    GREAT LITTLE SPEAKER PHONE

GREAT LITTLE SPEAKER PHONE REVIEW: AVERMEDIA - USB CONFERENCE SPEAKER PHONE MODEL:AS311 Best Buy Tech Insider Network SUMMARY: I’m on video conference calls seemingly all day everyday while I’m working remotely along with the rest of the company. A good quality speakerphone is a must have and not as easy to find as one might think. Probably 50% of the people in our organization have substandard speakerphones and headsets making it difficult to hear well on calls. The AVERMEDIA - USB CONFERENCE SPEAKER PHONE (AS311) works really well as a personal speakerphone, and does an excellent job blocking background noises while proving clear audio for both the listener and speaker. I thought I had a pretty good speakerphone already. After I installed the AVERMEDIA - USB CONFERENCE SPEAKER PHONE (AS311) several people asked if I got a new speaker phone due to the increased call quality. I really like the well lighted control panel, which takes the guess work out of mute, volume, set. I also like that it uses USB-C instead of USB-Micro for the interface. I like the compact size (maybe a large set of oversized playing cards), and it takes up much less room on my desk than my prior speakerphone. SETUP: Unbox and plug it in, at least for windows that is all you need to do. I would suggest you use the included USB cable. I initially used one I had laying around to charge my headset, and nobody could hear me talk. I realized after the call that I must have had a “charge only” cable and not a full USB data cable. As soon as I switched to the included cable, everything was perfect. SUMMARY: The AVERMEDIA - USB CONFERENCE SPEAKER PHONE (AS311) met all of my needs and expectations. I fully recommend this product, especially for personal use. I’m sure it would work in small workgroup as well, but I think it is optimized perfectly a for single person / remote worker.

    A great speakerphone for PC

I’ve never had a conference speakerphone at home, and with the shift to remote work I began to experience headset fatigue from call after call with clients. I missed the easy-to-use conference speaker in our office conference rooms, but never thought about getting one for home use. In the box, you’ll find the speakerphone, a USB C to USB A cable, and the manuals/guide. I was impressed to see this was plug and play, was immediately recognized, and worked after plugging into both my laptop and desktop running Windows 10. It will default to taking over all audio, which can be changed in the Windows settings; including the volume icon on your taskbar. This worked well with Zoom, Skype, Facebook Messenger calls, Discord, and Microsoft Teams. In each case, it was simple to change the audio settings in those apps to use the speaker and microphone from the AverMedia device. After restart of my PC, there was no need to update the audio settings again, as the speakerphone continued to be the default in each app I used. This claims to have “AI” built in to help block out background noise, including dogs barking. This doesn’t require any additional software installation, as it’s handled on the hardware itself. The speaker is relatively small but does a GREAT job with audio. Calls were easy to hear, understand, voice quality was excellent, and the device does a wonderful job blocking out background noise. The speakerphone effectively cut out my dogs barking over days of use, and I didn’t have one issue with its use. The touch pad buttons are easy to see, with volume up/down, a mute button, and an arrow button that would launch my default browser when pressed. There are 5 indicator lights for volume level, that turn red when you mute. So far, I’ve used this with three different Windows PC’s and has worked flawlessly for about 15 calls. I was even asked during a call if I had a new headset, as my voice audio was captured clearly and heard easily by those on the call. Overall, I really love this device. It’s made joining calls easy, without the hassle of plugging in or powering on a wireless headset for use. If you’re in the market for a conference call speaker phone for use at home, or the office, this is a SOLID choice.

    Great noise cancelation, tiny speaker.

A plug and play microphone and speaker is essentially what this is, so any application that needs just that, this will pretty much work. No additional software needed as the computer picks it up and uses it right away. You may need to ensure it is the device for some applications, but most were set to default and this made itself default when plugged into a Windows computer. The AI noise cancellation works pretty well, keeping out even the sounds of music and games playing in the background, only hearing bits of it in parts where I was long winded. Everyone I talked to said I sounded clear and crisp, but sounded distant, like I was on a speakerphone. The only issue I have is that the speaker sounds tiny. With it able to keep sound from being heard by others, it was hard to hear them with that noise on my side. With volume maxed out the other side does sound clear, and it sounds like it has an EQ for voice, but with it being so small, and any noise on my side it is hard to hear them. Now, you can essentially change your output to something else, like headphones while still using the AI noise cancellation of the AS311, but that sort of defeats the purpose. Controls are simple with volume displayed in 5 LED dots, mute changing them from blue to red, AI enable/disable and a shortcut button that opens your default browser on Windows. However, if you already have a browser window open and you touch that shortcut key, it will open the default page right over the tab you already have open. Essentially closing out anything you may already have open and requiring you to go back to it. Something that can easily be bumped if you are trying to touch mute instead. Overall, it does well with canceling out noise, but unless you are already in a fairly quiet space, you are going to have a hard time hearing the other side. Plus, I don’t want to know the frustration that shortcut key can cause if using a browser based conference call.

