Great vacuum. It picks up everything including my dog's hair with ease. Replaced and older Dyson Ball. This one is not too light but it's definitely lighter and better than the previous one.

The Bissel SurfaceSense Pet Multi-Surface Vacuum is my first Bissel vacuum. I own Dyson, Shark, Eureka and a Ridgid brands currently. I do lots of home improvement projects, so clean up is a constant theme in my day. That being said, I'll break down all the Pros and Cons of it's features. Pros: The suction on bare floor and carpets is great. The motion of the vac is very smooth, especially on bare floor. I enjoy using it on my laminate floor because it has a bright light that shows all the dust and crumbs easily. I noticed that it also fluffs up the carpet strands very nicely. The front profile of the vac is low enough to easily pass under my cabinets and reach that area that collects crumbs. The cord has a niche to clip on to so the vac does run over its own cord. Small detail, but much appreciated. The cord length is a good length too. I'm able to do my bedroom and master bath without switching outlets. All the attachments sit on the vac and are readily available to use. Not going to a storage closet to dig out the attachment is a plus. There is a crevice attachment that has a built in light. This is a first for me. I've always wished for more light on the hose attachments. (If it had it on all of them, that would be phenomenal. It is only one one though.) The pet turbo eraser attachment is amazing. It is a great at getting lent and hair out. I tried it on my difficult car floor mats, and they look great. It took a couple passes and wala~clean. My other vacs can't do that without dozens upon dozens more passes over the same area. The 2-in-1 Pet Dusting Brush does a really thorough job on lent and hair as well. It is smaller than the pet turbo eraser, so it's more ideal for smaller areas that don't need a motorized cleaning brush. It has rubber teeth along the perimeter that help grab hair and lent. The dirt tank can be completely taken apart for thorough cleaning. This includes the spongy pre-motor filter. This is a big problem for some of my other models. I love all vacs with a dirt tank verses a vacuum bag that needs constant replacing and costs extra money over time. Being able to wash the Pre-motor filter is great on cost savings. It also comes with a second filter for later replacement. The Cons: The stretch hose appears long, but has high tension so the vac will undoubtedly tip if you're not right next to it. I mean super close. Plan for it to tip so it doesn't crash onto you or something valuable by surprise. Some of my other brands (not all) do this too, so it is not just this brand that has that problem. The pet 2-in-1 dusting brush does not change angles. This is a big fail in my opinion. There should be a way to change the angle on the everyday use attachment. My other high end vacs have this capability. The other con to this attachment is that the rubber teeth on the perimeter can leave streaks/scuff marks. I dusted the top of my closed laptop and noticed scratches. I got a wet cloth and they did disappear. It scared me for a minute. This is not ideal for furniture that will show such marks, unless you're willing to dust by hand a second time with a wet cloth. The extension wand is shorter than my other models (measuring about 29 inches long) and causes me to hunch more than I would like. It is about 6 inches shorter than my Shark. I didn't check the Dyson comparison because that one is a super long and marketed with an extended wand reach, so not really apples to apples there. In conclusion, yes it is a fantastic pet hair vacuum. As an overall vac, there are a some drawbacks such as a shorter wand and dust attachment that leaves streaks on certain surfaces, and stays angled in the same position. Based on your needs, it may be the perfect vacuum for you, especially if your nemesis is pet hair.

