Magic! I can hear GOOD again!

For $500 ( at the time of review) I did not want to like this device and really didn't expect it to work, however I bought it the same day I went to demo it in the store. Anyone who knows me, knows I never do that on big ticket items, but this device has the potential to improve my quality of life in a major way. Quick background on my situation...I have about 50% hearing loss in my left ear due to a hole in my eardrum and about 20% hearing loss in my right from loud concerts, loud car stereo systems that I built myself, and gun ranges without proper hearing protection. Most of these occurred years ago when I was young and dumb, but I must confess i still like to be front row at a live concert! These things sound good! Environment amplification for conversation, tv, and music all sound quite natural and good. At least, better than without these. Streaming music and phone calls sound very good. I've been told my voice sounds good over the phone. A good jack of all trades headset, but here is the real kicker... I can control what I hear and how loud. Music and no outside sound-done. Music and amplify my surroundings better than I can hear without anything in my ears-done. More sound to my left ear (that is more impaired) - done. Increase higher frequency or lower frequency tones in the real world-done!! Note: increasing treble reduces bass and is great for hearing female voices while decreasing treble, increases bass and works great for hearing male voices. More magic, you can choose where to block noise out around you. The main setting is global sound and you can hear things all around you (evenly, which is quite interesting). This setting is best for watching television and listening to the stereo. The next setting will block noise the comes from behind you. My best guess is it reduces those sounds by 50 to 70%. The final setting is called Focus, and amplifies sound originating right in front of you and I would guess that cone of sound to be approximately 45 degrees. You can still hear things to each side, but those sounds are subdued considerably. Finally, these do have noise filtering. I have not had them long enough to know exactly what it filters and doesn't, but to give you a few examples, wind noise will be reduced if it is consistent and water coming out of a faucet like when you are washing your hands. You will hear these noises at your set amplification, but then the noise reduction will kick in. The best thing about this feature (at least so far) is that it has not blocked or reduced any sounds that I do want to hear. Magic is the word I would use to describe my new Earphones. I love them and will definitely be keeping them. Now to prove this is a real review :P There are a few things that I do not love and would like to see be improved. 1. The neck band likes to turn off center ( normally to the left) anytime I am doing something. I am constantly having to re-center this around the neck. 2. Battery life- normally around 10 hours. I would like to see this increased to 15-20 hours. Maybe put additional battery in right side to balance out neckband and increase play time :) 3. Super picky, but would be nice. Ability to adjust tone (treble/bass) for each ear. In my case, my left ear is much worse at hearing higher frequencies than my right and would be nice to raise treble in that ear while increasing base in my right for "true balance". Final thoughts,--I own a Widex hearing aid for my left ear. I tried my best and multiple visits to my audiologist to incorporate it into my life, but the sound it produced was never adequate to be a life improvement for me. My brain would constantly tell me "this thing sounds terrible"! So, I just stop wearing it since it really didn't help in any given situation. However, headphones for music sound good and I have always wished I could take the sound from my headphones and amplify the outside world. THESE DO THAT!! So if you are in the same boat as me, you will also Love these and you must get a pair immediately. Bose offers a 30 day trial in case they don't work for you. BTW-I read a ton of reviews before I buy most anything, but rarely write them (selfish, I know) but these are helping me so much, that I couldn't help but write a review in hopes that it will help others like me to discover this great device. Thank you Bose for creating this device! It's such a great device for mild to moderately hearing impaired individuals, I know you guys will start having a hard time keeping these it stock once the word gets out. And Bose, if my review helps you sell a bunch of these, I could always use a back up pair of these! :P

I have purchased these hearphones for my mother. She is now back with us. Now she can join us in every conversation and can hear her cell phone ringing and therefore answer it with just one click.
It takes only 2 hours for fully charge and last about 12.
The app for android has some many options, but we just needed to set the one is good for her and period, no more modifications.

I was hoping for a solution where I wouldn't require hearing aids. Unfortunately for me, this doesn't provide an optimal solution especially at the cost.

Review for
Bose® - Hearphones™ Conversation-Enhancing Headphones - Black
As a reviewer of a certain age, I was really looking forward to trying these earphones out. I have some trouble hearing in crowds, at restaurants, and when the TV volume is low.
In many ways, these are a better answer than hearing aids. They help you focus sound in the direction you want: head-on, mostly front, or all around. You can adjust the volume, and the bass/treble for your personal liking. You can adjust the volume for each ear.
The Hearphones come with three sets of tips to adjust for the best fit for your ears. It is important to find the best tip to get the most out of this device. Sadly, I found the tips a little difficult to change and tore one. The instructions show the best way to change them, and if you follow them carefully, you can avoid my mistake!
Most of the settings can be adjusted using controls on the the neckband or cable, so I found it frustrating that I had to have my phone nearby so it could connect to the app. Don’t get me wrong, adjusting your personal preferences with the app is great, but once that is done, it would be nice to use them without the earphones searching and not finding your phone if it’s not nearby.
This seems like a very forward-thinking product; the number of people who could benefit from it must be huge. I’d like to suggest just one other change. Older people with hearing issues also sometimes have mobility issues from things like arthritis. I think the controls on these earphones are very typical, but not very practical for older people. I especially found the on/off button hard to press and hold to power the unit on and off. A larger, easier to press button, tested by people likely to be using it, would be a great change to see!

I don't have hearing problems, I just enjoy new technology. With these in my ear I can be in the kitchen and amplify them enough to hear the t.v very well. They have a way of making the audio sound so much better with lows and and highs.. The audio sounds excellent for listening to your music and I get no complaints for call audio. Love the headphones!

Hearing loss just beginning, and I especially needed them for theater performances in small spaces where they don't have assistive devices. Works like a charm, but interestingly it sounds better when I'm not using the focus feature, but rather getting sound from the full 360 degrees.

I’ve owned numerous set of wireless headphones and these by far out do all the other brand. Not only do they actually do what they’ supposed to, but the customer service exceeds all expectations. Now…with all that being said, it does violate your pockets a bit, but if you can get the price tag it’s worth it.

worked really well for me until I got an actual hearing aid. This will pick up background noise and I found difficult to use in noisy settings I'm only heard hearing in one ear. The directional function works, but better for someone that needs in both ears.

Between the pops and crackles on phone conversations and the dull audio for music tracks, you would be better off with almost anything else.
The only redeeming grace for these headphones is the ability to enhance the external audio around you. The apps for this is easy to use, butbfeels "lacking".
Overall, I should have returned them in the return period but was travelling and couldn't. Expensive lesson!