I like the idea of a portable speakerphone for video conferencing calls. It helps when more than one person is with me. I wanted to like this a lot but the microphone sounded to distant to the person on the other side. The speaker however was really loud and clear. I tried to use the AI and that only made the sound more muffled and like I was talking from another room. I like the product but there are better solutions out there.

AverMedia USB speaker device is great! Plug and play with my windows PC. Installation (Windows 10 PC): Simple Plug and Play Works with MS Teams, WebEx, Zoom, and Google Meet Operation: Feedback cancellation works great. Volume Control buttons work great. Mute Button easy to use. Great Sound Mic is good Hot key button works and opens web browser. Eahhh.. Not really functional in my opinion. But ok. I think they just wanted to even out the number of buttons to have on the unit for aesthetics. Overall functions great and does what it says. I would recommend this product.

The AVerMedia - USB Conference Speaker Phone is a handy compact device, it hooks up to your system (and is powered) by your USB-A port (with a USB-C port on the device). It easily integrates with video conferencing apps such as Zoom, Skype, WebEx and Teams. I only tested it will Zoom and found the audio to be clear and the microphone easily picking up voices in a small conference. The device has LED lights that indicate volume (1 thru 5 LED), when pressing mute the LEDs turn red. Also there is a mute button (although I did not see the Mute mode in Zoom being able to be controlled through the device). As for the noise canceling it does a good job of handling background noise. I mimicked background noise in my kitchen by using the overhead range exhaust fan (which is very loud), on any of the three settings and getting progressively louder I was able to hear my wife and daughter clear without hearing any background noise, pretty impressive. The "AI" mode which is supposed to limit other type of background noise (AverMedia cites crying babies or barking dogs) seemed to not have much affect. Overall I find this device to be useful, compact and handy for those still working remote or travelling on business. Pros: - compact - does a good job eliminating background noise - no external power needed, sources power from your USB port - on device mute, voiume +/- buttons and a Windows shortcut button Cons: - did not seem to integrate with Zoom controls (mute specifically). - AI mode did not seem to do much, however the overall noise canceling was effective.

I have been searching for a simple cord speaker I could use with my laptop when holding virtual meetings. I have been extremely impressed with the quality of the mic, removal of the background noise and loudness of the speaker. Its simplistic button layout and functionality is perfect for quick easy use. I would strongly recommend this little speaker for anyone who conducts virtual meetings on the go!

We use zoom 3 times a week at home. With our tablet and TV as a second screen our options for sound and mic are limited. The TV sound is ok. This small unit fits anywhere on your table and can be positioned to be most effective. The AI helps with background noise and the speaker is lacking a little bass. Sound volume is ok. Biggest plus for us is being able to see the red mic when muted. Too many times we talk only to find out we forgot to unmute. Great system, just play and play.

I was expecting more for the price. It's ok if your PC has terrible speakers, but a PC with good speakers will sound better than it does. It doesn't actually seem to do much to prevent echo or from it picking up sound coming from its own speaker. The AI button doesn't seem to do much either. I sit in Zoom meetings 8 hours a day, so it has gotten a lot of use. A headset is better, but less comfortable. If you have a laptop with decent speakers and mic, save yourself the money.

