This laptop meets and exceeds my requirements!

I needed a smaller, lighter weight laptop with great battery life. With the SSD this laptop boots up fast. The camera, screen resolution and wifi speed meet my needs for distance learning. The keyboard can be hard to see under some light conditions, but I don't plan on writing a thesis on this laptop. Those are my requirements and this laptop meets and exceed them, especially when I got the laptop on sale.
This laptop does not include an ethernet port or an optical drive. When I need the speed of the ethernet connection and an optical drive, I use my desktop.

This lap top was exactly what I was looking for! I am so impressed with its speed and the screen quality is great. It’s not bulky or heavy but rather light and slender. The battery life is great. It was super easy to set up, which is good since I’m not techie.

I am really loving this laptop. It is compact and gets the job done. It boots up fast and runs smoothly. Others complained about the lighting on the keyboard and it is pretty bad. The keyboard letters are much easier to see with that backlight turned off. I also have gotten a weird issue twice where the fan is running really loudly. It only stops when I shut the computer down and start it back up. It hasn't caused a problem yet, but is still a bit frustrating. Aside from those minor issues, this is a great laptop.

I have recently bought this during the Fourth of July Holiday weekend sales event for $550, I must say this is Honestly a bang for your buck laptop, so good in fact that it can pair up if not beat the Mac-book pro 13" in specs. However it's not without problems.
Cons:
- Fans, the fans sometimes can throttle high out of no where and I have the latest drivers installed, it took me to install a third party fan controller, shut down the laptop completely and boot it up again and now it's quite. This is something Asus should take note of and find a solution for.
- The Camera, Despite having Windows Hello the Camera Quality is pretty low but the mic is solid, really wish it had a better camera to be honest.
- No USB-C thunderbolt, while this does have a USB Type C port it's not thunderbolt, It's 3.2 gen2, would have been extremely nice to have though.
- No ram upgrades, the ram is soldered on the motherboard this device, so no upgrable ram.
Pros:
- The Processor, Wow this processor is extremely good, I hope more multi core cpu that is above 4 cores can get more attention cause it is really good for content creators.
- A dedicated graphic card, The GPU is the MX350 25w version from NVIDIA and you can do some light 1080p gaming with this (Note this is probably why the fans accelerated so high) and can add more power to graphics and work stuff as well.
- The screen, The screen is absolutely great, other laptops within this price range has a worse screen for color accuracy also having seem-less bezels makes it a good looking laptop.
-keyboard, this may be personal preference, but I really like this keyboard it's responsive and it gets the job well done.
- Windows Hello, Just Windows Hello alone makes this laptop worth it.
- Battery, I manage to get my laptop to 7 hours, and that's with web browsing, working and gaming on the go. So a getting passed the 7 hours mark is possible but it's quite possible to get the 10 hours of battery that Asus advertise. Heck compare to my old laptop this is a huge jump.
- Having WiFi 6, seriously, laptop that are more expensive than this needs to it setup cause some don't have WiFi 6.
- Upgrade-able SSD, this uses a Pcie 2280 ssd that can be upgrade-able.
Overall I think for the price I got for was an absolute steal, but for the original price this is going for, it seems right. though i can't quite recommend this.. Yet anyways since the fans can accelerate high, until Asus finds out about the problem, I can't really recommend it for now, but other than that, this is a great alternative for laptops that are $1000 and above.

I have had this a week and have merely installed Google Chrome and browsed a bit, but have already run into a few issues.
- As other reviewers have mentioned, recently I woke the laptop from sleep and the fan immediately turned on high and would not slow down, even after updating windows and restarting multiple times. Shutting down and turning on ended up (probably temporarily) fixing it.
- Wifi sometimes can't auto-connect to my network. I have this problem with one other windows laptop, but none of the dozen or so other mac/windows/android/apple/google devices around the house.
- Windows update has failed to install the latest feature update and the troubleshooter has no idea why.
Other things to note, which aren't issues exactly, but disappointments:
- Webcam is awful. Colors are totally wrong - blonde hair looks pinkish. Resolution/clarity looks like what you would expect from a laptop in 2005.
- Backspace, delete keys, and arrow keys are hard to find/hit as they are small and there is an additional column of keys immediately to the right of them, unlike in most other keyboards. The feel of typing on the keyboard is fine, I wouldn't call it high quality or low quality.
- Keyboard is very difficult to read, especially the F keys along the top. Backlight only makes the problem worse. Anytime you want to change the brightness or volume, you will have to squint at the keyboard for a few seconds. (I have good vision).
I bought this laptop to be able to handle dozens of browser tabs to do research on in hopes that it could be a good replacement for my small, old, and a bit slow Chromebook. However, so far it seems like yet another Windows laptop with iffy quality control and design choices, so I wouldn't recommend it if you want something that 'just works'.

