Very easy to connect and to program. Like the fact that minimum use of buttons is required.

This is a very nice answering machine and pretty easy to set up. I am hard of hearing and I can hear and understand my messages good now. I would encourage anyone looking for an answering machine to get this one.

I am very happy with this product. The answering machine is small and compact which I like and the messages that are played back are nice and clear. I could not ask for anything more and would highly recommend this product.

It's hard to find an ordinary answering machine in the stores these days. They only seem to have the phone/answering machine combos now. So we were happy to find this one on the Best Buy web site. It was easy to set up, and works great so far. It was definitely worth getting for the price.

This small unit is exactly what I was looking for. It takes up virtually no space on my shelf & easily connected to my landline phone. It's very easy to operate & has been working perfectly. I'm very happy with the purchase!

Answering machines can be hard to find unless they are attached to a cordless phone. This is the second one of this style from AT&T that I've owned. First one lasted about 10 years. I love the idea of being able to choose from many choices in setting this up. My favorite is having it announce the incoming number. For a very basic answering machine, I have found this to be one of the best.

This answering machine is loud and clear. It is easy to operate. you can turn the volume up and hear it in other rooms if need be. It does exactly what I want it to do. No complaints.

Yes, I still have a land line - my old answering machine finally died after 15 years of use (also an AT&T unit - some buttons stopped working). This answering machine has some nice features and it is relatively inexpensive.

Our 30 year-old AT&T standalone answering machine began to malfunction and after trying to fix it, we decided to buy a replacement. There weren't many choices. The AT&T model 1740 is a simple and foolproof answering machine for our landline phone. At first glance, my wife said it was too small, that it looked more like a toy, but it is one of the few standalone answering machines on the market. Once we installed it, adjusted the settings and started using it , we felt it does the job very well. So, If you want a standalone unit, this is one of the few left on the market. It works.

My mom or your grandmother or father may or may not be up on the voicemail game. Somedays I long for the times when I could just look at the machine and see what number of messages I have after I have been away from the phone...with ease on my eyes and just push play. No dialing in, no codes to push- straight forward play rewind/repeat or fast-forward skip. So easy and I made my mother very happy again for 15 dollars. Come on now, why put them through the nonsense, give them the ease of love. Let them come home and see" oh someone loves me I have 4 calls!"

In this day and age of voicemail, and answering services, sometimes, a simple way of doing things can be all one needs. My father, who still has hard wired phones in his house, (yes, even the old rotary style,) needed a new answering machine for one that I gave him many years ago. He doesn't use cell phones, and really doesn't like answering the house phone. This answering machine was easy to connect, easy to program, and picked up any...as in frequent, missed phone calls. Problem solved! Now if we could only get him to return calls that he missed!

This is a reliable and easy to use answering machine. I have owned one for many years. I recently bought a second one as I was having incoming calls cut off after two rings. It turned out to be the phone company that was creating this problem and not the answering machine. I will keep the second machine as a backup and troubleshooting tool for any future phone issues.

Less than $20, but worth a lot more for dealing with all those callers you really don't want to talk to. Actually, this little box has every feature you could ask for. I use it primarily for call screening. You can have it announce the calling number before it answers, which tells you which calls you should take. About the only feature I can think of, which this doesn't have, is the ability to match the calling number with the name of the caller, and announce the name instead.

Doesn't take up much space and I like that you can turn the sound down really low.
