One of my favorite movies from the ‘80s

I realize the ‘89 Batman movie has gotten a lot of criticism in recent years after the release of modern movies like The Dark Knight and Captain America The Winter Soldier. But I still feel that this film was revolutionary and ushered in the era of superhero movies we now enjoy. Whether you like the story or not, I would find it impossible to deny that the design of this film is stunning. And seeing this movie, FINALLY, in crystal clear 4K is the way this movie needs to be seen as it’s never looked so good! Having been shot on film, this movie hugely benefits from the 4K Upgrade in picture, and also in sound! With a great sound system in place, the sound effects and bombastic score by Danny Elfman are just incredible!! I have no problem saying that this is easily the best way to see this movie and it’s worth every cent. The set comes with a 4K disc and a regular blu ray disc that sports all the same special features as previous releases. Unfortunately, this does NOT come with the Diamond Luxe feature “Making Of the Modern Blockbuster” which is a bummer and there are no new features to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the movie or the 80th anniversary of Batman.

Bar none, the finest this movie has ever looked. The 4K is amazing. The standard Blu-ray uses the same transfer from the 4K and is also stunning. Yes, some shots look soft, but that's due to the nature of how those specific shots were assembled 30 years ago. With the exception of one bonus feature, you'll find every previously released feature on the Blu-ray? What's missing? The bonus feature "Batman: Birth of the Modern Blockbuster" from the 25th anniversary Blu-ray. It was on its own separate disc on that release. To be fair, though, it is on the digital edition of the movie. So, assuming one likes digital releases and this 4K still comes packed with a digital copy, it should be easy to obtain a copy of that bonus feature.

    Fantastic 4K Transfer

Having grown up with this film and watching it on VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray, I was supremely excited yet nervous about how the 4K transfer would be handled. Having watched over 100 UHDs, I can honestly say this blew me away! The resolution, WCG, HDR and deep black levels combine to produce an image that was almost unfathomable for a film 30 years old. Also, despite an outpouring of audio purists cries regarding the upgraded Atmos soundtrack, I was absolutely floored by it- and in a positive way. The height channels are used effectively, and the bat plane crash is absolutely insane! All told, this is one of my Top 5 favorite UHDs and I would almost be willing to buy it twice just as a token of thanks for such a magnificent job handling one of my all-time favorite movies.

Warner brothers, though with some occasional missteps, is typically in the upper echelon of studios when it comes to taking care of their back catalogue with various remasters and such. The new 4K UHD of the '89 BATMAN is no exception, with an excellent new video transfer that takes away the warm tint of VHS and DVD era masters, and makes the film look like it does on 35mm. The new atmos mix brings new life as well, as they've finally been able to "finish" the sound mix. Originally they rushed and had to use already created fx from Aliens and other projects instead of creating their own sound for the film.

Tim Burton directed, Jack Nicholson as Joker, Michael Keaton as the bat, and a great onsemble cast at the time the movie was released. The movie has a comic book feel to it, but with a graphic novel type movie feel. It is true to the comic books, but does take some liberties. With one major twist that I will not disclose in order to not ruining the plot. I love The Dark Knight movies by Christopher Nolan. That being said I thoroughly enjoyed watching this at the movie theater when it came out back in the day. It is a stand alone great movie tribute to the Batman back then. Still great to watch today. Has stood the test of time.

    Classic Tim Burton

Since the release of The Dark Knight and Heath Ledger's legendary portrayal of the Joker we seem to forget where Batman really started. For the time period Jack Nicholson's Joker was very dark in it's own right. He was clever and comedic and just like Ledger, Nicholson makes this 1988 Batman film. The Dark Knight is my favorite movie all time but sometimes it's fun to refer back to our origins!

There have been many Batman movies and television shows, but the Tim Burton/Michael Keaton classic is for sure one of my faves! No one does Batman as dark and noir as Burton and I grew up watching Michael Keaton play Batman in this film and Batman Returns. I wish he had done more movies in this franchise. Still, this movie is exceptional. The only thing— when I made this purchase, it was for the blu-ray and digital. The digital code was smeared upon peeling the sticker so I was not able to redeem. That’s the only upset with this purchase.

