Great if you rent. Not if you own.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.August's twist on the smart lock is interesting. You keep the external part of the deadbolt and replace the internal knob. This is great for apartment dwellers but I can't get over the fact that you need to purchase a separate $70 keypad when you've already spent $200, plus you don't even get a new deadbolt for it. Other options from Schlage, Yale and Kwikset have everything built in for less. So great if your landlord needs access to your place but if you're in a house, I'd look elsewhere.

August HomeKit Package
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We ordered two HomeKit versions of the locks, the camera/doorbell and the keypad. 1. The lock itself is HUGE. Not very attractive even if the finish matches other hardware. It operates smoothly and unlocks as it should when you're nearby. Still the knob was too large for my wife's hand. You must have a deadbolt installed as the August lock is a retrofit only including the rear part of the lock. 2. Each lock requires its own August Connect to act as the gateway between the Bluetooth and wireless connections. Each Connect must be within 20 feet of the lock which isn't always easy as there may not be electricity in the entryway. The Connect is required if you want to view or control the state of the lock remotely. 3. The Keypad is simple and does its job as expected. 4. The camera/doorbell is a total mess. Setup is easy but it goes offline frequently; sometimes it will come back online but more often than not, it will just stay offline. There was a "secret" way to reset the camera in the iOS software but, apparently, it no longer works after an update. This is a problem because if the camera is offline, you have to remove it from the wall which means having to remove the security screw; not an easy task. Then, you have to push the reset button and reverse the process. Picture is clear and the voice is easy to understand on both ends. It does include a wedge for doorbells close to the door. 5. In addition to the fact that you can't reset the doorbell in the iOS software, you can't do a lot because there is NO documentation. You would think that shipping their locks for a couple of years, they would have some documentation even online. The only support is the FAQ and installation video for each product. There's a lot to be customized but just try figuring out how to get there. Beyond that, contact support. 6. Support is decent. Submit a ticket and you're promised you'll be contacted by the next day. Each time, I waited 24 hours and then called them directly because I hadn't heard from anyone. The only phone number access will be sent to you in a receipt for your support ticket. I have given up on August as a viable solution after waiting for months for a promised delivery. It was a waste of time and I replaced the August system with a Kwikset Kēvo which had an easier setup. One has to buy a Bluetooth Gateway but one is sufficient for multiple locks. It doesn't have a keypad but two real keys, two e-Keys (additional e-Keys are $0.99) and a key fob. In addition, I installed a Ring Pro and Ring Cameras. All-in-all, a much easier installation and they work flawlessly. In addition, the Ring and Kēvo work together so I can unlock the door from the Ring app.

Excellent Product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The only thing I think that needs to be said about the August Smart Lock is that it just works. Installation was a breeze. If you unlock or lock the door manually you are notified. If you lock or unlock it remotely it happens immediately. Very responsive and easy to use. I would absolutely recommend this product.

Easy setup
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The August Smart Lock was really easy to set up. It took 10 minutes and only a Phillips screwdriver. I didn't purchase the August Connect because it's not needed because I have an iPad about 30 feet away that I set up as my Home Hub. I haven't tried the virtual keys yet, but I'm looking forward to that ability. I love being able to unlock my door with Siri on my Apple Watch even without my iPhone.

An Awesome Smart Lock!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a smart lock that I got through a Kickstarter campaign a few months ago, and it broke down. It wasn't easy dealing with that company's tech support team, so I figured it was time to try something else. The installation was easy, setup for the lock was a breeze, and best of all it works via the August app, Xfinity Home App, and Apple Home. I haven't tried it yet; but, it's also suppose to work with the Echo and Google Home. It also allows an easy entry option for those you trust with access to your house - all they need to do is download the app after you invite them to access the lock. Anyways, the August lock has been installed for a bit over a month and has been really reliable.

It's very convenient
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I personally think that this is a good buy. No hassle of carrying keys with you or to unlock the door if you are carrying a lot of items. No need to worry if you dropped the keys or misplaced it. It gives you the peace of mind. I don't have August connect so the lock/unlock functionality is limited to a certain range which is pretty decent, with connect you can lock unlock from anywhere with your cell. I am not handy at all. I was able to install it myself by watching the video online as listed on the August website. All you need is a screw driver.

I wanted to love it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read the reviews before hand. It had home kit and worked with alexa. Not many products that work with both. I really wanted to love the product. Easy-ish enough to install. It allowed use of a key on the outside still...so that was a good feature to have. Auto unlocked when I got home. However, I had to return it at the point the unit got uncalibrated somehow and wife was essentially stuck inside the house. Thats when I was told to take it off. It was always weird to unlock the door because there was no knob...just a big unit you turned. I ended up getting Kwikset Premis and love it so far. Miss some of the features August had, but like the knob and slim look of the unit on inside/outside.

Great for those that can't change their lock fully

Love it!!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like having the August lock, it works just as advertised . The only issue that I have so far, is that when you walk up to the door it does not always auto unlock. My wife has an s5, my daughter a X and I have a note 8 which seem to work best with the auto unlock. Best feature is the automatic locking, I have mine set for 2 minutes. I love that I can never worry about leaving my door unlocked. My next purchase will be the wifi bridge to give me access to the lock while am away from Bluetooth range. Got this 9ne for a good price because the new model is out, which has come with a sensor so that the lock know if the door is open or closed, I think its a nice feature that only August has ( as far as I know). But since I have a security door sensor I am ok with not having the August sensor and the savings of buying this "older" was substantial too :-). By the way, you need the bridge for the lock to play with other devices such as Alexa and xfinity home.

Glad I took the chance with this lock.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this not knowing all the details. Just my luck it syncs with Comcast security system very nice. I'm talking about extremely nice like it were built to be part of the system. As for cellphones, it's different for Android and iOS. You don't need to buy anything extra for iOS. You need to purchase the Google Home device(an extra $129 at the moment) and you won't be able to unlock the door. Guess unlocking the lock with voice control is only an Apple feature at the moment which sucks for Android users. I'm happy for my purchase of this lock. It gotten better over time due to the software updates for auto unlock.

Amazingly simple install; works great so far
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installing this thing was a breeze. They give you easy to understand instructions and it went in easily. Setting up the device with the app also worked flawlessly. My AppleTV is probably 20 feet away and it works well to act as a bridge for away access. The time it takes to lock/unlock could be quicker through Siri. But the fact that I can do it at all is pretty amazing so I'm not complaining too much about that. I'm sure that can improve over time. Overall, I have enjoyed the convenience of this product. It works really well.

Solid lock
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This lock works well with Apple homekit allowing you to lock and unlock while away from home. The auto lock feature is also comes in handy and gives you peace of mind knowing that your door will always be locked when you are away even when you forget to do so.

Best Smart lock on the market
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the August. One of the best smart locks. No need to change keys as it works with your current deadbolt. Wish the August Connect was built in but a most need to access the lock remotely.