For many of us, working from home has become the new normal, and conference calls via Zoom or Teams have replaced calls over a traditional phone or cell phone. Having a good speaker has suddenly become important, since listening to a long call over the tinny speakers in your laptop is not something you want to do every day. I’ve been using a small Bluetooth speaker with my laptop, and it has worked pretty well, but when I saw the AverMedia speakerphone, I decided to give it a try. I was satisfied with my setup, which also included using the microphone in my webcam, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to try out the AverMedia speakerphone. It turned out to be a pleasant surprise! The unit is well-built and features a thoughtfully angled design in a small-footprint box. Included is a USB-A to USB-C cable, and it should be plenty long for most setups. Nothing else is needed, and it doesn’t even require the installation of a driver. It is truly plug and play, and that is much appreciated. The top of the unit is dominated by the speaker grill, and next to it are 5 touch-sensitive buttons: volume +/-, mute, a hot key, and a button to turn AI noise cancellation on or off. The buttons are very responsive and work flawlessly, and the AI button lights up when in use. The one oddity is the hot-key button, which only works in Windows. The documentation calls it the “browser hot-key”, which means that touching it brings up another instance of your default browser. I’m not sure why this key was included, since I can’t think of a time when I’ve ever been on a call and needed a quick way to bring up another browser window. It would have been better if the key could have been user-assigned, but who knows, maybe this will come in handy. The speaker itself sounds excellent. Sound is full and clear, and I had no issues with any kind of buzzing or sibilance that you might find in a lesser-quality speaker. While I was very impressed with the performance of the speaker, this is also the one area where I was less pleased: volume. For the most part, the speaker was loud enough to overcome most room noise, but even at 100% it’s not a terribly loud speaker. I’m not sure if this is a function of the power supplied by the USB port, but I do wish it were possible to turn it up louder. One unexpected benefit was the mute button. I’m on many conference calls, but especially if it’s not a video call, I may not have the meeting window in the foreground. That means that inevitably someone will ask me a question and I’ll be fumbling around trying to unmute. With a dedicated mute button on the unit, I was easily able to mute and unmute without ever having to locate the meeting window. That certainly cuts down on the number of times I had to say “sorry, I was on mute”. People on the other end of my calls had no trouble hearing me, even when there was some background noise on my end. I didn’t have enough noise to really be able to put the AI noise cancellation feature to work, but it seems to do its job. The AverMedia speakerphone does its job and does it well. This is another one of those devices that I didn’t know I needed until I had it. It has already become a core part of my telecommuting toolkit!

Good Mic “speakerphone” for those Zoom meetings!

Like everyone else I have been doing a lot of Zoom “calls” for the last year. I started out using the mic integrated into my webcam and my computer’s speakers and that was ok. The AVerMedia USB Conference Speakerphone is light years beyond that setup. In terms of design this device is a very nondescript sloped black block with a couple of subtle lights, and a fabric speaker front. To me this is the perfect simple design esthetic I want for my workspace, and it blends right in. This design also has the added upside of being very unobtrusive when place on a podium or tabletop to pick up speakers in a “hybrid” meeting setting. Rather than having another obvious usb mic plugged into a computer and on a stand with the in-room PA mic, or resorting to a more complicated mic-mixer-pc connection, I can plop this little box down and get great audio clarity. The buttons have an extremely universal look to them with mic mute, volume and the “launch” button being very recognizable. The AI button is also very clearly recognizable. I haven’t thought of a scenario where I would want to shut off the AI sound filtering system, so I think that AVerMedia included it so that people were reminded that they had added this neat new feature to their speakerphone! The volume level and mute status is clearly indicated by a simple row of blue/red dots which again provides a very intuitive way to quickly determine the settings. Testing the mic’s operation I found that on my desk or on a podium with a standing individual speaking the audio captured was exceptionally clear with the AI engaged and only slightly less crisp in a more noisy setting (background machinery noises) without the AI setting on. With or without AI I did not notice any issues with echo effect when using in room speakers instead of the integrated speaker with a live mic on the speakerphone and a PA in operation. I tested the specifications that the mic pickup is 360 degree and can pick up clearly out to 9.8 feet. I found that despite the sloped shape of the speakerphone there was no obvious difference in the audio pickup from even directly “behind” the module, and I was able to capture normal speaking voice levels well beyond 10 feet, though at reducing levels obviously. The 360 degree pickup is a particular asset when using this speakerphone in a boardroom/small meeting setting, and the audio was at least as good as I can get from a classic multiple mic analog speakerphone we frequently employ. This speakerphone also comes with a nice lengthy USB to USB-C cable which allows you to place the speakerphone in the center of a good sized boardroom table for meetings. The one shortcoming I found in my testing of this speakerphone was the speaker output. When using this speakerphone at my desk at comfortable volume levels for Zoom calls the audio was crisp and clear. However, when set up in a larger meeting setting where multiple users are listening in, the speaker struggled a bit with buzzing at higher volume. At max volume there is a very noticeable speaker vibration that makes it less than ideal for larger group use. Still, I feel that the actual intent of the speaker is for use by one person that may want or need to move around, limiting the necessity for higher volume. Most people also have access to larger speakers attached to their PC as well if they need more sheer volume. For in-office zoom calls I found the integrated speaker perfect for my use, so I guess it would depend on your individual usage. In summary, I like this speakerphone and it is now my go-to for my own office use, and I intend to employ it for our facilities “hybrid” meetings as well as the presenter audio component where its assents of low profile and excellent audio capture can be maximized. For use in larger boardroom meeting I will probably use a secondary speaker and only use the mic component of this system.

