Novel Idea for people who like to use the grill

I Had to wait awhile before putting my review up to test a few different things.
Overall i like the concept and making pizza in this is pretty easy. one draw back is having a large enough grill to use it on and if you don't want to heat up your whole home during the summer by using the over the over one.
I have not tried making other items in it but pizzas come up just the right amount of crust not to soft or to tough. After a few tries to get the heat right. Once you do follow the directions pretty close but you may have to watch your heat if you have a very large grill as mine tends to heat pretty fast.
Like I said pretty novel idea and avoids having to heat up the house in the summer when you want pizza.
Next i will try home made pizza and update my review

Great for a patio pizza party

After hearing about the BakerStone oven, the first thing I noticed about the item was the weight (28 lbs). After unpacking it and reading the directions on how to use it, we planned our first pizza party this weekend. Over the years, I've cooked pizza on the grill (right on the grill). It was great pizza, but it I had to watch the dough closely so it wouldn't burn. With the BakerStone, you can now have that great grilled pizza taste by way of an even surface for a consistent heat.
The first couple of pizzas took a little practice to figure out how to rotate the pizza and determine when it was done. We quickly got the hang of it and the rest of the pizzas that night were great. Pizza parties are great for both kids and adults as everyone can make their own pizza with the toppings they want. It doesn't matter that you don't all eat together - it's just part of the fun. We find that extra wine comes in handy as we cooked one pizza after another.
The downside of the BakerStone is the weight and how you store it. For now, we're going to keep it on the grill and just take it off the grill for when we grill burgers, steaks or other non-pizza dinners.
I'd say the product delivers as promised.

Love this BakerStone Oven Pizza Kit for making pizza! This is a great option that allows you to make homemade pizza in the hot summer without heating up the house with the oven. It definitely takes practice though and the instructions aren't entirely helpful.
The instructions say to "dust" the pizza peel with flour. That's the large wooden spatula that comes in this kit. However, if you're using fresh dough from the store or a bakery, it will be somewhat sticky. You don't need to "dust" the pizza peel with flour, you need to cover it in flour and then add cornmeal for good measure. Even with that, you'll still have to very carefully use the metal spatula that came with the kit to get the pizza in to the oven. After about 30 seconds, you can easily move the pizza inside the oven, but getting it in is tough.
Couple of tips:
1) use flatbread if possible or a pre-made pizza crust that is partially frozen. The instructions say to "launch" the pizza into the oven, but when it's fresh dough, it's too sticky for that to work,
2) If you're using fresh dough, make the pizzas smaller. The oven can handle up to a 14" pizza but you won't be able to get it off the peel unless you followed step 1. With fresh dough, forget it. The smaller the pie is the better it will slide off.
3) The instructions say 4-5 minutes to cook but just watch it closely. I found that mine took about 7-8 min to be fully cooked.
We made 5 pizzas, and the first two were a little rough, but the last 3 were awesome. The first one was too big, the second was too thick. The last 3 were smaller and thinner, and we loaded up the peel with cornmeal and flour for those.
The oven itself is well built, but it does take some effort to put together and un-box. This wasn't something I expected so be prepared to do some work and assemble the oven. It also uses a lot of propane. I have a 3 burner Weber Spirit grill and it took about 25 minutes to get the oven preheated to the temperature to cook pizza. I had to leave the burners on full blast to keep it at temperature. Essentially, the grill was on full blast for 45-60 minutes. I had a fresh tank and it used about 25% of it for the pizzas.
Overall, this is a really cool item if you like making homemade pizza and don't want to heat up the house while doing it. Your best bet is to get the flatbread type of pizzas or the ones that pre-made and have a little bit of rigidity to them. If you use fresh dough to make the pizzas, be prepared for some challenges in transferring it from the peel to the oven.
I do love this oven and look forward to using it for other things such as cookies and bread. It's got a lot of potential and works very well once you get the hang of it. I highly recommend this to anyone.

I think its a great concept. I know most of you having homes have a grill and even though you may not use it often, its become a prestige thing, you just need to have it on your deck. So, I am not bing into meat eating so my grill is totally rusting away. Then, i got this to make some pizzas.
Once i got my friends and organized a make your own pizza party, got some dough from the local pizzaria and other ingredients like the tomato sauce, cheese toppings etc and had everyone make their own pizza, it was a lot of fun! I think this thing adds a fun value as well to it since you are doing this outdoor.
Love the product!! 5 star!!

Just a novelty

This can be a fun family experience where everyone is sitting around making their own pizzas but the novelty of the product wears off quick. I had a hard time getting pizzas to cook correctly. The middles kept coming out doughy and I'd end up burning the edges to get it cooked. I tried lower temperatures, thinner crusts, and less topping and still had issues. I think the convection part of the oven doesn't work that well. I wouldn't get this item if you were wanting a practical solution to making quick pizzas. Also the stones seem extremely delicate with no protection on the bottom when storing. And it's almost impossible to not get grease on the stones when cooking the pizzas.
