read at times. Person who thought of this should be fired and their boss for not knowing better.
Is a great value at just over $250 with coupon discount.

I take the word "laptop" literally. I use it on my lap. I'm typically in a recliner, and it's in between or on top of my thighs. This computer took a little getting used to. For some reason, the front corners of the base are sharp and it was the first thing that annoyed me about it. I had to adjust my position on the recliner to compensate. The charger has a right angle plug and that helps a lot.
I find the hardware to work well together and be a good value. A 256 SSD would have been more attractive to me than the 1TB HDD. I was a little leery about going back to a mechanical hard drive, but I've adapted. I only boot it once a day while I'm having my coffee. I'm as brain dead as the computer is for those first 5 minutes so it works out fine. But once Windows & Co. has fully loaded in the background, it's sufficiently fast. Most of what I do is on the internet and I'm pretty happy with page loading times. The rest of the day I just sleep it when I'm not using it, and it springs back to life almost instantly.
I love the action of the keyboard. It's like silk. However, the keyboard is very difficult to read. It's not backlit and there is not enough contrast between the silver color of the keys and the grey color of the letters, numbers, and symbols. Additionally the "shift" activated symbols are small and even harder to read. So it has been a nightmare learning this keyboard. I'm constantly using the display like a flashlight to find and re-find where some of the less commonly used ones are. Home, end, page up & down are in such a weird spot that I will never use them. I know silver is the "trending" color right now, but without backlighting, these keys suck if used in anything less than laboratory conditions.
Mouse pad has been flawless.
The resolution of the screen is good but not great. I only notice it if I have my other laptop next to it. The brightness, color, contrast are all very pleasing. I never use it outdoors.
I/O is more than adequate. No complaints there.
I'm probably not going to mod this ride until the warranty runs out. There are no removeable panels on the bottom. The whole bottom must be removed to access the mobo. I'm dying of curiosity to see if there is an M.2 slot and whether the memory can be upgraded. Ideally I want to add a small SSD and just use the HDD for storage and kick the RAM up to 16GB. It seems like retailers and manufacturers want to make the necessary info impossible to get. I assume it's because stupid people don't understand the difference between the amount of RAM a machine has and the maximum it can handle. So the marketing morons and other corporate stooges suppress that info to prevent confusion amongst the easily confused. Frankly I'm tired of living in a world where we have to set the bar as low as possible for these mental midgets.

slow, heavy, washed-out screen. I should have known better than to consider an HDD drive over a solid state. All the other specs looked good and I was hoping the 12GB of memory would help, only helps having multiple apps loaded, but the slow hard drive takes forever to load them up into memory. Also the screen is faded like worse than laptops made 15 years ago with LCD screens. I recommend anything over this laptop. Sound quality was bad too.

Dear Valued Customer,
It's unfortunate to hear about your experience with the hard drive, screen, and sound. This is not the kind of experience we want any of our customers to have. Is the HDD running 100% at all times? Please ensure to keep your Windows OS up to date and scan for any known malware with Windows Defender. For the screen, have you tried to calibrate the screen within settings? Please ensure to keep your sound driver up to date as well. Please refer to the FAQ below for further information, Any concerns, feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] and provide this link for reference. I’ve had this computer for over a year now. All around it’s a really good computer especially for a work from home job. My only complaints will be the battery life is about 2 hours and that if it has an update sometimes it will do it automatically even after you push it out. However those are the only issues! I would buy again

I’ve only had this for three weeks. What drew me to this amazing buy was: the specs. I couldn’t resist. 12GB, i5, 1TB for under $500. I bought two.
The keyboard is not backlit so in less than optimal lighting, you need an alternate light source. The keys are also flimsy. How do I know this? An 8 month old infant was able to pop one off. I pushed it back in and I’ve had no problems with it- yet.
The battery life is also rather questionable. On a full charge with the lowest lighting, I can’t say I’ve gotten a good hour.
Finally, and the most heartbreaking, the computer lags. I’m not even doing any heavy work. I just have maybe four tabs open, a word document, and the file explorer.
At this point I’m only holding on because I don’t believe I’ll find anything better.
I can overlook the fact that it’s a 17 inch laptop, or that the keyboard isn’t backlit, but what can I do with a barely three week old laptop that lags? Grin and bear it? Or admit defeat and start over.
It’s like a bad relationship that I’m trying desperately to revive. I can’t leave because I’ll have to admit it’s bad.
I was hoping for a powerful machine, but I realize now that I may have been deceived.

Saw this laptop on sale for 50% off and was impressed by the memory/screen size for the price, but was also leery after reading many of the reviews. I figured I had 15 days to return it if it was that bad, so I went ahead and ordered one. The laptop was delivered the next day at no additional cost. During the initial setup and seemingly endless updates to download/install, it was rather unimpressive and slow. But once everything was up to date and out of S Mode, it's been great. Don't let the negative reviews scare you away. The screen resolution and battery life could be better. A backlit keyboard would also be nice, but for under $400 I am very happy with it.

I like the weight, and it doesn't get too warm when it is on my lap. The screen works great and I can adjust it to fit my sight based on the time of day. The speed has been great for me, little delay when I want to game or just produce documents. I like how easy it is to make adjustments as I get to use my laptop more and more.
