I was very specific, after several months of research and reading consumer reviews, about the model I wanted. This dishwasher presents an opportunity to get creative with loading, as the racks can be reconfigured with sections that flip up to support glassware, or fold down, allowing space for small bowls. I could not have imagined a dishwasher so quiet, you can't even tell it's running! Works great and looks great too! Fits, perfectly, in the under counter space

After much research, yes reading the GOOD and the BAD, we bought this dishwasher. Visually we're not happy: our old dishwasher, a GE, filled the entire space. The Bosch has a 1/2" gap all around the opening. However, it is sealed with a gasket that encloses the space. The interior is smaller than most dishwashers we looked at but the ability to configure the interior is what sold us. With the exception of two short rows of tines in the top and bottom racks all others fold "FLAT". This has given us the ability to wash pots, pans, large or oddly shaped pieces easily. The size has not been an issue. When we have parties we generally wash more than one load of dishes and this is no different. It took some time and frustration to learn how to load the dishwasher. Referring to the manual, with it's loading diagrams, solved the problem.....should have done this first. Our dishes come out literally sparkling. The dishwasher is so quiet I have walked over to check and make sure it was running. Unless you're standing right in front of the dishwasher you cannot hear it. There have been comments about dishes coming out wet which we experienced at first. However, again after reading the manual and loading the dishes properly solved this problem. It's the tilt at which you place items that makes the difference. Comments have also been made about the long run times but in our research they're not much different than any other dishwasher. Also we run it when we go to bed so the running time is not an issue. It took a few tries at loading, as I mentioned read the manual it's a big help, and I can say we're happy to have made this purchase. NOTE: do not open the dishwasher to unload until the timer goes to 0 otherwise you will break the door seal and the dishes will not have dried properly. This could be another reason there have been comments about wet dishes.

Large improvement in cleanliness, sound level and amount of dishs the washer can hold over our 14 year old Kitchen Aid washer that it replaced. I'm glad we opted for the 500 series with the rack system. It easily accomodates all variations for dishes, large mugs and tuperware items that usually caused us loading problems with the old washer. You can hear the dishwasher depending on where it is in the cycle, however, the volume is very muted and does not interfere with any conversation in our open floor plan. We have not had any problems with having dry dishes at the end of the cycle. However, if you do have glass where water can pool on the bottom end, water will pool (this was the same with our old washer even with the heater coils). Overall the washer holds a significant more than our old washer and the flexibility of the racks allows for a lot of odd pieces. The toprack movers up also to allow for very tall trays. Great machine.

We bought this dishwasher after a lot of research. The interior is a little smaller then our old Kenmore, but once you get the hang of loading it, it's great. We especially like the utensil holders, they can be used together or split apart in put in different areas of the dishwasher. It does a fantastic job of cleaning. Could not be happier with that part. We've had no problem with the drying. It does not have a heated drying cycle like our old machine (which saves energy), we use Finish jet dry along with the detergent and it all comes out great. There is a holder just for the jet dry and it lasts 40 loads or so, an indicator is lit when you're running low. We start our dishwasher after dinner and then unload it in the morning, everything, including the plastic is perfectly dry. We were buying other stainless steel appliances at the same time, but not all the same brand so we liked that this dishwasher has two 'shades' of stainless steel on it...it goes with anything. We're happy with this purchase.

As I read elsewhere, there was a funky smell at first but noticed it goes away over time. So quiet we don't even know it's on. So far so good for cleaning dishes but haven't had it very long. Newer Bosch's like this have smaller interiors than other brands and their tines can make it difficult to fit everything in. They are very close together. We brought dishes and tested in the store to make sure our large plates fit. Since there's only 2 of us, this work ok for us but if you have a large family, this may be too small for you. Delivery and installation was on time and efficient.

The 'European', slanted rack fingers are frustrating to load. Seems like I am able to put far fewer items in the dishwasher than a conventional design. I kept the removable rack for tiny items from my old dishwasher and have to use it about once a week for items that would otherwise fall through. I wanted to wait on the release of the new model as it will have 'North American' racks, but no one could tell me when it was coming. It usually cleans well on Regular, but I still sometimes have to re-wash by hand certain items, like cups that are at the very back or front of the rack. There is a strong chemical smell when the dishwasher is opened after completing its cycle. I use the minimum amount of rinse agent and detergent to try to lessen this. The smell is so unpleasant that we only unload when not preparing food.

I have had this dishwasher for about 3 weeks. I can hear the dishwasher, but actually have to think about it to notice it. I can carry on a conversation and watch tv at normal levels! Couldn't do that with my old machine. Dishes come out clean and spotless. Has taken a bit to get accustomed to the layout, but I think anytime you change your racks that would be the case.