Warner Bros has provided Batman fans here with a remastered 4K UHD and Blu-ray and it looks superb. The video quality is insane, with excellent colors and as close to a 35mm print as possible. The audio has been updated with a new Dolby ATMOS mix, which also sounds amazing. The only takeaway is that WB didn't include the original theatrical sound mix as a secondary option - instead we get another ATMOS downmix, which is silly and redundant. All of the special features are included on the Blu-ray so that's a plus. The 4K UHD is intelligently used for pure quality bitrate of both video and audio - but the Blu-ray looks great as well. Package includes a digital copy code for steaming on the go, but the real quality is in the disc's. Trust me. This is worth buying. If you're a Batman fan, you should enjoy this very much. I love it and am happy to have this in my collection.

Synopsis: After a young boy witnesses his parents' murder on the streets of Gotham City, he grows up to become the Batman, a mysterious figure in the eyes of Gotham's citizens, who takes crime-fighting into his own hands. He first emerges out of the shadows when the Joker appears - a horribly disfigured individual who is out for revenge on his former employer and generally likes to have a good time, but the identity of the `bat' is unknown. Perhaps millionaire Bruce Wayne and photographer Vicki Vale have a good chance of finding out?

This is the best I have ever seen this movie! The 4K remastering of Batman 1989 is absolutely fantastic! It looks like it was made today. I was just amazed at the resolution and the sharpness and HDR Colors just pop off the screen, especially the Joker's makeup. I bought Batman five days ago and have watched it several times. Just excellent. You won't be able to take your eyes off of it as you watch. Highly recommended!!!! Can't wait to buy the other Batman movies that just came out in 4K.

I know there was two or three more Batman’s before this one, but Michael Keaton just nails it as Bruce Wayne and the Batman! His acting game is A+! Mmmmmm I wouldn’t recomend to show this to the little ones as of some scenes might be confusing and frightening. Jack Nicholson is also amazing and nuts as the joker! This movie just brings everything to the table. I’d you already own this pick it up again on 4k! Looks amazing and colors are more vibrant

The remastering of this movies makes all the difference in the world. Incredible details on an older film like this brings details out that were buried in darkness on the standard bluray. Definitely worth having!

The old Batman movies like this one and Returns have excellent cinematography. They are unique in their own way compared to the newer trilogy. But both series are excellent and the 5 are the only really good cinematography movies in the entire comic genre. Both series also have unique soundtracks as well that are the best within the genre. Usually comic book movies border on the ridiculous side of things but Batman tends to be more realistic since the character is not given super powers that are begging for computer graphics. So that said, the first movie from 89 really showed what a comic book movie could be if put in a more gritty realistic setting with no computer effects, that is, a really good movie with seriousness involved. Compare to the newer trilogy, this one has been outclassed but it is still very much superior to every other comic book movie out there today. Do yourself a favor and buy this movie and Returns from 1992 and top it off with the newer trilogy. Then your comic book movie collection is complete. Just skip everything else as unless you enjoy corny dialogues, over the top sillyness, and fake looking videogame graphics generated action sequences. Now let's talk about the 'Batazzery' of this movie if you weeyil.

Ecstatic to finally own this movie, especially in 4K. I never got around to getting the VHS, DVD, or Blu-ray. They did a outstanding job on the transfer. It really looked like I was seeing it for the first time, if not better! Michael Keaton was the best Batman, Christian Bale was the best Bruce Wayne. This will tide me over until the SteelBook set comes out in September, which I definitely will be picking up.

Well what can be said only this movie put Superheroes back on the movie Map! We can all thank Tim Burton for all the good & bad superhero movies that have come out since! This movie is what 4K Ultra HD was made for! Michael Keaton's Batman shines like never before! I still think that Jack Nicholson should have won another Oscar award but he was robbed on dry land! With the glut of superhero movies in the past 20 years, it's amazing not only how well this movie has aged but how refreshing it actually is to watch it today. And this 4K release is a marvelous thing of beauty! The picture clarity and gorgeous blacks and colors makes you almost feel like you are watching a new movie instead of a 30 year old film. Sound quality is also incredible.
