Two of the best action games Sega/Platinum ever produced. You’ve got an over the top action third person shooter in Vanquish and one of the best character action games in Bayonetta.
Both at a higher resolution and frame rate count versus their last gen counterparts (Bayonetta was okay on the 360 and well the less said about the ps3 version the better, Vanquish was not optimal on either one).

Platform: PlayStation 4Edition: LaunchVerified Purchase
My entire motivation for getting this set was to play a remastered version of Vanquish. Sorry, Bayonetta fans, but after playing Bayonetta on the XBOX 360 and Wii U, I had no desire to play it again.
Vanquish was a somewhat obscure title on the XBOX 360 that stood out primarily because of its unique "sliding" maneuver that aimed to keep combat frenetic and always moving. I had very rose colored memories of playing it on the 360 and jumped at the chance to see it spruced up for the PS4.
I played this on a PS4 Pro. As a rule I do not have my consoles connected to the Internet so my reviews are of the game exactly as it comes on the disc without any patches or DLC or whatnot. (I legitimately don't even know if there were patches or DLC for this game).
The game has a very minimal install size so thankfully you won't have to wait too long to get up and running.
Graphically the game's environments are very well designed and illustrated. The game seems to generally move at 60hz, though the cutscenes seem to drop below that, and there are occasional spots where the game seems to bog down, but nothing all that distracting. It's doubtful it would bother anyone who wasn't specifically looking for it.
Audio design is good, though I did encounter a couple spots where the console had to be reset to fix an audio bug where almost the sound effects from the guns was completely muted and the rest of the audio was muffled.
The narrative for the game was interesting, if a little cheezy in spots with character motivations that take archetypes to extremes and come across as anything from awkward to surreal. Very reminiscent of the Gundam Wing anime in that the majority of the backdrop is a space colony and the bulk of the story is heavily focused on a fictitious political and philosophical conundrum.
The action, pathing and pacing are very reminiscent of Halo or Gears of War where you traverse the battlefield from area to area, and each area functions as its own little arena with ammo, cover and weapons arranged to force you to think and strategize your approach. I found it so similar to Halo that I think it's fair to say this is exactly what Halo would have been like had it been develolped by a Japanese studio rather than a western one.
The sliding and time dilation mechanics definitely let you ride that edge between frantic and chaotic sometimes giving you and edge, and others acting almost like a handicap since your shield recharge is directly tied to your use of the energy required to perform the slide.
There are a small variety of weapons, of which you can equip a maximum of 3 at a time. As you play through the game enemies will drop upgrade boxes which can be used to incrementally improve the weapons, but similar to a shmup, if you get killed you start to lose upgrades and have to collect them all over again. This can turn some of the more challenging areas of the game into a downward spiral making them harder and harder to survive each time you fail an attempt.
The controls were very well balanced, and the aim assist never felt too intrusive.
Overall Vanquish was the same rose colored experience I remembered from 10 years ago, but a good portion of the reason that I didn't recall much from my original playthrough was the fact that the game is so short (4-5 hours) and (if you're really sensitive about partial spoilers , skip the rest of this paragraph) ends on a strangely unsatisfying note. I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger, but it definitely did not feel like closure or resolution.
Vanquish Remaster Pros:
- 1080p
- 60fps (mostly)
- tight controls
- cool backdrops and challenging gameplay
Cons
- audio bugs
- too short

These two titles from Platinum Games' early years still hold up well due to their excellent gameplay and fast, frantic action. Resolution and framerate have been vastly improved for the PS4 in this release to make it look its best yet.

Platinum Games is a studio that when they're attached to any kind of product I automatically take notice. Not nearly as common as I'd like it to be with most modern studios but they've typically been on top of things.
Bayonetta doesn't really need much of an introduction considering it helped set an even higher mark for action games last generation on the Xbox 360 and PS3 but then you have it running far smoother, looking even nicer and bundled it with Vanquish? Only one of the better 3rd person shooters to come out that seemingly gets absolutely no attention despite deserving every bit of it, hard to argue with this pack.

This is a nice collection of remasters although there is no extra content. Most of the technical issues are gone from the original releases. Bayonetta is excellent and Vanquish is definitely underrated. If only we could get Bayonetta 2 on Playstation...maybe it will happen with Bayoneeta 3 releasing not to far from now.

If either of these games were remastered and released on their own, buying either one of them would be a a good deal. I would have ended up buying both if them again! Putting both of them together in a bundle makes this an incredible deal. Bayonetta and Vanquish didn't necessarily get the recognition they deserved during thier initial run. The bottom line is this- both of these games will be regarded as classics in the years to come. If you are a gamer, there is no excuse for not having these two games in your collection.

Two great games that still hold-up.
Updated with better frame-rates and improved resolutions. Bayonetta is like a mix between classic God of War and NieR Automata in all the best ways.
It's fast-paced, the combat is deeply satisfying and it oozes style

The Bayonetta and Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle is an exciting get for any Bayonetta fan. If you missed playing Bayonetta on your Playstation console or even went as far as buying a Nintendo Switch because you could play Bayonetta games this game is for you. The enhanced graphics and frame rephresh rates give the game new life, while still maintaining the classic content of Bayonetta. I've never played Vanquished before, but it acts as a nice bonus if you bought the bundle just for Bayonetta like I did. The price alone is worth it just for Bayonetta.

Two of the best action games ever made are now brought into a new generation of systems with updated graphics and smooth framerates. Supporting up to 1440p on enhanced consoles, the games retain a buttery smooth 60fps as well.
Fans of Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry should consider this 2-pack a must-own!

After missing out on these games when they first came out, being able to play them at 60fps and 1080p on current consoles is great. Platinum makes fun games and these are no exceptions. Bayonetta is a crazy, over-the-top hack 'n slash and Vanquish is a crazy 3rd person shooter. Fun times.

I somehow lucked out with this and got the launch edition which comes with a killer steelbook. Bayonetta is a cult classic, and I love it. I picked this up just to have it on physical media. Vanquish is a new game for me and it is amazing! Please check these out!

Great deal for 2 "classic" games, especially on clearance. There's a chance you might get the launch SteelBook copy.
Otherwise, you'll get the standard release in the plastic case.

Both Bayonetta and Vanquish are great games in their own right. If you’re a fan of Hack n Slashes like Devil May Cry, Bayonetta is right up your alley but be warned that it is hard but don’t let that discourage you from playing it. Vanquish is fast paced shooting incarnate and is a lot of fun since you can blaze through enemies and levels with the abilities you get throughout the game. Overall, it’s a great purchase and if you manage to get the steelbook, that’s even better since this game has one of the best looking steelbook I’ve ever seen.