Great Suction, Important Note About Filters

Please read for important note about the Post Motor Filter which other reviews may have missed. The Bissel SurfaceSense Pet Multi-Surface Vacuum is one of Bissel’s latest upright vacuum offerings. This vacuum is tailored to pet owners with its tangle free roller, air powered attachment, and bag free design. The newest feature is the “SurfaceSense” or automatic roller speed adjustment depending on floor type. This vacuum functions very well but does have some small drawbacks due to the design which I have experienced on other Bissell Uprights. In the Box: - Vacuum - Air powered brush attachment - Scented Pre Motor Filter (Unscented Pre Installed) (Washable) - LED Crevice Tool - Brush - Extension - Post Motor Filter* (See bottom of review) (Not Washable) Usage: Setup requires attaching the handle and suction tube. Please double check your vacuum has the Post Motor filter below the dust canister installed before use. Mine was missing but I obtained one before doing my review. This is an important component to the HEPA claims by Bissell. Without it, your vacuum may be exhausting excessive dust/particles into the air. One design feature I dislike is the location of the power and brush roll control switch being on top of the vacuum itself rather than integrated into the handle. This requires one to bend over slightly to access turning on and off the vacuum and it also means the handle does not have power running to it for attachments or anything else that might be powered like other brands. With that said, it does have an included LED crevice tool. The vacuum is very easy to detach from the base so you can use it in a portable fashion for tight spaces or in situations where you don’t need the base such as stairs. The automatic brush roll speed control works very well for transitioning from carpet to hard surface floors. It slows down and speeds up within a second or two. This vacuum also works very well for area rugs. Usually vacuums like to hold onto them/move them around but this one doesn’t. The brush roll does a good job at keeping hair from tangling within it. The “Pet TurboEraser Tool” works well but I prefer powered hand tools such as those from other brands. Since this vacuum doesn’t have power in the handle, this isn’t possible. Lastly, this vacuum doesn’t flex as far back before picking the head up compared to my other swivel vacuums. It allows for about 70 degrees of bend where as my other vacuums will lay the handle flat without picking the head up for cleaning under tables and such. Pros: - LED Headlights - Suction - “SurfaceSense” Auto Brush Speed (Works well!) - Long Suction Tube Cons: - Power/Brush Switch Location - No Power to Handle for Attachments/Switches/Lights - Materials Feel Somewhat Cheaper - Very Stiff Cord/Cord to Motor Connection on Vac Overall: The SurfaceSense Pet Multi-Surface vacuum is a great option for those shopping more toward the premium price point. It offers great suction power with automatic brush roll speed which I found works very well for mix surface cleaning. I would like to see a little bit more of a premium feel to the handle for this price but otherwise it does the job well. * The “Post Motor Filter” should come pre-installed below the dust canister. This is shown in the instructions as well as on the dust canister itself. My review unit was missing the paper, cartridge type filter (shown in photos) and after reading other reviews, I believe the same for others as well. They have been alerted to the problem and hopefully are working to remedy the packaging issue.

It sounds weird, but we like to vacuum. We have a lot of different kinds of vacuums and we've used many more than we've kept. The Bissell SurfaceSense has got to be one of the most innovative vacuums I've used. It's advertised as a pet vacuum but it has so many great features that anyone who loves a clean house would enjoy this machine. Overview The controls are easy. You have a button for on/off and another button that will turn off the beater bar entirely. Otherwise the machine will automatically switch from carpet to hard floors. What that involves is the beater bar slowing down considerably. It still rotates, but on hard floors the speed is not needed. Actually, my biggest complaint with a lot of vacuums is that when vacuuming hard floors, the beater bar actually makes crumbs fly around a lot more and it makes them more difficult to pick up. This machine works very well on hard floors with the slower beater bar speed. We have a long hair cat and vacuum every day. The suction is really good and it's able to pick up things from deep in the corners. Also, if you find that your vacuum gets harder to push on deep carpet, there's a suction slide switch right on the handle that lets you increase or decrease the amount of suction. Tools All the included tools fit right on board and none of them get in the way of normal use, cords or hoses. The handle is removable from the canister and allows easy connection of the small brush head, the upholstery cleaner or the crevice tool. The brush tool is basic and small enough to fit into a lot of narrow spots. The upholstery head has a spinning beater bar inside that pulls hair and dander off your furniture. It works really well, and if you find that the suction is too much, you can still use the adjustment switch to back it off. The crevice tool is just cool. It actually has an LED at the end of it to light up what you're vacuuming. The light turns on when the tool is connected to the wand. Very welcome idea and it really does light things up well. Normal Vacuuming This is not the lightest vacuum in the world but it is very maneuverable thanks to the swivel joint under the motor. The rear wheels are a little larger than other vacuums and they're made of rubber. This allows you to push with less effort, it's quiet when rolling and doesn't slide on hard floors. The rollers under the brush head are also rubber. The vacuum has plenty of suction and as I mentioned it also has a switch that allows cutting back on the amount of suction. The brush head is about 12 1/2” wide, so it's not too big to get between and around furniture. The dust cup is easy to remove and empty. The internal section comes out easily as well with just a twist. Reinstalling it on the base is easy as well and I never feel like I have to monkey around with it to get it in just the right spot before it snaps in place. One thing I really like about this machine that seems to be a feature from the past, is the bright LED light strip at the front of the brush head. It illuminates everything in front of it very well and lets you see just what you plan to run over. I don't know why more manufacturers don't think this is a necessity anymore, but we really appreciate it. The cord is nice and long and is made out of a ribbed rubber. It's flexible enough but it's could be more so. However it's a lot more flexible than the cords most brands include. Winding up the cord keeps it tight against the canister. It's nice it doesn't go all the way up to the top of the handle where it could get caught on things. There's also a cord clip that can hold the cord on the top cleat, keeping it in reach. It actually holds the cord tight so that it doesn't slip out. Overall This vacuum has a lot of great features that make it our new favorite. The MultiSense technology makes going from carpet to hard floors easy and automatic. Basic, solid buttons make it easy to operate. I like the way all the parts fit together, and they do so easily, no hunting around for the right spot to connect them. The brush head actually looks like it will allow some disassembly to clean the beater bar. I have a few vacuums that don't offer this feature and it's annoying if you can't get to all the parts to clean them. The tools are great and are actually usable. They're all a perfect size and the crevice tool light is really handy. Lastly, there's an included Fabreeze scented filter that not only helps to keep things clean but makes it smell good while doing it. I totally recommend this vacuum for people with pets that need to keep a handle on pet hair, but it's also a really good vacuum in general whether you have a pet or not.

