The combat is an evolution of the previous Atelier Ryza trilogy allowing you to evade attacks in real time instead of just blocking them. You can even attack foes from afar while in battle. You also have the ability to set up multiple bases around the world that you can use to craft items on the go instead of just being able to do it at the atelier plus you can save anywhere in the world now.

Very engaging JRPG. The open world setting is vast and easy to get lost in just gathering materials. Main characters are fun and charming. As is the Synthesis system for making new items and equipment.
If you've never played an Atelier game before, this is a great place to start. You don't need knowledge of the previous games to get into this. It is the synthesis system that sets the game apart from other JRPGs. It is effectively crafting, but more complex in how the system rewards you with very powerful items and equipment for the combat once you learn how to use it. That is the fun of these games.
The main negative is that the game struggles to run smoothly on the Switch. There is potential for the game to crash if too many environment details are loaded at once.
Despite the performance, it is still playable and a fun game overall. I recommend this game if you are in need of a huge open-world JRPG to sink your teeth into. I'm 60 hours in at the time of this review and haven't even experienced half of the entire game yet.

An addictive and entertaining new game from the Atelier series for fans new to the series and longtime gamers of the series. The gameplay mechanics will take a bit getting used to but once you have you'll be traversing through the world at your leisure. Think a mix of The Tales series mixed with Breath Of The Wild and you'll have a basic concept of what to expect here. At the end a game that's worth adding to the Switch collection.

A different style of Atelier game, but still a fun time.