I was unfamiliar with this particular brand and as with most consumers thought maybe that would mean the product was not as good as a "Name brand" manufactures. I have and use a competitors like version of a PC speaker phone. I only add the PC part because I think just saying "Speaker Phone" would lead someone to infer that the device could be used with a land line and or cell phone. I honestly do not know if it could, but the actual use would be in conjunction with a USB enabled device such as a PC. Out of the box setup was plug and play simple. I was at once impressed with the small and thoughtful attention in the design. The top has a soft mesh speaker cover material and the bottom is rubberized for anti-slide. The appearance reminds me of an old looking but clearly new LP turntable. Like that of one you find at the one friend's house who always says "It sounds so much better on vinyl” but does normally have a keen ear and equally keen equipment. The device delivers just that, and your friend would be satisfied. The AI canceling feature is super sleek and works as advertised. Even in a noisy office, I was able to take part in Team’s meetings without issue and or the need to mute. Side note, if you use Teams you might have to change the audio setting within the app to the AS311, but you must do that with anything other than your PC speaker in Teams sometimes. I will say that if the so-called background noise was within about ten feet, then the unit did struggle a bit weeding out voices as opposed to noisy background chatter. That said though, I have a competitor's brand right in the same price range and it does not reduce any of the background noise and it forces me to live on mute. My final thought is, the AVerMedia AS311 beats my other name brand unit by a mile. I also investigated the AVerMedia brand a bit and found that they make a wide variety of very specific high-end media visual, audio, and capture products. I highly recommend checking out some of their other items too, very COOL stuff!

    End of Embarrassments

AVerMedia USB Conference Speaker Phone Working from home has gained forced popularity since the beginning of COVID19 and with that, most people who didn’t have a home office before have learned that a headphone quickly becomes a hassle. And for those who have used speakerphone, the realization that every sound around the house, be it from kids or pets, is shared with people on the other side of the conference call is often embarrassing. Thankfully, there are solutions out there and the AVerMedia Speaker Phone has clearly proven to be one of the best. At least to me, it has. Although I was not too impressed by the audio quality, which was not bad for the size but also not as good as another one I have, the blocking of background noise, even loud ones, was remarkable. And the fact that the Artificial Intelligence (AI) that makes this possible is built right into the device guarantees that the same great performance is available for any computer, even the not-so-powerful ones. My experience was great with different laptops and desktops, mostly using MS Teams and WebEx. No extra software to install. The buttons are great because you don’t need to do anything on your computer. Very intuitive and the visual feedback is wonderful because it will show you whether you are on mute or not, saving you from embarrassments. They just need to fix an issue with the browser shortcut button as it closes what you already have open before bringing the default browser. The only major issue I found was that if the environment is too noisy, the remote party may have a hard time understanding you. I’m not sure if it is an issue with the mic or the AI working too hard to keep background noise away. All in all, I would recommend this speakerphone for a single user. The minor issues are not that bad and the only major one is not a deal breaker. Overall, performance is very good.

This is a great speaker for conferencing. I was able to hear those in the meeting much clearer than I had in the past using the speakers on my laptop. Those who were in the meeting said I sounded clearer than I had when I used the built in default mic on my laptop. The buttons to adjust the volume levels and to mute/unmute are large and easy to press. Setup was easy and simple. It was just plug and play, and no need to install any 3rd party software.

Opening the AVerMedia AI Speakerphone and I find the unit, a USBc to USB A cord and the manual. I grab the nearest laptop, which is a Chromebook, and plug it in. I open the Zoom app and the OS and app already have the input/output sound connected to the AVerMedia unit. The sound is good, and the AI seems to work. I have the unit sitting on my entertainment unit and I bang on the cabinet. The unit doesn’t register the noise, nor does it pick up a whistle, but it does send my hands clap or my jaw crack. So hit or miss on the AI, but blocking some sounds is still helpful. While waiting for someone to connect to, I go to an online mic test page and make sure the mic is working. Yes, it is, and the playback sounds nice and clear. So, this was on my Chromebook, fully updated and I switch to Windows 10 and then my Mac Mini, both fully updated. In fact, the Windows PC has the Windows Insiders latest beta, and all is well on those machines too. All 3 operating systems were plug and play. I did check the sound properties in each as I have several audio choices plugged into each one. They all defaulted to the AVerMedia unit and once unplugged, went back to my regular choice. Nice. Overall, I’m impressed with this speakerphone. I don’t use one very often, but a change in careers makes interviewing over Zoom better and I may find myself down the road using it more often.
