Useless Zenfone features

Never owned an Asus or a "Zenfone" so the phone looked great on the outside but the system itself was terrible. Came packed full with useless apps that are not allowed to be removed; system memory was also consumed by them. Returned immediately.

Great features but poor phone quality

I bought this phone originally thinking it was going to be a great phone, the disappointments started as soon as I got it. It didn't come with the headphones like it states in the description, but Best Buy was super kind and understanding about the situation and gave me a $40 refund to be able to buy a pair to replace them. The phone itself is full of problems, mine crashes and restarts itself daily, multiple times some days, and no system update has fixed it. I also went 4 days without being able to receive and calls or texts from anyone, and it was not a network problem, we made sure of that at the store. I even had to factory reset my phone due to this and it fixed no issues I was having, and even now I continue to have tons of issues with it. It has become almost more of a hassle than a help and i'm close to throwing it out a window. Only gave it 2 stars because I like a few of the features it has, especially the finger print scanner on the back which is very convenient because I don't like having to unlock my phone every time I want to use it but I also don't want others to be able to use it whenever they want.

Great mid-range phone to own

Overall, the quality is good even though Asus is relatively unknown for its smartphones. Photo quality is great. The phone offers many features on its camera to customize photos. To me, long battery life and faster charging are important. This phone meets both of my requirement. If you don't want to spend over $400, 300 or even 200 on a phone, this phone may be your consideration. I also have to say getting the accessories for this phone is kind of challenging. Anyhow, the hardware and software (if you don't mind the Zen UI apps and theme) works just fine.

An unlocked phone for photos & videos?

STAY AWAY.
I had a zenfone 2 prior, so thought this new model would be ok. NOPE.
It is horrible at "multi-tasking". Email, chat app... camera for a quick photo? Forget it.. you may get a few shots but the whole phone will become so slow it's virtually unresponsive. It happens so often that I've learned to RESTART the phone when I want to take photos or video... so everything has to be planned out.. no more spontaneous snaps of life.
Further, forget medium to low light... just forget about it. The images you see and the samples of the photos that are "good" require PERFECT light... again, there goes spontaneous snaps.
AUTO FOCUS is no good. The preview you get looks good, but final picture can have the wrong things in focus. Most of my pictures end up with the background or foreground in focus and my kiddos blurred... I would say 6/10 times... yes, I clean the lens and I hold my breath every time I take a picture and make sure I am at a decent distance for optimal image.
So horrible. I am very disappointed... I think I'm done with Asus phones... the previous one I had (zenfone 2) also suddenly failed on me after about 14 months --- the primary sim slot stopped working... then I found out the 2nd sim slot does not do LTE... so much for that.
Lesson learned for me ... in total I lost about $400 which I guess I should have just went with Samsung or Apple...
STAY AWAY.

Good phone, but with serious design flaw...

I bought 2 of these phones for my teenage boys as a Christmas present. In general, the phones worked well for them and they liked the design. Unfortunately, the internal usb charging ports on both phones failed after roughly 4-5 months of use. Asus wants to charge me $75 each to repair the internal circuit boards. My contention is that this is a design flaw and is based on the fact that both phones had the same issue at roughly the same time. I'm currently arguing with ASUS support about this. I will not pay to have them repaired because I believe they will just fail again due to an inherent design flaw. If they don't replace them I will be out the $450 I spent on them plus the cost to buy a new set of phones. Very frustrating as I've had dozen of phones over the years and never had this type of issue. If anyone has had similar problems with this phone, please comment on this review. Thanks.

Got my Laser on Black Friday for $180 and it's been a wonderful experience ever since. Cameras work really well, the battery lasts a full day with heavy use and the screen is just gorgeous. Highly recommendable.

Keeps Disconnecting and Unable to Produce a 4G LTE

My partner bought me this phone a couple of weeks ago to accompany a Asus Zenwatch 2 that I purchased a while back, and while this phone has a lot of good features, it keeps disconnecting from the watch. It really irritates me because the matching phone unlocked features that weren't available on the LG phone I used it with before. Now, one would think that since they are the same brand and are running identical Android OSs that there wouldn't be a problem with staying connected, but that isn't the case. Another problem I have found with this phone is that no matter what I do, I can't get any better than a 4G connection. It's really strange considering that there are tons of reviews out there about it working so great with the AT&T network. I happen to use Cricket, which is owned by AT&T and uses their towers. As for the features of the phone, they are flawless and it only suffers from the above.

The phone performed well enough for what it cost. If you don't want to buy into the fancy smartphones, then this works fine. Keep in mind, I keep my phones updated, cleared of too much excess, I don't keep multiple apps running; but I had to issue of this phone freezing a lot. It doesn't multi-task so poor processing power. Having GPS and some music on Youtube at the same time froze it. Being on a phone call while on Facebook would make the videos unplayable after hanging up, unless I restarted the phone.
