I used to own a portable scanner from a different manufacturer, it did within a few months, and I haven't even used it that often. So before I purchased the next one I did a lot of research, trying to find what would best fit my needs. I wanted one that would scan to SD card, well there not many around other than what I had before. Many portables scan to the cloud, which I do not want, especially since most want you to sign up for their own cloud service, none accepted the cloud service I already have.So I ended up purchasing this. It was extremely easy to set up, there is a huge manual on that CD that explains everything. I installed the driver and Button Manager only, I do not need all that fancy stuff receipt manager and things like that, I can manage my receipts without special software. Withing minutes I connected the USB cable and the scanner to my laptop and scanned my first test page. It automatically noticed that I already ha a folder "my scans" and that's where the scan landed. You have a choice in settings to scan as JPG or PDF, also if color, black/white or gray scale, you can adjust the area you want to scan. So it is all really easy. Quality of scan is just what I need, I would not scan high resolution photos with a little scanner like this. For me it is all about being able to scan documents when on the road with my laptop. It fits in my laptop case without making the bag bulky or heavy.

Got this item to replace an HP 6200c flatbed because I wanted something that can handle larger that 11" length. My primary computer is Linux based and Brother has Linux drivers so that was a big plus. The scanner works fine under my Linux system but I'm not happy with the post scan processing options available with the several Linux applications I have tried ( Skanlite, Simple Scan, Xsane and Kooka). I installed the provided Windows software (Paperport SE v12) and while it does provide decent post processing options, the application periodically bombs and cries about not enough memory. I have 12GB on a 64 bit system and when I monitor task manager, memory never goes below 8 GB available. So pros and cons: Pros - Scanner is small and very portable (easy to move from 1 system to another, USB powered only, no need to move a power cord). Handles documents up to 32" in length Price was decent and I caught it on sale for another $10 off WAAAYYY faster than my HP 6200c Cons - The provided software sucks! This is really my biggest gripe about the product. If I could get it to function without bombing then I'd give it 4.0-4.5 rating The feed process is a little finicky but I think this is more user training on my part as the more I use it, it seems that I can load a document pretty easily.

    Good hardware, incompetent support software

I bought a Brother DSmobile 620 on 2017.05.13. Its driver doesn't deskew, but it feeds old, fragile newspaper notices without damaging them and it crops very nicely. The hardware has one notable shortage. The unit comes with a USB cable that has ferrite parasitic suppressors on it. It won't work with a cable that doesn't have them. The USB bus Rx/Tx interface has inadequate noise margins or hysteresis. The cable problem appears on several machine in the household. None of them has a similar problem with other outrigger equipment. The deal breaker is its image processing software. The dynamic range of grayscale images is inadequate. Dark areas are devoid of detail, the worst low-end washout I've seen in any of the several scanners I've owned. The solution is to scan the images in color and reduce them to grayscale with a third party tool, which produces results that are well within expectations. Unfortunately, the color images themselves reveal the shortcomings of the support software. Images are grossly oversaturated. The support software provides control of neither saturation nor chroma. The machine is useless for color imaging.

Scans both long documents and cards, which some other scanners of the same size & price point don't do. Some users might not like having 4 different operations to download drivers for, but if you like things modular, this can be a useful 'fail-safe.' The 'towing sheet' for guiding small cards & documents through the scanner is unusual but ingenious; replaces taping items head-to-tail to consolidate multiple pay records into a single document. The DS-620 fits better in my laptop case than other bulkier portable scanners. Brother has been a brand with a reputation for durability. Some longer documents, e.g., Social Security award letters, may stick partway if they are cut, wrinkled or soiled; the 'towing sheet' could counteract this problem. Overall, not as simple as some scanners in its class, but more versatile; good brand at a very good price (bought on special sale at Best Buy).

I have a very good Canon flat bed scanner, but in order to scan a multipage document on European-sized paper the bed was too short. Since the condition of the bound book the document was in required that I cut out the pages to scan separately it occurred to me that a sheetfed scanner might work, but I was worried about the quality of this scanner for the price. One gets what one pays for, but it turned out that this scanner did the job like a champ! It was good that the scanner comes with a transparent carrier because the paper I needed to scan was rather delicate. Of course the carrier is not required to scan things. This scanner is a valuable addition to my home office! To say that I am pleased with this its performance is to understate it.

Lugging around a huge printer-scanner in my car was starting to wear on me. Then I saw this! Now I just slip it into my backpack along with my laptop and I am good to go. I have been using it ever since. There's a higher priced model out there that simultaneously does both sides I think but this one suffices for my needs. Reliable. DPI resolution adjustable--I keep it at 300 DPI. Any less and you have to deal with pixelation. Any more and the scanning might slow down. 300 is optimum and this scanner does it very well. Best of all, this scanner is USB powered. No need for external power adapters (more wires). I tried using my phone to take pictures of notes, pictures, and documents but it takes to long to get it right if I can get it right. This bar scanner is the best, bar none (pun intended). I highly recommend it if your needs are like mine.

