For fans thinking they are being 'double dipped' by this DC Universe Animated Original Movie 'Deluxe Edition' release of 'BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS,' think again. You only need look at what you are getting for your money to realize Warner Bros. animation is offering up a totally new 'viewing experience' for this groundbreaking animated achievement, along with phenomenal new extras well worth the investment. The full-length, uninterrupted version of the film clocks in at 2 hours and 29 minutes. That makes this uninterrupted viewing experience the closest fans will get to a Christopher Nolan 'Batman' film, perhaps, for the last time ever. The fact that the entire version features a crew commentary track exclusive to this 'full-cut' means that fans get a creative perspective on the film as a whole. Had commentary tracks been recorded and released on each of the separate 'Part 1' and 'Part 2' releases, they would have inhibited the creators from discussing their overall approach to the creation, acting, directing, writing, and production work that went into the entire epic film, as each commentary would have focused exclusively on either 'Part 1' or 'Part 2.' Fans hear what it was like to tackle a a 2 and 1/2 hour animated film. The creative efforts that went into this project were phenomenal, expensive, and unprecedented for the DCUAOM team. This is a film that Warner Bros. Animation gave a high budget to and lost a significant amount of money on. The total gross for both 'Parts 1' and '2' was less than 5 million dollars. DCUAOMs used to gross 5 million PER TITLE, minimum. The inclusion of a 70 minute Frank Miller documentary focused on the creation of the graphic novel itself is the type of bonus material the DCUAOMs have virtually never included. Miller is notoriously 'tight-lipped' about his creations, and particularly, this historic graphic novel. The fact the documentary includes extensive new interview footage with Miller makes it the definitive documentary of the book - one of the most important graphic novels ever written. The carry-over of all bonus materials from the separately released 'Parts 1 & 2' is, of course, obligatory. Many fans, though, will enjoy the 4 exclusive collector cards included in the set which will feature never before seen artwork. Given the fact the graphic novel itself has seen various special anniversary, hard-cover and limited release editions, it seems perfect that the animated version is getting this treatment. Kudos to Warner Bros. Home Video for taking a second chance on this title by giving it to fans in a format they really wanted it in, including a comprehensive NEW commentary track, and a 70 minute definitive documentary on Frank Miller and the Graphic Novel itself. Given the low sales of the original releases, this might turn out to be another 'break-even' release for the division. And, if that's the case, it's the fans who will end-up being the sole winners yet again.

Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, was an accomplishment when it was released. After years of being read, and re-read, it has finally been adapted into a feature film; a great feature film. Normally, I prefer Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman, but Peter Weller does an amazing job here as the Dark Knight of Miller's universe. The animation to unparalleled and the rest of the cast is a wonder to behold. Buy this product, you won't be disappointed.

This is a really good movie. Plus, there is an awesome fight scene in it with Batman vs Superman. ...Another good animated movie that you should also watch is 'Superman: Doomsday'. ...NOTE: If you're planning on watching 'Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice', I recommend watching both of the above mentioned animated movies, otherwise you WILL be somewhat confused about the background story, which the real movie left out.

The Dark Knight Returns was such an epic comic book story, I was skeptical when I read that WB animation was making a film adaptation. It was originally released in two chapters, on two separate blu-rays. This version is the complete film seamlessly pieced together and was the version I was anticipating. You won't be disappointed.

The audio mix is fantastic. Picture quality is crisp and refined. Story is definitive batman content that is well thought out and is intricately crafted. But the best thing above all is the special features. If you are a fan of the Batman or just a causal movie watcher, this is the way to experience it

This is one of those Batman stories that will never get old. Christopher Nolan and Zack Synder both got their inspirations from this Batman arc. Once you watch it, you will see a lot of noticeable scenes that were in The Dark Knight trilogy and Batman v Superman.

My kids tried watching but it was too dark and slow going for them and they didn't get to see Batman in full costume as often as they would have liked. It's more for adult in my opinion but a well thought out movie of Batman in his later years.

A must buy for Batman fans and definitely for those that have read the boom. The animated film is pretty faithful to the book and even if you haven't read the book will enjoy this film as it includes both films now combined as one.

I bought this being a Batman fan and having read the comic this was based off of I had further reason to want to own this knowing they were basing the Batman V Superman movie on this. You will not be disappointed in purchasing this.

Just wow... A must for Frank Miller fans. True to the comic original story just sans the reading and some internal dialog... and in one package to boot! Only thing lacking is a steel book if you like that kinda thing... which I do.

Frank miller shows us a different perspective and world through his eyes of an older more dark batman and gotham city. A must have to own for any batman fan. No spoilers here but an amazingly fun movie

A great adaptation of s great comic book. Frank Millers batman comes to life before your eyes on this special edition bluray. Jam packed with bonus features you've always wanted!!

Overall, this was a great deal for any Dark Knight fan. It's different than the animated series I grew up with as a kid, but the darker tone will keep older fans interested

I have been wanting to read the comics for this but saw the movie on sale. I bought it and it is truly the best yet on the darknight. I'm currently reading the DK master race.

This animated feature pretty much follows the comic book series written by Frank Miller. If you like your stories dark and redemptive, then this is for you. A great film on an old Batman coming out of retirement and finding ways to reinvent himself as a justice seeker once again.

This is a great movie. I really dig that Frank Miller's version of Batman is on the big screen everybody should watch this if you're a fan of Batman.

Great movie, glad that they combined both part 1 & 2. Just wish that it came with a digital download like most DC animated movies come with.

This is a very good adaption of the original comic. If you want to see a movie version of the Frank Miller comic than definitely grab this version and not the separate 2 disc set. This version includes special features not found on the other sets.

I was really excited when I found out The Dark Knight returns was going to be made into an animated movie. The animation is decent but not great. The story feels a little corny at times but overall this is a good interpretation of the comic book story.
