Mediocre film gets a mediocre disc.

The story is very weak, the cast does a pretty bad job(even though many were veteran actors) and as a whole it's just too long. The transfer is nothing to write home about. The bit rate is too low for a film shot in 70mm, but it doesn't matter much because the actual master is a smeary mess. It looks barely better than a DVD. My recommendation? Get the remastered Patton, Tora! Tora! Tora!, or Lawrence of Arabia Blu-rays if you are looking for some great war films that will make your HDTV shine.