Overall, a good dishwasher, although I don't really appreciate the cost for the value. It's good looking, large capacity, and the interior design makes sense to me. The upper (third) rack is a nice option, but it just annoys me that my upper rack stuff (coffee mugs, wine glass bases) are filled with water at the end of the cycle, even using the "pro dry" setting, and JetDry. I had previously purchased a Bosch, which was completely annoying, and I returned for this one. I'm happier with this one, but it's still not perfect.

I researched dishwashers on Consumer's Reports and read ALL of the customer comments/reviews on the Best Buy, Sears, Lowes, Amazon, Bosch (manufacturer), CNET, and other websites. Then I looked at the dishwashers at Best Buy, Sears, Lowes, and the various lcoal appliance stores in my area. The reviews about the Ascenta and 300 series were correct in that their capacity is a little smaller and the racks were less adjustable and harder to use. The 500 series with the 800 series racks were much easier to use and hold more dishes in more configurations. The 800 series didn't seem to add much for the additional expense so we went this 500 series model with the adjustable 800 series racks. I purchased this model just before Christmas, Best Buy price matched, and it was delivered on 12/28 in pristine condition. Of course Best Buy put it on sale after it was delivered but it was only $5 less than what I paid for it via price matching so I let it go. I installed it myself via direct hard wiring although I had to do some modifications to my wiring as the wiring on the Bosch dishwasher terminates in the right front and my Maytag terminated in the left front so the existing wiring was too short. While I was at it I put in a braided stainless steel water supply hose to replace the 15 year old plastic water supply hose. As some people commented, the Bosch dishwasher is a little narrower than others and didn't quite fill the existing cavity and the black vinyl "skirts" on the side of the dishwasher could have been a little more robust to better fill in the void. I have a private well, I have been told that 4 grains of hardness is hard water and anything over 7-8 grains is extremely hard--I have 34 grains of hardness so it is very hard on appliances, sinks, tubs, faucets, etc.. I replaced my existing water softener in November with a commerical model with three times the capacity but it only made a little bit of difference in cleaning by my Maytag dishwasher. Our clear glasses were extremely cloudy, white, streaky and had calcium deposits on them and the dishes just weren't coming out completely clean. After just ONE wash in the Bosch all of the clear glasses were just that, CRYSTAL clear. ONE cycle in the Bosch with Cascade tablets completely removed ALL of the cloudy, white, streaky, calcium deposits and etching! My wife was going to buy new glasses when we were done replacing the water softener and the dishwasher but everything is so clean now that she is keeping the old glasses. We have just used the automatic cycle and the 30 minute/quick cycle and everything comes out perfect and extremely dry. Some people have commented that their dishes don't dry. We don't have that problem, everything is dry enough to immediately put away. The first thing that a dishwasher has to do is clean dishes. If it can't do that well it doesn't make any difference what else it does or how it looks etc.. This thing CLEANS dishes. It DRYS dishes. And quiet, I walked past it once and asked my wife if she was going to start the dishwasher only to find out it was already running! The only problem? My wife is so impressed with the new technology and performance and likes the stainless steel look so much that now she wants a new refrigerator and stove to match the performance, convenience, technology and looks of the new Bosch dishwasher!

Bought this dishwasher when my 15 year old Whirlpool finally quit. Been looking for several years since the control panel was held together with tape on the old one. Went with the Bosch because Consumer Reports loves it and there were positive customer reviews. Liked the interiors of a Whirlpool and a KitchenAid much better, but this one was the best reviewed and quietest. Turns out, the others were too large for my old opening and even this one was a very tight fit. It is very quiet, and it looks high end. 14 place setting is a joke. The rack design is the poorest I've ever seen and my old 18" apartment size I had years ago held about the same amount of dishes. If you use your dishwasher for only plates, utensils and glasses, this dishwasher is fine. Pots and pans just don't fit in the same load. Takes twice as long to wash half as much as my old Whirlpool. Also, it is an Energy Star appliance, so it doesn't boost the hot water temperature, doesn't have a built in disposal to grind food particles, and doesn't have a heating element to get things dry, all features my old $300. dishwasher had. Tall tub also means you have to bend over much closer to the floor to load and unload the thing. And lastly, it already has a sour smell that my old dishwasher never had. Overall, I'm very disappointed in all the new dishwashers on the market. Not saying I wouldn't reluctantly buy this one again, just that manufacturers should be looking at the features from 20 years ago and combining them with the quiet technology available now.

For what we paid, we expected more than 7 years. The motor is shot. So we either pay 1/2 of the price of the unit to fix, or buy a new one. Expected more from Bosch.

This was an exchange ( TG for extended warranty) of a Samsung model with great display, bells and whistles but no way to wash dishes. This Bosh model is a bit simpler, less cycles, small display but DOES washes dishes like a commercial dishwasher. No matter how dirty dishes you stick in, all comes shiny and dry. Extremely efficient and whisper quiet. We get plenty of space for family of 5. Was installed by BB crew, you need an install kit. Highly recommended after 4 months of heavy use. Wife is finally happy ;-)