Bissell vacs are decent and good if have dogs

I’ve been using Bissell vacs for more than a decade. And in that time I’ve watched them develop their vacs into even more useful tools while staying as a budget friendly company. Bissell loves to support dogs and they have my support because of that. It does not make me biased but does make me happy that they do this; dogs are a gift from God and they need champions to support them. Anyway this is a decent follow up to the same product of about a year ago maybe. They made improvements to it, such as the auto roller bar mode. Very helpful and appreciated. I have multi floor surfaces all through the house and constantly switching on and off was getting old. This is a nice fix. The other fix I noticed was the access to the belt and roller bar. Now uses a coin versus my electric screwdriver. That’s a nice improvement. It cleans as well as you’d expect from a Bissell. The washable filter and easy to empty tank are nice. And the fact all tools for onboard is super nice. No more searching for tools when needed. The crevice tool has an LED light run off a battery but knows to come on when being used, very clever. Some things I’d like to see are a powered stair/upholstery brush and a powered led versus batteries. But one of the bigger smaller improvements would be to include a pack of roller bar belts. Last one only lasted about a year. Since I’ve had vacs that lasted for years and never needed a new belt, it makes me a bit concerned why the previous model needed one after a year. They do include one additional reusable and washable filter and could easily include a pack of belts. When you need them you need them, and I had to order and wait for them to come and could not finish vacuuming until they came. Bissell has provided a vacuum that works in a pet environment. With two long haired dogs, it’s needed and appreciated in my house. Even if no pets, would be a good vacuum for anyone. And I know bissell vacs last, albeit with new roller bar belts, filters, and some hair cutting off the roller bar as it accumulates.

    Great Vacuum for Pet Owners

Our family home is a tough environment for vacuum cleaners and we've tried numerous vacuums from different manufactures. We have a dog, two cats and we're also a family of seven with kids in middle school through college. Our home is also about 3,500 square feet so there are a lot of carpets, wooden flooring etc. to clean. Bissell have designed this vacuum cleaner to handle tough environments like our home and it has impressively stepped up to the task. It is relatively easy to put together and I only really needed to look at the instruction booklet once. There is also a more complete walkthrough of the product available online and you'll find that mentioned on the front cover of the instruction booklet. The vacuum comes with the usual attachments that you'd expect although the one surprise was that one of the tools has a nice little LED light that allows you to see in hard-to-reach spaces. That tool uses some batteries in the tool itself so you'll need to replace those. It might have been nice if the power for the light was built into the vacuum hose but that might add complexity and cost so I'm actually ok with the use of batteries. We've been using the vacuum for about a week now and it has easily handled everything our family has thrown at it. If you have a similar family and home situation, especially with pets, then you might want to consider this as your next vacuum cleaner.

