Reboot issues

I got this phone for $89 when Best Buy had it on sale for $139, and at the same time had an additional $50 off if bundled with a new Cricket sim & top up card. My out the door price with tax was $131.70. Knowing I could sell the sim and top up card I jumped on the deal. I initially really liked the phone. It is a great size, has Oreo, and a decent camera. Overall performance was satisfactory and the battery lasted forever while I constantly played with/set it up. I spent a few days organizing and fiddling to get the phone to my liking. When I was ready, I inserted my active Tracfone AT&T sim into the card slot…and that’s when the problems started. I was able to make exactly one phone call (which was very good quality) but after that the phone kept going into an endless reboot cycle. I placed the sim in the other sim slot and the same thing occurred. When I removed the sim completely, the phone worked great.
I researched the Asus forums and found that this is a very widespread problem. Users have been complaining about it for a very long time. Since this constant rebooting makes the phone useless, I returned it for a full refund since, in my opinion, it is defective. I was also able to return the Cricket sim since I never opened it. However, I was not allowed to return the top up card but was able to sell it on eBay.
About a week after I returned the phone, someone on the Asus forums posted a work around for the rebooting issue – place the active sim in slot #2, and an extra, non-activated sim in slot 1. Supposedly that stops the reboots. If it weren’t for the reboot issue, I would have given this 4 stars.

TRASH!

I bought this phone before a trip to San Diego. The phone worked fine from the store after activation to the drive home and to work. Once I got on the plane to SD, it turned into a useless piece of junk. The phone kept rebooting once turned on after landing and until I got back home from the trip. The only time it somewhat work was when I took the SIM Card out and connected to the WiFi. Anytime the phone connected with a network tower away from home the reboot problem started. After 2 weeks, I threw it in the garbage where it belongs.
Side Note: A friend of mine had an ASUS awhile back and had the exact problems!

Great Phone with a Major Problem

The is a great little phone with an 18:9 display and quite a few nice features for the price point. I enjoyed using the phone for about 2 months with limited issues. It was sometimes sluggish (as expected with the processor/ram setup), and only occasionally rebooted a couple of times. The problems started on a recent trip. I was in LAX and the phone literally started a reboot loop that would not stop unless I removed the sim card. Now that I have returned home, I no longer have the rebooting issues. But upon another return to LAX, the reboots started again. It basically renders the phone useless in important moments. For this reason I will be replacing it.

Dear Awpzera,
I would like to thank you for taking your time in writing this review. I certainly understand your dissatisfaction with the quality of the product and your concern regarding the slow system performance. Since it comes mostly with web base applications and optimum performance relies on a working internet service, please verify if the phone is getting an excellent signal from a wireless router or hotspot and internet service is working properly. Try clearing your browsing history. Verify if the unit is not running low of free storage that is being utilized for caching, since this can affect system performance. If you do have ample amount of free space, please try to update the firmware to the most updated version. If this was already performed, please try to do a hardware reset (noted: data needs to be backup before you do hardware reset) and install the most current system update. If you need further assistance, please speak to an ASUS 24/7 live support agent or email me at [email protected]. We would be more than happy to help you.
Thanks for choosing ASUS.
