    Great Sound & Univeral Remote

When we got our new Sony 65W950B, the Best Buy rep demo'd the Sony soundbars. Ha! Ha! Ha! Then he demo'd the Cinemate 15. We were laughing for a whole different reason. It sounded good low with acceptable bass. Simple to use and small foot print. SOLD! My wife was pleased when she easily programmed the included universal remote for the TV, cable, and Blu-Ray. I think that is an unsung bonus feature. For anyone getting this system, don't dismiss the remote. This is the perfect trade-off for us and a big surround sound stereo system.

    Excellent Sound, Small Package

I live in a small one bedroom apartment and this sound system is perfect. The soundboard fits perfectly below my television without being cumbersome on the eyes. The subwoofer is wired which can be a downside, but it looks great in the room and complements the entertainment center. The sound quality on this is magnificent for the size and the bass can range from uncomfortably load and booming to quiet and subdued, allowing the user to adjust to their preferred level. The system adds depth to your viewing without needing a whole 5.1 system wired around your room. I highly recommend this unit despite its high price point.

This system sounds so good. This is my first Bose system to own and based on this experience it won't be my last. The only complaint I have is the inputs are rather limiting. I wish their were more options, such as HDMI inputs. Having said that though, it's the best sound of any system I've ever owned.

Small, well-made, expensive, meh sound quality

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The good: mid/high range speaker is very small and well-made, with a metal enclosure. RF remote control has excellent range. Inputs for optical digital, coaxial digital, and analog audio. Wired subwoofer connection with 10ft cord. The bad: subwoofer is huge and plasticy. No inputs/passthru for HDMI signals if you care about that. The ugly: sound quality is 'meh'. Absolutely NO soundstage. Turns itself off automatically, but doesn't turn itself back on automatically. No Bluetooth or AirPlay capability. Only had this soundbar for a week, so consider this a preliminary review. This is the second soundbar we've owned; this replaces a Boston Acoustics Tvee 30 that our cats knocked off the entertainment center one time too many. Years ago, I had a Dolby ProLogic setup with a Yamaha receiver and KEF speakers. That system sounded an order of magnitude better than any soundbar I've heard, but it had zero spousal acceptance factor. My ancient television has only coaxial digital and analog (red/white) outputs; luckily, the Bose accepts either, in addition to optical digital input. Bose helpfully includes an optical cable and an RCA cable to connect to your existing TV or cable box. (They're not being *that* generous - these cables cost single-digit dollars.) The connection to the subwoofer is through a pair of bonded multi-conductor cables with DB-9(!) connectors. The amplifiers seem to all be in the subwoofer box; the heat sinks are visible if you look into the cooling grates on the sub enclosure. The digital/analog inputs all go to the back of the mid/high speaker. The mid/high speaker has a pair of Bose's signature dinky 3" drivers in their "direct/reflecting" arrangement - think of a letter 'W'. The direct/reflecting concept - normally applied to their bookshelf speakers like the 301 - is that you bounce some sound off the wall to widen the soundstage...which sort of works in that situation, where the two speakers are separated by some distance. When the four drivers are mere millimeters apart, it doesn't really seem to help...this speaker has zero, zip, nada, no soundstage. It may as well be a mono center channel speaker. Bose claims that they are doing some kind of signal processing ("The four-element speaker array inside works with Bose TrueSpace® signal processing to spread sound well beyond the speaker itself.") but, well, it doesn't work. It just...doesn't. Worse, the sound that does come out of it is really rather flat, with dull highs. The only audio adjustment is a knob on the subwoofer to adjust bass levels, so forget tuning the sound to your room like you can with the Yamaha soundbars. Watching the Blu-Ray version of Raiders of the Lost Ark, voices were well-represented and clear, and the system was able to keep up with the dynamic range of the movie, but musical cues, sounded flat and uninspired. Overall verdict - if size of the mid/high speaker is of paramount importance, then this may be the speaker for you...but it's expensive, and the sound is only so-so.

Typical Bose quality, atypical Bose price

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

In brief, the system is compact, unobtrusive, and the sound greatly exceeded my (high) expectations. For news and other "standard" programming, clarity of voice is truly excellent; not merely an enhancement of my TV speaker (which, I should add, leaves a lot to be desired). For movies, I was shocked by the surround effect. Better than any other non-5.1 (or 7.1) systems I've sampled, and I've tried out quite a few. The bass module is exceptional, even for the subtle. I was most struck by this yesterday while watching a show that had a phone on vibrate; the vibration sound was so realistic that I assumed it was coming from my own iPhone. The system is also ideal for all genres of music (or at least those I've played on it: rock, rap, classical, pop, jazz). I even started using the remote instead of my FiOS remote, which has a nice in-hand feel and was easy to set up with TV, DVD player, DVR box, Apple TV, and Roku. Yes, it's more expensive than some (if not many) other soundbar systems, but I find the quality to be disproportionately better. Additionally, having owned a number of Bose products, I will say that their customer service has been outstanding.

The little sound bar that could

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This little sound bar exceeded my expectations. It has a spacious, three dimensional front sound field, crystal clear dialogue and very good surround effects in rooms with hard, reflective surfaces like side walls. And you don't have to turn it up very loud to hear the on screen dialogue. Ease of Set Up - 10/10 Dialogue - 9/10 Bass - 10/10 (You can adjust the bass higher or lower from the Acoustimass module to suit your tastes) Surround Effects - 6/10 (Although some scenes in "Lone Survivor" and "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" were pushing 9/10) Bottom line, this is not just a glorified Solo with a subwoofer. This unit is in a class of its own. It's recommended to put this unit in a room with hard, reflective surfaces to take full advantage of the side firing drivers which bounces sounds off the walls for surround effects. This unit may be much more convenient than the Cinemate GS Series II since it has fewer wires and does not require table or floor stands. I have mine located in a bedroom measuring 14 x 12. Most people looking for simplicity and great sound will be very pleased with this latest offering from Bose.

    Great Sound for 350.00

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I've always wanted a sound bar system from Bose years ago even looked at the 321 series but could never pull trigger. Every time in Best Buy I would check out the Cinamte 15 and listen to it but couldn't justify 499.99 for system but when they dropped price to 350.00 I said I'll give it a shot and boy they don't disappoint IMO a lot of sound for a small system and the bass is noticeable and adds to the overall system. Glad I purchased at 350.00 but after hearing system i would have paid close to retail maybe.

Hooked this up in just a couple minutes and set the bass. This small system sounds amazing. For the size its hard to believe the sound that comes out of it. I was so impressed I purchased a 2nd one for my nephew. I have the Bose 321 system. This one is several steps above the 321.

Surprisingly, this Bose design creates an undeniably crisp dynamic range. Oh, did I say "surprisingly"? I would recommend this user friendly setup to anyone looking to make their first, possibly final step into the sound bar market. Thanks to the fiber optic option, I listen to music and movie dialogue in clean, masterful tones.

I bought this to use with my tv. The sound quality is excellent. It provides clear tones and a rich base. It was extremely easy to set up. I just wish I could hook my iPhone up to it directly. I had to buy a Bluetooth adapter.