The Bissell Pet Surface-Sense Multi-Surface vacuum is a thing to experience. Unlike any other vacuum I have used (the surface sense technology), it does take a little playing around with to use. Pros: Powerful suction Switch flip for floor types Useful tools Filter and dust container Cons: The cord is an issue The auto feature was tricky at first First, the vacuum features powerful suction. From my area rugs to my hardwood floors, I was seeing dust removed and various edibles that were (somehow) attached to my area rug fibers being swept away. More so, I have three dogs, and a lot of dog hair collects on the floors. The Bissell Pet Surface-Sense Multi-Surface vacuum picked up dog hair well enough to where I did not have to vacuum over the same area more than once. I have multiple area rugs in my home, and there is a handy switch that tells the vacuum to switch suction from a "plush area rug" to a "low pile/hardwood floor" with a simple flick-of-the-switch. One of the useful tools included with this vacuum is the crevice tool cleaner. The crevice tool is intended to get in between small areas and the surface/edges of your baseboards. I found that I use this tool more than anything else on the vacuum, as I have a lot of areas in-between furniture and my floors. The tool features an LED light on it as well, so you can see what you are vacuuming up. Additionally, a Febreze air filter was included with the vacuum. I installed it and noticed that when vacuuming my high-pile area rug, it left a pleasant smell in the air (this is welcoming since I have three dogs, and they stink up the house). The dust container was easy to take off and empty outside. However, hair does cling and wrap around the inside filter (which can be a pain to remove). But this allows the dust chamber to accept more particles and things before you have to empty it. There are a few cons to this vacuum, unfortunately. One of them is cord placement. The cord itself is connected to the vacuum's motor almost underneath the vacuum. When you are vacuuming, unless you are used to the vacuum, be careful not to run over the cord (due to its low profile). The cord is in an odd place, and you could potentially run it over because it is close to the rear wheels. Now, the second con is the auto-on roller function. If you turn this off, your roller does almost nothing, and your vacuum appears to not suck anything up off of the floor. When I read the directions (this was confusing), it mentioned turning this off because the vacuum "senses" the floor type and adjusts automatically. Although this is half-true, I would strongly recommend leaving the auto-on roller button on. Overall, The Bissell Pet Surface-Sense Multi-Surface vacuum is easy to use, easy to put together vacuum, with the right tools to clean every surface and piece of furniture you have. Once you understand how the auto-on roller function works, your vacuum will produce terrific results, and all of your pet hair, and dander, will be removed effortlessly from your floors and area rugs. I would recommend this vacuum to anyone who owns pets.

I love this vacuum. Its fairly quiet (for a vacuum), the attachments are super useful. The light on the crevice cleaner is something I didn't even know I needed until I got this! I live in a 750 sq foot apartment and only need to switch outlets once when cleaning my entire home. Its super nice for places like mine with both carpet and vinyl flooring. I used it to clean a vintage sofa and it sucked out all the old musty smells (with the help of some baking soda). It is fairly easy to clean as well.

The best pet hair solution I've tried

As an owner of long haired dogs for decades, I've owned a number of so called "pet vacuums" from various manufacturers, some of which are basically no different than a standard canister vac. The Bissell is a great contender in this arena. It's a bit smaller & lighter than previous models I've owned, but that doesn't mean it gives anything up in terms of suction power & cleaning ability. One of the features that sets this machine apart is the "auto sense" function. This eases the transition from carpeting to hard floor/tile by adjusting the beater bar to slow up and act more like a whisk brush rather than a high speed scrubber. It's perfect in my environment going from a carpeted living room to a wood floor dining room and a tiled kitchen. The Turbo Eraser (upholstery tool) is a great little tool for getting into corners or tight areas to get those dust bunnies. It's main function for me though is to give an extra bit of scrub power to sofas, pet mattresses or any other place you can't get the vacuum itself. One of the nicest features of this vac is how easily the dust bin attaches & reattaches. I've struggled with some other models, not really knowing if you've got it in place, and wondering if you're going to break a clip if you force it. The Bissell got this right, very easy click on & off. The other great feature is how easily the head disassembles to clean the rollers. No matter what the manufacturer's claims are, if you have a long haired animal, some of it is going to wind around the roller. They made this one easy to come apart & clean; no hunting for special tools & screwdrivers. Bravo Bissell! One more upside is the wheel construction. The outer edges of the wheels are rubberized; if you've ever used a plastic wheeled vac on a hard surface floor that slides all over, you'll appreciate how nicely this machine holds its place. The only downside I've seen so far is that the dust compartment capacity is a bit smaller than other similar vacuums. However, its ease of disassembly for cleaning purposes more than makes up for an extra trip to the trash. If you've got long hairs roaming around, this Bissell is worth a look.

We have four dogs (two are German Shepherds) so we needed strong vacuum after our last one died. The reviews for the this one were great and it lived up to expectations. It's very nimble while using it and fits under tight spaces. The attachments all work well and the auto floor level sensing is great! My wife was shocked at how much more dog hair it was picking up compared to our last one. It's the best vacuum we have owned by far.

I have a Crosswave Cordless Max and it's great, but with a dog, foster dog, and two cats there's a lot of fur, litter, and debris from chaos and it's just too much. Coming from a Hoover Windtunnel 2 this vacuum is amazing! It's really easy to adjust the surface with a switch, cleaning is easy, and the assembly was fast with no tools. The vacuum was able to suck up all but the biggest peices of aluminum foil my dog had just gotten into, most of the dog toy fluff, and then most of the squeeky toy he demolished while I was in the kitchen vacuuming. The vacuum is actually pretty quiet too; my usually nervous foster dog was ok with it. The8 only way it could be better is if it had a retractable cord. Pretty satisfied with the deepness of clean on the rug right now and the laminate floors. It's fairly lightweight and easy to manuver and gets under couches and tables.