Dear D3athcarb4fatty,
Surely, it is a great value product. Do understand your disappointment with the issues you are experiencing with the laptop and your concern about the quality of the product.
All ASUS products are in compliance to industry's quality standard and each one undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, and are built to last.
It is normal for the fan to spin at full-throttle when the laptop woke up from a sleep mode. If it continues, services or processes running in the background are utlilizing lots of system resources that triggers the thermal diode to send out signal to the fan to spin. Also, possibly, updates are not completely installed, a check on update may need to be performed inside Settings > Updates & Security, then click on "Check for updates". When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full-throttle and noise will be louder than normal. It does decreases or normalizes once utilization goes down.
About your concern on the WIFI connection issue, please verify if the laptop is within range to an established wireless router or access point and internet service is working properly. Also, please verify if the unit is running with the most current system update. You may also need to go in the Device Manager, Network adapters, click on the Wireless LAN then click on the Power Management tab, unchecked the boxes and click the "OK" button to save the changes.
If Windows Update failed to install successfully, please run Windows troubleshooter. Also, run a diagnostics or optimization test using the "My ASUS" utility software or application. If this is not pre-installed on the laptop, please download the application at the Microsoft Store. For details on how to use "My ASUS", please go to: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1041686/.
Should you need further assistance with the product, please email me at [email protected] and I would be more than happy to help.
Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

Will handle basic email/browsing with ease. Runs The Binding of Isaac (video game) without stutter. So far haven't run into any thermal problems, but I have encountered a known problem with the fans turning on full speed after waking up occasionally. Also be aware that the facial recognition is not IR, so it will not work in the dark. Keyboard backlight is also spotty as stated in other reviews, but it's not much of an issue.

This computer is easily worth the regular $700 price. At $500 it is an absolute steal. Great for multi-tasking. It's compact and sturdy. Not a gaming computer, obviously, and if you need to do serious video editing you won't be looking at this type of laptop anyway. So, for everything that it's intended for, this is a stellar computer.
Pros -
- Ryzen 5, dedicated graphics chip, and 8 gb RAM is a perfect combo that gives you all the computing headroom you need to do anything you could want with this type of computer
- Display is beautiful across different lighting scenarios
- High-end construction: Metal body, comfortable keyboard, large track pad, designed to allow airflow to stay cool
- No bloatware! Alexa if you want it. If you're privacy-minded simply uninstall it and carefully choose privacy settings when starting
- I can't stress enough what a high-end experience this computer provides. It seems like it should cost $1000
Cons -
- None
Note on keyboard: It's backlit. Use the backlighting features wisely and you shouldn't have any problems. People complaining about the keyboard may not be making the adjustments they need.
Note on Asus: I have to admit I'm a fan of the company. Over the last 7 years I've built 4 desktop PCs and used Asus motherboards on all and Asus graphics cards on the 2 of them that are not relying on APU processors. My wife has an Asus Zenbook she bought 5 years ago and she still uses it. I'm sure problems sometimes happen with any hardware, but I'm a believer in Asus.
Also: I've only had this computer for a day. I've been on it a lot and have it all set up for exactly how I will use it. If I encounter problems I will update this review. I definitely believe in the benefit of crowdsourced info.

I bought this laptop for $550 dollars and it was worth it. The dedicated GPU by itself is amazing to have on such budget price. The screen is also really good at the price point. My only complaint was that the RAM is not user upgradable but until now I haven't had any problem with running out of RAM with the 8GB included. Even light gaming is possible on this laptop. I really recommend the product!

Great Service w/ Geek Squad & Roku just purchased

The Zenbook that I bought last year is a nice type of computer since I couldn't afford the regular size of my Asus that I've had for 9 years that I bought at Best Buy also all that time ago. But the Zenbook doesn't hold near what my 9-year-old regular Asus computer holds but it's all I could afford. Having The Geek Squad and total Tech for 2 years after I purchased it is very good. I have bitdefender and have for over a decade and just need to get it updated from The Geek Squad I knew nothing about Webroot as they said that was what they put on last year but I have no way of seeing it I go through bitdefender to go through safe pay so I can do many things safely and have done this for over a decade I'm sure. I like the defender and I've never had any problems in all these years with it. So I hope they will be able to update it since I'm not as techie as I used to be being older. I want it updated and I don't know what they'll do to Webroot if it's even on there but bitdefender is my favorite out of everything and it's been the safest out of all that I know of that I've used for over a decade. Have family members that also have it and they've not encountered any problems either with Bit Defender total Security. The Roku was installed by my new carrier Spectrum since AT&T just overpriced everything and I hate giving up that service I had for decades but the cost just out did me being on a fixed income. I bought my TV there at Best Buy also there and it was installed and I like it it was similar to my other LG but it's a smart TV and has its own LG channels as well but with the Roku remote I'm able to get more channels free. So I would definitely give Roku a lot of stars for how it works even though being an older person it takes me a little bit longer to get used to new ways of getting to my stations that I was watching certain shows. It'll just take some time to get used to the new service and how things are. But Best Buy is a great store and has many options and good Geek Squad with tech support. Still learning things being an older person. But it helps saving me quite a bit of money by changing services and then getting the Roku.

