This is the second pill we had bought within three weeks. The first one charged fine sounded good, then would not charge a second time. So I thought it was defective, only to turn around get the replacement and that one charged twice and would not charge again! Waste of money do not buy them!!

Everything you want, but good sound

If you care about silly things like overall sound quality, you will be sorely disappointed. For an audiophile like me, I do not confuse volume over clarity. This compact speaker pushes out mids hard but very muddy. There are no discernable highs or lows either. Why- because all four speakers are the same size. Tweeters? Bass or sub chamber? Nope. You can't get different frequency ranges out of the same sized speaker and by having four speakers instead of two proves that. I have another external plug in speaker that is clumsy, bulky, without Bluetooth and a mediocre battery life but I'm willing to carry an extra set of batteries and deal with the bulk instead of using the slimmer but horrendously sounding Dr. Dre's Pill. Poor sound quality at any volume is still poor sound quality. One side note is that when there volume is turned up near the maximum, the sound quality does not distort as much as many other similar devices. Essentially the below average sound quality stays below average instead of sounding completely distorted. Beats by Dr. Dre is THE selling point. One thing for certain, this little device gets LOUD. For most people who want more than built in speakers of a smart phone or a portable but speakerless audio device that will fill a decent sized room with sound all around look no further than the Pill. It's very stylish, easy to store, set up and use. The battery life is very good for something this size. Lots of connectivity ports if you're the person who can't figure out your device's Bluetooth. And it's loud. Compare external speakers to other external speakers that are the same size. Reviewers say it sounds amazing compared to their device's built in speakers is paramount to saying french fries taste better with salt. I would NOT spend more than $75 for this, if at all.

I bought this speaker thinking it's was among the best for sound but I was sorely mistaken. At higher volumes it made a horrible cracking noise that just overtook the music that was playing to where you could recognize the music. I returned it for a complete refund and purchased a Sony SRS-X2 and it sounds 10x better than the beats pill did.

Features and volume out weigh lack of low end

I personally feel this speaker get to much undeserved bashing in pro reviews. I had a Bose soundlink mini and returned it for 3 specific reasons. 1) No micro USB charging 2) Had deep low end but sounded very muddy at high volume 3)No speakerphone Now sure the Beats Pill lack a bit in the low end and in my opinion it does not need a lot, just a little bit just to get that slightly fuller sound. I don't need the overdone bass like the bose where my heavy metal sounds like a jumbled mess. With that said I feel this speaker still has a great clear sound and it get impressively loud for its size with minimal distortion. It handles all genres of music well and clear. It is very light and small so is very very portable. The best part of this speaker is its sheer amount of features. It can charge on micro USB so I can use the same charger I bring to work for my phone. It's speaker phone has worked great for me so far. It's main button works flawlessly for me to play/pause, skip forward and back tracks. The best feature in my book is its NFC capability. You can tap 2 pills together once so they can play the same music or twice so they play in stereo with one left channel and the other the right. The reason this is my favorite feature is because I have a Pill XL and they work together as well. Though I would never play them in stereo for obvious reasons it is wonderful to pair them together to play in sync. i had a dinner party and kept the Pill in the dining room and the XL in my family room both playing the same music from 1 phone. Neither were very loud and were just providing background music so the obvious size and power difference between the two didn't matter. It was these features and convenience that made the price worth it to me. Even though some cheaper speakers may sound fuller they did not get as loud and could not pair with my Pill XL(Best $300 Bluetooth speaker by far by the way). This speaker comes packaged well and includes a decent case to protect it from scuffs on the go. It fels solid and built well. If it just had a little(and I mean little) more low end it would be the perfect small bluetooth speaker. A good EQ on the phone can help fill the sound a bit and makes me more than happy with my decision to purchase this over its competitors.
