Amazing tablet for a first time tablet user

I absolutely love this tablet I do everything with it, I am a first time tablet and blackberry user and I picked up everthing right away on it, in fact I'm currently writing this review with it. I love the keyboard and don't really understand some of the other reviews saying it was difficult or too annoying to find other symbols they're all only a click away. What I love most about it is how many websites you can be on at the same time not to mention how many apps you can run simultaneously and it never slows or lags like a desktop or laptop would. Overall great product would highly recommend I have nothing bad to say about it :D

I love my playbook its because the price is too cheap but i will sure to you its nice and good tablet... The speaker is very loud, HD screen, the battery is great... The only thing i hate here is not too many free apps here... So when it comes to apps, Android is better... But other than that 4 Star for this playbook:)

I have had the playbook for about two weeks and I am impressed with its performance but less impressed with its operating system. The OS 1 is missing native calendar, contacts and tasks apps. All of which made the blackberry stand out as a highly efficient electronic personal assistant are missing from the playbook's repertoire. The playbook's app world selection leaves a lot to be desired especially considering how much more expansive the app world is for the blackberry phone. RIM definitely got ahead of themselves when they made the playbook as it feels unfinished to anyone who is familiar with the company's smartphones. Unfortunately, RIM waited an inordinate amount of time to release the playbook which already put them at a disadvantage. They have not been forthcoming about why the first generation blackberry tablet OS does not feature RIM's signature productivity apps (most notably a native calendar program) which is very frustrating. However, these will supposedly be released in February along with access to the android market in the OS 2 upgrade. On the upside, I have typed this entire review on my playbook so it does have its strong points including an easy to use keyboard and incredible portability with its 7in screen. The ipad and most other tablets have considerably larger screens which render them bulkier when conducting business on the go. One thing that is a little more difficult is that the keyboard does not have arrow buttons so going back in a document can become tedious. However, it supports flash while the ipad does not which adds to its appeal (however it is not currently supported by hulu or netflix which is annoying). Also, its battery lasts for a couple of days with moderate use which I found to be sufficient for my needs. However, it does take a little while to start up after a complete shut down (though it's not as bad as a blackberry phone) so I have taken to putting it to sleep instead when I foresee that I may want to use it again in the near future. For all of its software shortcomings, I would say that the playbook is redeemed by its hardware and internet capabilities to a certain extent and if you can wait until February for the updates then it is definitely worth the reduced starting price of $199.

Best of three - iPad, Android, Playbook

My kids both have iPads, and I just got a Sony S Android tablet and a Blackberry Playbook for Christmas. While the iPad is clearly an exceptional product and easy to use, I'm not personally a big fan of it because it is a bit too simplistic with just pages of rows of icons. That is why I got the Sony S Tablet. I like the Sony tablet and it seems to do everything well, and it seems to be able to get nearly every app that I've heard about for the iPad, so no big loss there. I also like the flexibility to add widgets and customize it more.
Finally, I got the Playbook because it was a great deal with the reduced pricing and because I use a blackberry phone and liked that they could easily sync with each other. However, what I'm finding is that I use the Playbook the most of the three. The interface is unique from the iPad and Android, but it is very intuitive and works exceptionally well as an interface. It's easy t oswitch around between applications and I love the connection with my cell phone. I can see all my mail and calendar much easier given the much larger screen versus my phone and the integration is seemless. I also like that I can get full web access even when I'm remote and it doesn't cost any more than my standard data plan that I had for the phone already. There are clearly less apps for the Playbook than the other two tablets, but there are still a ton of apps to choose from and that list is still growing well (I just looked at data on that in an article), so developers are still doing more and more on it. And, while I couldn't always find the same apps I'd find on the iPad or Android, I could nearly always find very similar ones for the same purpose. Finally, the image quality on the screen is excellent. I like it the best of the three tablets.
So, if you use a Blackberry phone, I highly recommend getting a Playbook to go with it. For what you get and the now reduced current prices, all Blackberry users should have one! Even if you don't have a Blackberry phone, it's a great tablet, but you might not get as much out of it as a Blackberry user would.

I'm new to the tablet phenomenom. I was seriously considering the Ipad2 until I heard about the Blackberry Playbook. I am a Blackberry phone owner. The feature that disappointed me on the Ipad2 is the one that sold me on the Playbook. The ability to sync/tether the tablet with my phone. I don't need a second data plan with the Playbook. Love the fact that when I don't have a wi-fi connection I can surf the web with BB Bridge/bluetooth. While it doesn't have as many apps as the Ipad I'm happy with what is offered. I can wait. There are still so many features that I haven't even tapped into yet. I recommend this tablet to anyone with a BB.

