Great Upgrade to my Simple Touch

So far so good. It has a backlit screen for reading at night andpoor lit areas. It is fast. It can take up to a 32GB micro SD memory card, wi-fi b/g/n, and the battery lasts a very long time even with the light going. I have no complaints. I do recommend getting a cover though. I hear there is an issue with the screen cracking? But maybe get the extended warranty on it and if it happens, you will be covered.

    DO NOT BUY

I have changed my review of this product from 5 stars to 0 stars. I was in love with this thing at one point in time. However, it has a horrible defect that I just cannot live with. If you sideload your books (add your own books to a memory card instead of purchasing from Barnes and Noble), everytime you turn the device completely off and on (like in the event of it freezing, like mine's has done more than once) all of your shelves (like collections on Kindle) will erase. Disappear, your shelves are empty. It also happens if you disconnect your Nook from your Macbook the wrong way. As a person with around 800 sideloaded books, this is completely unacceptable. I need the organization. As a girl with Aspergers Syndrome, I REALLY need the organization. I even contacted Barnes and Noble's customer service online, but their reply was practically calling me a liar. "Thanks for contacting us....Shelves only erase if you reset the Nook or deregister the device....Thank you, Goodbye!" Really, how are you going to ignore a problem that I can replicate on demand?! A quick Google search will show that I am not the only one, and others are having the exact same issue. So to recap, Barnes and Noble only gives you 250mb (yes, that's megabytes) of storage on the device for your own books. The rest of the space is reserved for Barnes and Noble purchases. I was okay with this because you can add your own MicroSD card up to 32GB (WAY overkill for books lol) for storage. But Barnes and Noble has gimped this feature with this horrible glitch and refuses to fix it or even acknowledge that it even exists! It seems to me that they have found another way to force you to buy books from them instead of other sources. Isn't that a little sneaky?! Barnes and Noble has horrible customer service, so if you are used to Amazon's amazing service stay away from this company. It is (or was) my favorite bookstore and I used to visit and purchase items weekly (it smells wonderful in there!). I should have frequented Borders more, so they wouldn't have gone out of business here in the South. (Yes, I'm saying I have the purchasing power to save a whole franchise. Just joking :-) It's no wonder Barnes and Nobles are closing all around me, shouldn't you try to please the customer and not call them a liar, so they'll come back? (RIP, I'll still miss them even though I'm upset right now. I just really love bookstores and books). Now it has developed the infamous light hole. (Google it, or better yet, look at Barnes and Noble's official site).

Just got this Saturday and absolutely love. Had the original Nook which I loved. This one has quicker start up and is extremely easy to use. Best of all was all my books from my B & N account automatically moved to my library on this Nook. Would highly recommend.

    Great Unit, BUT!

Read the reviews on the Barnes and Noble site before you make a purchase. The back screen could develop a small tear allowing the GlowLight to shine through. I did not purchase the Best Buy extra warranty and the crack Geek Squad claimed I dropped something on the unit so they would do nothing for me. I tried to explain to them about this known issue and they did not care. Not so great customer service, Best Buy! I took the unit to Barnes and Noble and they exchanged the unit on the spot with an apology. Great, Customer Service B&N.

Great for the first year, downhill after

I really loved my Nook Glowlight. I used it every single day for at least an hour, usually much more, with no problems. Then, one morning, I reached over to pick up my Nook - and the screen was half-filled with lines. I tried resetting it, turning it off and on again, letting the battery drain and recharging it. Nothing worked. So, now, I am without an e-reader, as no one can fix my Nook. From research online, this seems to be a very common problem, and i was lucky that mine lasted as long as it did. Buyer be aware.

I love my regular nook, but the one thing that always bothered me was having to attach a light of some sort to it. Well this solves the one problem I had left. Great device.

    Best eReader I've had

    Posted .

I've had this eReader for about two months. I am amazed at the content available on it and the ease of use. The glow light is great for reading in bed, but won't disturb your wife/husband. Very easy to read while outside, unlike the kindle fire or ipad. I charged it initially and have not had to charge it again yet = amazing battery life! It comes with 2gb built in, which is more than enough space, but if you want to go crazy it has an SD slot available. A great eReader for book lovers.

My wife just loves this. Was real excited to get it. Backlight is a good feature, price was great. She likes that she could sync it with her phone.

Disappointed in glare from LEDs at top of screen

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The glare from the LEDs at top of screen makes it harder to read the screen, they should have been recessed further from the edge of the screen. The print is faded and washed out even with the GlowLight off, that is a big difference between the Simple Touch and the Simple Touch with GlowLight. This is probably due to the "Built-in anti-glare screen protector". That is why I never installed a screen protector on my older Simple Touch; I keep it in a NOOK cover for protection instead. I wonder if the "Built-in anti-glare screen protector" can be removed, or if it is required for the GlowLight feature?

    Great Ergonomics, Unaddressed Screen Defect

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

After owning several Kindles, I decided to take a spin with a NOOK because I really liked the "Home" button. I read many reviews about issues with the screen, but honestly thought they were a small minority of owners that were hyper-reacting. Now that I've had my NOOK Simple Touch with Glowlight for a whopping 3 days, I turned it on tonight to read, and lo and behold, a small tear about 1 cm has mysteriously formed under the surface of the display. This unit has been treated gingerly and hardly used in 72 hours, so it can't be from physical abuse. A quick glance at the screen surface reveals no mistreatment to cause such a glaring defect. As it stands, I'm returning mine to BestBuy for a refund. I've read too many stories about multiple exchanges and don't see the need for any self-torture. So far, B&N's response has been, "The users must be mistreating the devices. They should buy our special cases." Wow, what corporate arrogance. I'll pass and head over to the Kindle section. Those Paperwhite displays look just as good if not better.

    Fading

I bought this from Barnes and Noble and returned it the next day. I have the Simple Touch and really like it but after charging this Simple Touch Glow up then using it the print is faded and washed out, there is a big difference between the simple touch and the simple touch glow. I took it back to Barnes and Noble and they said that was normal due to the anti glare screen on the new Glow. The light on this is great but its not worth the sacrifice of the ink display.

Screen Issues still not fixed. Doubt will ever be.

I also thought maybe a few people are over-reacting, and also that issue must certainly have been addressed by now. I was wrong, I had mine about a week. It was treated my gingerly than any other piece of electronics I have owned. Yesterday evening the three scratches showed up when I turned on the glow light. It looks distracting. I wonder what it would look like in a year. Back it goes.

The could not be registered as wifi would not connect. can't do anything to fix problem. i read the S/N to Nook Cust serv and they said it was bad and had to be replaced with a Refurb unit. Dumb design as you cannot connect with cable to register unit. don't waste your time on this. returned it. did not get email from Best Buy with free download codes.
