I wanted a phone that could perform without lag and that was inexpensive. With all the new payment plans at the cell phone providers I decided I no longer wanted to participate in their "no contract" contracts and buy my next phone outright. I spent 6 months looking at different unlocked phones $250 and under. I have AT&T and like their service so this worked out great. Coming from an LG flagship phone, I didn't want to sacrifice anything and felt surely there are phones out there that don't cost $700 that work great.
This is the phone. I have experienced zero lag. I don't play heavy usage games but I have played many games that others have struggled to play on their phones just fine. There is not much more to say about performance. It doesn't have a lot of bloatware to use up all the RAM. The 2 GB of RAM is what makes this phone so great. Don't let the smaller processor scare you. This thing runs like a beast. Sure, there will be some lag somewhere but the same is true for high end phones as well.
For an 8 megapixel camera it takes pretty good pictures. If you hold it real steady the pictures look great but it is easy to get blurry photos if you're not careful. I was hesitant at first just because of the camera but another reviewer included a picture taken on the camera that helped me make the decision. I take most of our photos with my phone so the camera was VERY important. Compared to my wife's 8 megapixel phone camera this is way way better.
The sound is decent. The rear speaker works well if you hold your hand behind it when watching videos. The speaker phone is not real loud and you have to hold it up to your ear if there is background noise like in a car but still good enough. The earpiece is decent, again not that loud but not bad enough to not love the phone. The ringtone and notification volume is really really loud. You definitely won't miss any calls or texts if you have the volume turned up.
The phone itself feels solid and well made. The quality seems top notch and the soft rubber back makes it very comfortable to hold on to. You wouldn't know the thing is made out of plastic. Never owning a ZTE I didn't know what to expect.
Although the screen is only 720p, all you see is bright and clear. You won't see a noticeable a difference between this screen and a 900p or 1080p screen. This is one thing I was a little nervous about before buying because I had not seen one in person that was turned on. As soon as I turned it on I was so so happy. Videos are bright and clear and I have yet to notice anything other than a clear high definition picture.
Not sure what else to say except I cannot believe this phone was only $100. Plus it has a removable battery. Say what you want but I've had phones with and without a removable battery and when problems arose removing the battery for a second and putting it back in almost always solved the problem.
I never thought I would buy a $100 phone. Not because there is something wrong with inexpensive phones I just never thought a phone this cheap would perform the way I need it to. Never again will I assume if I want a good phone I need to spend $500 or more. I sure am glad I bought this.
Sorry for the long review but I always find more information is more helpful so I hope this helps someone. It's a great phone at a great price, you will love it. Feel free to ask me any questions in the comments.

The phone is very responsive, love the size of it, the features it has to offer, love the price for it, it's quality and value of it, camera images are very sharp, takes good pictures, mobile data is very good as fast as the speed of it, battery life is good.Overall the system performance is snappy for web, email, and productivity apps, gives you full screen resolution of the apps. I am glad I got it for $47.99 in the store. Thank you Best Buy for such a nice awesome, cool no contract phone. I've had no problems with it yet at all. Great phone is worth the price, working on AT&T network. Phone seem to be the size of a note 3, note 4. I love this phone until I cannot stay off it, LOL. So if you want one, I advise you to get one,

My Flagship phone clonked out on me after 2 years and left me without a phone. I purchased this phone for $79 with no real expectations except for basic use. To my surprise it performed just as well as more expensive phones that I'd had in the past. It has a large screen, nice display & performed rather nice. I definitely recommend this phone.

I purchased this phone to use as a backup phone to slowly replace my 4 year old AT&T iPhone. This ZTE ZMax 2 is a much better phone than my old iPhone. It's much faster and it has built in WiFi as well as a Hot Spot feature. I use my phone a lot for internet as well as for text messaging and calling.
The reception quality for calls is excellent and I the sound quality is excellent. I can hear very clearly when I make and receive calls. I always get an excellent signal on it even though I live in an area where the signal is very weak on all of my other cell phones. The signal that I get on the ZTE ZMAX 2 is excellent and it never drops any calls. The speaker phone is also very high quality. It has excellent sound quality and is nice and loud and the sound and you can hear through the speakers without any problems.
I also love the battery life on the phone. I heavily use this phone on and off all day long for the internet and for texting and making calls. The battery lasts me for 3 to 4 days with the heavy usage that I put this phone though before it needs to be recharged again. No other phone has this type of excellent battery life. You can use this phone all day long and the battery level will not go down very much. The battery that's inside this phone is a very high capacity battery which last a very long time during very heavy usage.
I love the affordable price of this phone. It costs hundreds of dollars less than the iPhone and the other Samsung high end phones and is just as good in quality if not better than them. I recommend this phone to anybody who is looking for a high quality no contract smartphone. You cannot beat the quality that ZTE put into this smartphone. It's the HIGHEST RATED no contract AT&T smartphone .that AT&T sells on this website.

Best budget phone for $79.99 with sharp and clear big screen, fast processor, 16GB storage and 2 GB Ram. Runs very fast, no lag. Cannot find a better budget phone at this price tag with such good specs and fast performance. I bought it for my wife, and she loves it!

You will be hard pressed to find this amount of storage and feature set in another phone at this price. The large screen is just the right size for me, although it might be a little large if you carry in a pocket vs. a purse. The 2GB of ram is more than one usually finds in a prepaid phone and keeps apps running smoothly. Battery life is outstanding! The camera quality could be better but I mostly use it for scanning and incidental photography. Would buy again.