Not for Apple MAC OSX users!

I really wanted to like this product, it had advertised some features that made it seem more attractive than the iPad: higher MP cameras, multi-tasking, Flash web browser, more memory & faster processor, etc...but unfortunately the BlackBerry Desktop software does not work with Apple MAC OSX at all...zero connectivity.
I spent nearly an hour on the phone with RIM's tech support and finally a higher level support tech named "Adam" admitted that RIM's Blackberry Playbook does not have desktop sync/transfer capability with Apple MAC OSX yet...he said he doesn't even know an estimated timeframe either.
So, aside from it's obvious "toy-like" features with chatting, Twitter, etc...if you're thinking about buying this tablet and your OS is MAc OSX, FORGET IT!
Also, this is not the most "user-friendly" device either. The on/off (sleep) button is a real challenge, as other reviewers have stated. Navigating the tablet interface menus is bizarre with finger-swiping constantly. The glossy tablet 7" screen is instantly smeared with fingerprints from all the swiping.

Great picture taking and video taking qualities. I just wish that I had "sprung" for the 64gig model. Apps are a little slow in arriving and I have high hopes for a GPS Travel app with vocal turns similar to Magellan, Garmin, etc.
Half the price of an IPad and works well anywhere there is WIFI to tap into.
LastPass app works well with the tablet,

I am a huge fan of this Tablet. The multitasking aspect is far superior to any other tablet. Soon the 2.0 OS will come out for it and make it even better. The Size is perfect. I was able to take this tablet with me for a backpacking trip through Scotland. The Videos an pictures I took were amazing. The durability and size make it perfect for everyday everywhere use.

Good deal for the 199 sale amount

The Playbook is a good deal for the 199 sale amount. May consider an Apple if paying full price. Playbook works great and fast enough. Have zero issues with operating, sync, wifi access, etc. Good video and pictures if outside. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. Pros; Can bridge with BB cell and have internet access anywhere for no cost! Can download files Excel,Word, PP etc. Access to files w/o internet. Downsides; BB has a limited number of apps compatible w/playbook. Files download into general access and you cannot create additional folders for seperating specific files. (Still better than ipod, where you must have internet to access files). Will not accept any type of additional USB file storage. Sometimes hitting the correct email or icon on the touchpad is difficult if you have larger fingers, but I still like the smaller size than iPad. Note-there is an OS update coming in Feb, which is suppossed to fix the majority of wants and needs.

The Blackberry PlayBook has arrived!! After deciding to venture into the tablet market, I choose to do "MY" own research to see which tablet BEST fits MY needs. By far the PlayBook exceeded all other tablets. I also took into consideration that the PlayBook needed time to mature and grow in certain areas, such as apps, apps, and apps. The PORTABILITY of this device, the POWER of this device and the POTENTIAL of this device makes it stand alone in "MY" choice for what BEST suits my needs. I purchased the 32gb and it has exceeded my expectations. This is truly the BEST tablet on the market, and has only been out for about four(4) weeks.

I love this thing, it is the perfect size! I wish there were more apps, like Nook, Kindle, Skype, Netflix... But not yet. I have discovered that Amazon Prime works perfect on this, and I was going to get rid of Netflix anyway, so I may switch to Amazon Prime.

amazing quality for a 7" tablet

I had been looking at buying a tablet for a few months. I looked at Apple, Kindle Fire, and some Droid tablets. I had chosen the Blackberry Playbook for the ease of use, size to carry anywhere and the ability to tether my phone to the tablet so I can get internet anywhere without an additional cost as long as my phone is getting network connection. This is the huge bonus over any device out there. The quality and feel is amazing, the browsing of google and other interenet connections are fast and great resolution for videos. The app store does not have the huge selection because many developers are pushing Apple and Android, but there is still tons to chose from and in February they are updating the operating system so you will be able to access Droid apps.
Don't get me wrong, the Ipad is nice, but the cost comparison of $249 for a 32 gb Playbook (when it went on sale) to a $729 32GB Ipad to get the network plus a monthly bill, I love the Blackberry Playbook so much more!!

There's been a lot of complaining about the PlayBook tablet. I for one think it's great!! My buying choice was based mainly on two factors: BlackBerry Bridge that allows accessing certain phone functions from the PlayBook, and tethering - being able to connect to the Internet away from WiFi without needing a separate data plan.
Both of these work extremely well with my BlackBerry Bold 9700.
Beyond that, the OS is fast, the touch screen responsive, and yes I do believe OS 2 is on the way just like RIM says.

