Avatar The Way of Water Review

This is the second movie in the James Cameron Avatar franchise and continues the story of Jake Sully, or more precisely the consciousness of Jake transferred into his Na'vi avatar. I don't have space here to recap the entire plot, and there are already plenty of places on the internet that do just that. Suffice it to say that if you saw the first you know what to expect in the second. The only comment I will make is that unlike the first movie, this one obviously anticipates that there will be other movies in the franchise (spoiler alert, there are) and leaves a number of open story lines and loose ends. As this is a Cameron film technically the move is a marvel, the effects are outstanding, so much so that I think they sometimes distract from the plot. But all in all, if you're a fan of the first, you'll be a fan of the second. Bonus points for releasing the Blu-ray in 3D.

My husband and I are both lifelong techies. We have a large-screen 3D/ 4K projector. We saw this movie in the theater and both got disoriented when Cameron sped up the film to be more "lifelike" at odd times in the movie (there are critic reviews about this). This created the soap-opera effect and forced us out of the magic of Pandora. Well fear not. This 3D version for home viewing is slowed down to the normal film speed. It is absolutely stunning and the movie is now the masterpiece it was meant to be! Thank goodness for Cameron for releasing this 3D version in the US. We are often forced to get UK imports.

AVATAR THE WAY OF WATER 3D IS STUNNING CINEMA

AVATAR THE WAY OF WATER in 3D, like its predecessor, AVATAR 3D, is visually stunning, even on the small screen. The visual and special effects are mindboggling. What I enjoy more about this second installment is that the character plot is more personal, and all the characters are much more developed, so as to know and understabnd eacxh of them better. Another magnif8icient cinema achievemdent by James Cameran.

Oh my god! I am one of the people who still loves 3D movies. I was so happy to see that this was actually available in 3D. I originally was looking for foreign copies because that's what I usually have to do. But to my pleasant surprise, I didn't have to look for a region-free copy. Needless to say, it looks great. I am the owner of a legacy 3D television from 2013 as well as an a 3D projector that lets me use active shutter glasses. This is one of the pleasant surprises of my entertainment year.

A great 3D Bluray movie. I purchased a LG 65" 3D OLED TV from Best Buy several years ago. I have over 200 3D Bluray movies including the original AVATAR. I was very excited to get the new AVATAR movie in 3D. It has a gorgeous picture quality. The EXTRA disc that came with the movie was fascinating. I hope that TV manufacturers will decide to bring back 3D OLED TVs.

I finally got a few hours away from everything and sat down with my 10 year old grandson, and he dragged his grandma into watching it, and let me tell you, the 3D blows us away. When I can get my grandson to put down his tablet and phone to watch something, that is always a plus. even though we have watched it on our 8K TV, we were still amazed at watching it in 3D. In fact, I think the 3D makes you pay more attention to everything that's going on. If you have the equipment (like a 3D TV because most DVD players will have a 3D pass filter), then all I can say is, this is the way to go.

3D!! I was losing hope we would get a 3D copy of this movie and James Cameron came through. Hopefully this is the start of a come back. The movie itself is mostly expected, but pops in 3D. Too bad there wasn’t a 4K/3D combo, but I guess I can’t complain too much.

This movie is fantastic in 3D, and this blue ray edition in 3D is very good. Don't understand why they stopped producing 3D TV's and there are almost no 3D movies available today. Our whole family enjoyed watching this movie and the 3D effects make it even more enjoyable. Something 4K can't do.

    A reminder of 3D potential

3D releases are more and more rare. This is a vivid reminder of how much visual potential there is in 3D compared to even the best 4K standard presentation. I got a 4k digital copy when it became available and had some friends over to watch it. Now, playing this 3D disc (actually it fills 2 discs) on the same LG OLED is a much more immersive experience.

    Best 3D ever!!

The depth of the 3D is debatable, but the clarity is unmatched!! The 3D movie is on 2 discs, which allows the quality of the 3D to stretch its legs, but some quality was still left on the table, as the full size of the disc is not fully utilized. The unnecessary language took up some space. Only a 7.1 soundtrack, no ATMOS or DTS:X.

3D is incredibly nice. Especially during the ocean sequences. Too bad current TVs don’t support 3D. I’m still enjoying my 2016 3D OLED, but afraid how to watch after that. This movie deserves to be seen in 3D. We need newer 3DTVs and more 3D movies to enjoy like this. Highly recommend if you can see this in 3D. Must have.

I didn’t get the chance to see Avatar The. way of Water at the big screen in Newport. By purchasing the 3D CD I had the closest thing to the big screen. It was exciting and full of action. I also received a Blue Ray disc that I let my family members borrow. It way worth the money. Some family members and I have watched it twice since purchasing. I recommend it.

Awesome transfer to Blu-Ray especially in 3D. I still have a SONY TV that is 3D compatible with my Oppo DVD system so needless to say, it's just like being at the movies. Sadly, once this Sony bites the dust, I won't be able to watch my movies in 3D because all the brands stopped making 3D TV's. But, at least the package included a regular Blu-Ray copy, so I'll still have that.

Movie is great, but they really should have tried to put it on one disc. Also I don't understand why the 4K version came with the lenticolor 3D slip, and the actual 3D Blu-ray movie didn't? Overall though I'm really happy that they released this I hope they start releasing more Blu-ray 3DS. Because that market is hot all of the big projectors have 3D and 3D TVs stop being made in 2017 are still being brought up on the second hand market. Not to mention virtual reality all throws 3D. So keep it up Disney and fox don't make us have to search the black market for this stuff.

So glad that I preordered this on day 1. Watched it last night, and the picture quality is incredible (rivals seeing it on Laser IMAX). Thankful that they divided the movie onto 2 discs to minimize resolution loss through additional compression.

I'm lucky to have two 3D TVs still; I have the Panasonic VT60 and the LG C6 (2016). There only used to watch my 3D collection; I wish there were a 3D 4k TV, keeping my fingers crossed. A great version in 3D; the picture really shines and I enjoyed every minute. Good luck finding a copy.

I didnt see it in theaters. Still into the 3d format and was excited for this release. 3d is fantastic, and fullscreen throughout, which makes such a difference on home theater setups. Virtually no ghosting and the depth of some of the scenes is fantastic. Very happy with the purchase.

This is the sequel to Avatar directed by James Cameron. The original is the standard that all other 3d movies go by. This film is as exceptional in 3D but with newer and more sophisticated visual effects. I couldn't wait to buy it and it was well worth the wait !

Great to have the 3D option (as available in theaters) and the movie looks great. The slipcover is also nice to have for a collector like me. Please encourage the studios to produce 3D blu-rays for all theatrical 3D releases.