I am an Android smartphone fan, and i have owned dozens of different Android models, and without a doubt, the Zmax 2 is by far the best budget smartphone there is. The phone features a high quality and nicely calibrated 5.5 HD screen, 16gb of onboard storage, plus the ability to expand with an SD card, and the Android 5.0 Lolipop skin is very close to stock Google, so the phone is very responsive and the performance rivals that of phones 3 times more expensive. The only cons that I could think of are the AT&T apps that are unnecessary, and take precious storage space, and that the unit is probably stuck on Android 5.0, but that's to be expected since is a budget phone. Bottom line is that in my humble opinion, there is simply no phone at this price point that comes close to the value of this unit. Great screen, great battery life, good ammount of storage plus the ability to expand, and a camera that is surprisingly decent for the price of the unit make this a steal. Highly recommended.

This is an awesome phone for under $100 and it works great on T-Mobile. I used the AT&T unlock service and unlocked it for T-Mobile. It has a 5.5 Screen, 2GB Ram, 16 GIG of disk space. It's responsive and runs very smooth. The rear camera is pretty good, but the selfie is not that great. It feels good to hold and not bulky. I bought a couple for family members, and will use 1 for my travel.

Well at this time in order to get a phone that has fairly good specs you are going to have to get a big phone. I wanted a phone that had at least 16 GB of storage and at least 2 GB of operating memory. And this phone does! It doesn't have much AT&T bloatware, and a lot of it could be disabled. I was left with little over 11 GB of storage for my apps, which is so much more than what I'm used to with the low memory budget phones. I don't know what to do with all that storage space! It has a nice clear screen, and a fairly good camera that adjusts well to mixed lighting conditions. I went to the AT&T store to their Go Phone section to buy the plastic case because Best Buy did not have them. All in all a great phone and I'm very pleased, I just wish it wasn't so big. The phone makers need to realize we want mid-range specs at a budget price and not everybody wants a phablet.

Great experience so far! Best buy says 8gb but its really 16gb so thats a plus!! I had a LG Flex, screen cracked and I refused to jump on the "AT&T Next Program" boat so I got this device and I can't lie, I am stoked! It's a great device so far, no glitches or anything. It's a great display, clean Lollipop Android, great feel and I love the size. Coming from an LG I have to get used to the buttons on the side and the missing knock-knock feature but I'm totally satisfied with this purchase!!
It's light and pretty basic look/feel. Calls are great & clear, speakers are on bottom back and even covered sounds good.
Camera isn't out of this world, its a decent basic camera but it def gets the job done and for the price I'll take it!! I have posted a sample shot.
My only con is so far, as I know, it does not have an IR blaster and I def used my phone as my remote at times. It also lacks NFC, but I never used that anyways.

The phone arrived on time and in good shape. It has an amazing battery life and the camera is good as well which is important to me since I am a working artist. The only draw back is it did not come with detailed instructions which I needed since I never have had a smartphone before. I found them at the ZETA MAX site and made a hard copy (170 pages) but now I can use it to it's full extent. A cover and glass protector can be found at the AT&T store along with a car charger and ear buds. I have seen these items on Amazon as well. AT&T was great about putting in a sim card to carry the account I already have with them. I did not use this phone as a go phone as I like my present plan. I am a grandmother and have been able to easily master this new devise. I love it.

Large screen, great battery life and expandable storage. What else do you want? This phone has twice as much ram as most of the other inexpensive ones so it runs apps with great speed. The GPS receiver has both GPS and Glonass for superior accuracy. Yes, it's an AT&T GoPhone but if you get it unlocked before you use it on their network it'll work on T-Mobile, too. It has Band 12 for T-mobile's new LTE network. I tested this phone on both AT&T and T-Mobile in the middle of the Manistee National Forest while geocaching and it worked quite well on both networks. Yes, AT&T would drop out occasionally as would T-Mobile but considering where I was I had no complaints especially when the fancy Verizon and Sprint phones we had couldn't get a signal anywhere.

I purchased this phone to replace a ATT HTC Go Phone. It has a larger screen which I have enjoyed. The camera works fairly well and the picture quality is good enough for my needs. The only real drawback to me is the speed of the phone, it works great for texting and making phone calls, but some of my apps will hesitate which is sometimes annoying (any ideas would be appreciated). The best thing is the battery life, it is better than any phone I have previously owned. This phone is a keeper!

I bought this smartphone for my daughters as a replacement for their old dying carrier contract phones. They usually get my wife's and I old hand me down but we had switch to a different non contract kind of plan so in short the girls needed their phones replaced. I didn't want to break the bank especially buying two smartphones would definitely break me if I went to buying the most popular smartphone out there. I saw that the Zmax 2 just came out into the market and it had a huge screen that they love for their picture taking and social media apps. The Zmax 2 is pretty responsive and does not bat an eye at all the demanding use that my girls put the phone through. The setup was so easy too. The phone is considered a Go Phone but I asked the local ATT store to help me get their SIM cards changed to the right size for this phone. Once their SIM card was in the phone was started, I restored their apps from a Google account restore and the rest was history. My daughters love their phones and of course my pocket loves this phone since it has been such a great bang for the buck replacement. I have even recommended it to a friend that has also bought one of these for his son.

I first bough this model for someone as a gift last christmas and recently purchased the same for myself after i broke my iphone. Not wanting to spend alot as I have gone through a galaxy and iphone in the last year and a half, I took a chance on this model. This device can handle multiple apps at the same time, decent battery life, large screen (almost too big for me as i can no longer use just one hand to text) and has a pretty responsive touchscreen, good camera quality and good processing speed. Overall I think this model compares pretty well with higher end, name brands at a much much lower price.