Got this one with $150 discount. Best laptop for the price so far. This new AMD chip crushes Intel with better performance and better battery life. MX 350 allows you to do light gaming and video editing, which is way better than Intel UHD graphics and AMD APU. The only draw back is the keyboard back lit, which is very dim compared to other laptops. Overall, I highly recommend this one for students or people on a budget.

In general, I really like this laptop that I bought a few months ago. My kids both have MacAir, Macbook pro and I wanted something a lot cheaper but with similar design and very portable/lightweight. This has been a good deal, the display is crisp and clear, the size/weight is perfect, it does not heat up, internet (when it connects) is fast, even with several windows open, multiple USB ports and it generally functions well without issue with one exception. The one very annoying thing about this laptop is that it does not pick up wifi very well in my room or other parts of our house, which is only about 1000 sq. feet. It's not the wifi/router, because our other laptops and devices connect fine, even in the back yard. I am going to pick up a USB wifi receiver (about 30-40 bucks) to fix the problem. A minor concern for people with vision challenges: As others have mentioned, the color of the keyboard letters creates a bit of a visibility issue in certain light or when holding at a certain angle, but turning on the backlight function mostly resolved that issue for me. Otherwise, I like this laptop, just pick up a receiver when you buy it.

Pros: Super lightweight, solid build, good screen colors and brightness, quick performance, and can even handle some light gaming with the discrete graphics card.
Cons: Keys are not very visible because they are the same shiny metallic color as the rest of the computer. Light reflects off the keys making the white lettering hard to read. The backlight is too weak to help during the daytime. The computer also had an issue where the keyboard would stop working after it went into sleep mode. Another issue caused the fans to come on at full blast after waking it up from sleep mode. Another sleep mode issue caused the screen to stay black after opening the lid. All of the major issues are to do with the sleep mode on these computers. The only way to fix it is to do a full reboot...
Bottom line: I really loved this computer despite it's less than perfect keyboard visibility. There were too many issues with the sleep mode to justify keeping it.

Dear Caleb,
It's great to know that you like the lighweight, aesthetics and performance of the laptop.
We do understand your concern regarding the unit not waking up from sleep mode. If the laptop has been in sleep mode for a long time, the power button needs to be pressed and held down until the unit wakes up successfully. Or, if a recent WINDOWS Update was just installed, the unit will go into a black screen temporarily while updates are being applied in the System Registry. Another solution to try is to shutdown the unit completely by pressing and holding the power button until it power off. Wait for at least 10 seconds then press the power button to power on. Wait until the unit bootup normally into the Home screen.
Regarding the backlit keyboard, it is recommended to turn it off or adjust the keyboard brightness level while working in a well illuminated workplace, by tapping the hotkeys, "Alt + dim(small brightness icon)", repeatedly. Also, try to adjust the brightness level on the keys base the illumination of your work area.
It is normal for the fan to spin at full-throttle and generates noise louder than normal when the laptop wakes up from sleep mode since services and processes will start running simulatneously. Also, the fan noise will be louder while antivirus software or malware are running continuously in the background. Please make sure the system was not compromised by viruses or malware by doing a full system scan using an internet security software or application.
When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full-throttle and noise will be louder than normal. It does decreases or normalizes once utilization goes down.
If you need further assistance with the product, please email me at [email protected] and I will be more than happy to help. Or, call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent at http://bit.ly/AsusLiveChat.

Purchased this “open box” laptop and love it...... wanted a small laptop to use for emailing and for browsing the Internet........ and it does both with ease......my only minor complaint is the keyboard keys are dark gray and hard to see unless you have sufficient lighting....... not a deal breaker, but I believe the keys should have back lighting...... hence why I gave it only 4 stars.....!!

The ASUS - Zenbook 14" Laptop - AMD Ryzen 5 - 8GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce MX350 - 256GB SSD - Light Gray is the perfect 14” laptop. It’s light weight and has plenty of storage capacity. This laptop is very fast for its size. The only caveat is that the keys are difficult to see unless you are in complete darkness; otherwise I have had to turn the overhead light on to see the keys.
