    Excellent Entry Into Satellite Radio

I got this for Christmas and absolutely love it! I installed it myself, which took about an hour in my Nissan Xterra. In the pics you will see the wires sticking out and antenna sitting on the dash, but I have since drilled a hole behind the base which has neatly hidden the wires; and I also put the antenna outside on the roof, which works much better. I used the SureConnect and contrary to what some say, have gotten excellent reception using the FM modulator. The remote makes for a much safer driving environment. It's also nice to be able to remove the radio from the base when I park somewhere so I don't have to worry about someone trying to steal it. I love this so much I am buying another for my girlfriend's car!

    So far so good

I bought this unit a couple of days ago. Have not had a problem as of yet. Takes about an hour to setup and route the wires. If you have an outside FM/AM antenna, the SureConnect feature will need to be routed from the outside of your car to the inside. This is easier to do on some vehicles than others. If your antenna is located in your windsheild, you can use the included attachment and will not need to run the wires from the outside. Take into consideration that your going to have some wires in plan view. Theres no way around it. However, they do include some accessories to organize the wires, so their not a jumbled mess. The instructions include a reference to a Radio frequency locator thats suppose to help you find a vacant or acceptable frequency for setting up the your Sat. receiver to broadcast through your car stereo. However, the frequency that was indicated as 'vacant' in my zip code was being used by a local radio station. They rate the various frequencies in your area from 'vacant' to 'great' to 'good'. Most of the frequencies they listed for my area where being used by local stations, or I was picking up distant stations. I just moved up and down the fequencies until I found one that worked. The sound quality and reception is acceptable. So, overall, for the $50 dollars I payed for the receiver, I'm satisfied with this purchase.

    Like it a lot

I like mine a lot. I wasn't interested in the playback features and didn't care about having the nicer displays so much, so I bought this model. Salesman said I'd like this one then. I like having 10 presets per band, and the other buttons are fairly easy to navigate while driving. I had mine installed by the guys at Best Buy - 2 installers had it done in 15 minutes, after discussing where to mount it on my dash. Therefore I have no wires sticking out, etc, and it doesn't use up any of my cig plug ports (I can keep those for other things, like my cell phone). I would recommend letting the pros hook it up for you, it's worth the extra couple bucks. I also bought the FM direct adapter, which plugs directly into the antenna port on the back of any car radio, then your regular antenna plugs into it, directly funneling the signal right to the car's audio system. This method provides fairly decent audio sound. Still not as great as listening to a CD, but this is my third vehicle with XM, and all 3 have sounded the same - all pretty good. So far I haven't experienced any hardware malfunctions like the other users, but it's only been a little over a month so far, but loving so far.

    Good basic XM receiver

This is a good XM receiver with basic features. The display is backlit, and is easy to read. The dial is easy to use for tuning and memory presets are easily set and recalled. I tried the FM modulator, but there was too much static to hear the stations. The only other options are a hard-wire profession install or the cassette adapter. Luckily my car has a cassette player, but most only have a CD player now. My other car only has an in-dash CD player (without auxiliary input), so I’m not able to use this player in that car without purchasing the boombox accessory or upgrading to a new CD player with auxiliary input. The installation isn't difficult, but the wiring can get messy. The XM antenna mounts to the outside of your car, the power goes to the cigarette outlet and cassette adapter to the tape deck, all this back to the Audiovox Receiver. If you don't want wires running all over your car, the professional installation may be the way to go.

    Works great Easy to install

Just bought the Express. Very easy to install and has great features expecially the remote which makes it safe to drive and surf xm with out having to look away. The only downside to this product is the 2 wires that hand along the dash which is acceptable because this was purchased seperatly from my car. The paint is also slightly worn on the back and side of the express receiver which might show a sign of whats to come with age. I might even return it for a replacment with out paint damage When the volume is turned up loud or when switching station you can hear a slight static from the station that is being used to transmit. Maybe this should be expected when using a fm transmiter but Great overall!

Right from the moment I plugged the unit into the cigarette lighter of the car (parked inside the garage with the doors shut) I was impressed the reception. I upgraded from the original Roady and was taken back with the excellent performance of this unit. PROS:::: * Awesome Satellite Reception * Ability to Aim Antenna when hooked to home docking station * FM Transmitter Performance is much increased over the original FM transmitters. (The old FM transmitters lacked fidelity.) The sound with this FM transmitter is strong, bass is deep and the highs are clear and crisp. * This transmitter transmits through the external satellite antenna outside the car (as opposed to through the cigarette lighter adapter) * Strong enough to block out fairly strong nearby FM stations. * Can set the frequency to anything between 88.1 and 107.9 * Set the frequency by changing the dial * The docking station has an auxiliary input and output. Imagine all of the useful things you can plug in there, like mp3 players or portable TVs /DVD/ Computer audio * The Display is CRISP, CLEAR, and Easy to read day or night. The default is white background with black lettering. It is very easy to read, day or night. * Has a dial for channel and option selection * Comes with everything you could need to hook it up in a car. * The easy dock makes it easy to switch between car and house, just unplug it and go. CONS::::: * The only real con is that the buttons are hard to see at night. (Although after you initially get it setup, you shouldn't have to mess around with the buttons to much. The menu button is right in the middle. After you initially get set up that will probably be the only button you use. Lets face it, if you had the old Roady, then after a while you managed to work that thing in the dark with ease.