I've had the Playbook for 2 weeks and this tablet is a mean machine. If you are looking to play games and love silly apps then buy an iPad. If you're in the market for a powerful tablet with FULL web browsing ability (Adobe Flash, Adobe AIR, HTML5) then look no further than the Playbook. RIM did fumble the launch a bit, and they released the tablet with some unfinished business (native push email and BBM to name two) but the OS updates are rolling out almost on a weekly basis in an effort to put the finishing touches in this very impressive tablet, and on a side note, the OS updates are pushed directly to the tablet and are downloadable over the air which Apple does not do for their devices yet.
More apps are on the way. Rumor has it that developers are writing apps for the updated version of the Playbook QNX OS that will be rolling out soon (as per RIM) which should include the native email, blackberry messenger, and support for Android apps.
Incredible for Blackberry owners. If you are a Berry person you will be thrilled to know that for no additional data plan, you can utilize the app "Blackberry Bridge" to tether your phone via bluetooth to your Playbook and use BBM, push email, and access all of the media on your phone and last but not least....with the bridge you access the 3G signal from your phone on your Playbook in order to stay connected everywhere that you don't have WiFi.
I love this thing.

We've had the original iPad in our household since Christmas. As far as my opinion on tablets go the bar was already set pretty high. Bought the Asus Transformer first, I have no doubt Honeycomb will one day be an excellent OS but the frequent crashes and native software that simply didn't work forced me to sell it. Before buying an iPad 2 I decided to try the Playbook and fell in love with it. Most of the criticism that the device has received is fully justified. Low on apps-check, Battery life compared to iPad-check, smallest power button on earth-check, lack of native email client-check. I know more apps are coming(including native email), I personally don't need my battery to last 10 hours (7-8 hours is more than adequate for me), and well...that power button does suck :-). BUT the touch interface is brilliantly implemented, almost everything is lightening fast(some flash intensive sites slow down e.g. Pandora), browser implementation, access to in-app menus, build quality, presentation output while viewing notes on playbook, and multi-tasking is an absolute dream. I just found a lot to like about the device. I love the iPad, I think I'll learn to love honeycomb, but the Playbook just felt right for me. Oh and the form factor...I realize for some people a 7-inch tablet is just too small but it allows me to carry it in my cargo shorts pocket, another aspect that won me over.

The BlackBerry PlayBook has a feel of high quality. The screen picture quality is impressive. Both cameras work very well, providing there is enough lighting. Indoor photos and video may be a bit grainy if there isn't enough light. Outdoor video and photo quality is amazing. The touch screen is fast and responsive.
The AppWorld store could use a whole lot more apps and games. The prices are a bit high.
At the sale price that I paid, this is a real bargain. At full price - maybe not so much.

I looked at playbooks last fall and had a hard time justifying the price. Not because I didn't think that the product was worth it, but because I am frugal. So when I saw the sale (32 GB - 249.00) I went right to Best Buy and got the last one they had. I am not disappointed in the least. The picture quality, sound and ease of use are amazing. So was set-up. I took it out of the box, turned it on and typed in my WiFi password and it downloaded updates and then set itself up! I bought the tablet primarily for the four days a week that I spend a hour at a time on the treadmill and I dont want to watch the gym's TV. Unfortunately, as you've heard, Netflix, XFinity and Hulu are not supporting the OS. However, I downloaded an app called "Tablet TV" and have found that there ae many sites out there that I can veiw TV Shows and movies. The promise of Android Player is encouraging. The OS update was a step in the right direction too.

I bought one for my wife as a Christmas gift, but after pairing with my Blackberry Nextel phone, kept it for my self (I had to buy another one for her later)
There have been bad reviews about this tablet, but it runs smooth several apps at the same time, I can download some apps, maybe not many, but at least the necessary ones for my job. It is the perfect companion for my BBerry smartphone since it pairs via the Bridge app.
Ironically the name is "Playbook", and although you can play with it, (I have Angry Birds and Need for Speed in it) because of the great hardware, you might wanto to use it for work.
I can't wait for the update on February, with native e-mail, android apps and other improvements I think this is going to be one of the best tablets around. This review is being posted from my Blackberry Playbook.
Buy yours !!!!

Excellent design with strong performance! It is really an IPAD killer!!!. IPAD2 has nothing to compare with this device, except apps. However, the most of the apps are trash anyway!!! When the app world grows, it will be the best tablet ever made. The audio quality is very close to best stereo. Ipad2's audio sucks!!! I sold my IPAD2 on ebay !!! I love playbook and use it for my business and entertainment.