    Great upgrade from roady

I purchased this unit as a replacement for my old roady xt. I love the 5 line display, easy tuning and easy install. I tried the fm modulator and gave up. It is useless. I use a casset adapter and everything works great. 10 minutes to install and another 5 on the phone to switch my account over and it was up and running. My only complaint is that BB advertises this unit comes wit a remote and it doesn't.

    Sound Quality Is Poor

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I used this for about 2 weeks, before returning it to Best Buy. The variety of channels and stations is very nice, and I LOVED the sports variety. If you prepay for 3 years you can get it for about ten bucks a month, so that's not bad. Installation was very easy, but way too many wires. I suggest paying for pro install so you don't have to go thrue the trouble of trying to loosen door panels to tuck in the wire. My two huge gripes is the sound quality and the constant changing of the unused FM frequency. Sound quality isn't close to FM, even with all the adjusting I made to my stereo. This was a huge disappointment. The sound was clear most of the time, but it never sounded like it was in stereo. Then you have to adjust the unused fm station because the statics gets gradually worse. After about two weeks I just couldn't take it anymore. If you really want the next evolution in car audio, then trade up as i did to an HD radio. I bought one at best buy and they gave me a discount on the install. The one I bought even comes with a built in XM radio. Now the sound is much clearer and much less static. If you really want to try XM, then i strongly recommend a hd radio tuner with XM or Sirus built in. The sound is so much better. Pay the extra hundred bucks and avoid this.

    Very good unit

I would highly recommend this unit. I read MANY reviews about this unit and a lot of them said the built in fm transmitter did not work well at all. My experience has been the exact opposite. I live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area where there are lots of radio stations and I have not had any problems with the fm transmitter that is built into this unit. I also use the included "sure connect" that comes with it. I have found it to work extremely well and the sound quality is great! I am very pleased with this unit and would recommend it to anyone.

    A great little XM radio

I bought this radio a few days ago and am very happy with it. I noticed that some people said that this unit is too bright for night driving. This problem is easily rectified by setting the backlight timer to 10 seconds or so (choices are between always on and 30 sec). It will not light up again until you change stations or volume, etc. I also see that some have reception issues (static), this can be rectified by having the unit professionally installed (hard wired) and have the “Sure Connect” added (a must). It connects between your in dash radio and FM antenna (behind the dash) and eliminates most if not all of these issues. In my case I have zero static, so the $82 (tax included) it cost me to have it installed was money well spent in my opinion, plus the fact that I have no wires hanging around. Call me crazy, but I have not listened to terrestrial radio for 3 years now. I hope some of this info helped.

A lot of bang for the buck

If anyone can tell you about sattelite radio, I can. I own the expensive one, my parents have the inexpensive one, and now we have the mid-priced one. I bought this for my husband. He enjoys the sports ticker and commercial free music. He likes that it is portable with him. He is in the service and sometimes has to go to an area to train that doesn't have his Red Sox games he enjoys. With this radio, he never misses any games! He's likes the presets to save his favorite stations. His only complaint is he can't listen to it in Iraq, but that isn't the fault of the radio. This is a good radio to buy because it has many great features for the price. A very good item if you are a little more savvy to satellite radio.

    Great Gift!

I got this as a birthday gift...it took me only about an hour to get it installed. The directions were easy to follow. The hard part was figuring out where it was going to be mounted. I love the sound quality! It is easy to read the display and change channels while I am driving. It looks good in the car...very stylish! Annoying thing: The display screen is too bright at night. Even turned down and on the lowest contrast possible. Where is the black screen with red characters, designers? I got stopped by CHP once because the officer thought I was watching a movie while driving...DOH!

I absolutely love my satelite radio. There is non-stop music or news. My children can listen to the kids station and I don't have to worry about what they will here. The price is right.

    Great unit

Have had the unit for about 3 months and have found the unit to be very good. Only complant would be the mount system. Just could not find a good place for the mount to work so I just store unit in a storage pocket in the console of my car. I have used the mp3 hook up for my radio and have had know problems with the way the unit functions. Would recommend and am considering purchasing the home adaptor so that I can use it in the house when not in the car.

    Awesome Product

I bought this radio the day after Christmas and had it hooked up in less than an hour. I haven't had any problems with it except that the FM transmitter didn't work very good. I solved that by running a wire from the XM radio to the back of my in dash unit. I would highly recomend this item to anyone looking to get an XM radio.

    Just Annoying

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I was very happy with this product initially, then it kept falling out of the mount, it slides out while driving and dangles from its wires. Not all dashes are completely level, this should have been considered in the design. Now the 1-5 keys on the front bottom have quit working. I have only had this unit for a month! Now I need to use the remote to enter the channels. The quality is just not there on this one...

Love it. Works perfectly. Bought it for my parents as a gift, (seniors), and it's great! They're 1930's and 1940's FM station in the area closed down, and this was the ticket! Now they get it all the time commercial free on channel 4.

Very easy to use and hook up. Once you find a station to tune to on your fm car radio, just pre-set the channel and you ready to listen to XM radio. Once you listen to XM radio, you will NEVER listen to regular radio ever again.