My computer desk at work has no extra space for a scanner so I needed a scanner that was small, provided a clear copy and easy to use. This scanner is better than I ever expected! Based on some of the reviews I had read I was expecting a slower scan time but it's fast and easy to use. Much better than the HP all in one I have at home. It's pretty much plug and play. The initial set up was a bit confusing since the instructions in the users manual showed a different picture than what came up on the CD. I just clicked on the first topic and clicked play and installation started right up. Due to it's small size I am able to store it when not in use. My documents are now easily scanned into an electronic format and so clear you would think they had been copied instead of scanned. The price was right and cheaper than some of the discount software sites. The IT guy at work was even impressed!

I bought this scanner so I wouldn't have to use my flatbed scanner for the simple task of reducing paperwork. The scanner is small and does NOT require taking up yet another outlet for power...it is USB powered. The quality of the scan is nothing to write home about, but after a little tweaking it's good enough for my purpose. Now the software. I had a Visioneer Paperport keyboard/scanner 20+ years ago. It was a keyboard with a scanner built in with Paperport software, of course. Paperport software is easy to use and designed to keep you organized. The DSmobileCapture (TWAIN) software is a complete joke. Spend a little time and learn the Paperport software. I promise you will be pleased, and organized!

The scanner is quick. You don't have to wait for it to warm up, preview scan, or anything. It just ingests the scanning material and processes it quickly. This satisfied one of the features I wanted, however, the other feature I was looking for was quality scans. I was hoping to scan in all my photos to keep them in digital format, it did that, but the quality wasn't fair. I ended up re-doing them all with a flatbed scanner instead. This product works great for quick scans that you may not be concerned about quality, such as signing a document and scanning it to be emailed somewhere.

I'm very impressed with the quality of this scanner for its size. I can now store all my documents digitally, without worrying about them degrading and becoming unreadable over time (like thermal receipts). This scanner can do up to 600 dpi in color. The optical character recognition software is a great feature when you want to search a document for keywords. I prefer using the DSMobile Capture app to scan, and then use PageManager later to enable OCR and merge/split PDF files, or convert to other formats.

I bought this scanner to work on a photo project however, I underestimated the amount of photos I had. This product is ideal for occasional scanning but not recommended for large projects. The quality of the scanned photo was great and the ease in which to use the scanner and my laptop was easy. The downfall for me was the fact that I had to scan pictures individually rather than feed multiple photos at once. For the price and for what it is designed for, this product is decent but I should have bought a pricier scanner to do my photo project.

I tried two cheaper similar scanners and returned them both. They were not feeding the paper right so the scan either fails or comes out all crooked. I went with this Brother 620 after reading all great reviews and I was not disappointed. Perfect scans no matter what I threw at it. I scan mostly receipts and they all come out perfect not like the ones I returned which always cut off the top and bottom. If you are looking for a receipt scanner you can't go wrong with this one.

I normally read these reviews with a grain of salt. This actually happened. Bought the scanner for scanning business cards and from what I understand a great software package in fact it was the second best rated product ( according to what I assumed was great reviews) Sorry to say but after 2 plus hours they still can't figure out what is wrong. Finally it was fixed (Brother first customer service error). Now it runs better than I expected. Gotta to say disappoint with the Customer care and it took a long time but the results are better than expected.

This is just what we were looking for when it comes to keeping files at home and traveling with a personal business. Easy to travel with as it fits in my laptop case very easily. It's made traveling simpler and more efficient to send in expense receipts from the road. The one thing that did hold up the process was that the driver that came with it was already outdated so it wasn't plug and play like would have been easiest while on the road. I had to wait until I had internet access to download the driver so that I could then set up and scan as needed. Wish I'd known that before leaving to a construction site where network wasn't set up yet!

I am trying to go paperless, or at least have less paper so I looked at many different scanners. While the full size document scanners are great, they're also very expensive and out of my range right now. This mobile scanner solved my problem. It's portable and great for scanning receipts on the go, small on your desk, fast and clear. It's so simple to use too. My only complaint would be that the included software is a bit clunky and cumbersome to use. It works well though. Overall, this is my best purchase of the year!

I love this little gadget! Easy to keep all my paper trail under control. I can scan in lots of receipts, business cards, and docs quickly. Easy to install and use. I have had mine just about a year and it is not wanting to send anything through. Glad I got the 2 year geek squad protection. From past experience, I should just be able to go in and trade it for a new one. I definitely don't want to be without my handy little scanner.

I needed a small scanner for home use and this one does the trick. Very easy to use, software installed easy and stores nicely in black pouch that was provided. You can scan multiple pages, but need to pull them into a PDF editor to combine. Overall, I have VERY happy with the Brother - DS-620 Mobile Color Page Scanner. I am glad I did not spend more to get a bigger model.

I bought this scanner so I could scan documents on the go. I've only used it a few times, but so far it's worked great. It's easy to use, and the quality of the .pdfs is decent. Probably not something I'd use to scan a large number of pages, but I already have a Brother MFC at home for that. A note about Best Buy prices. I looked at this first on-line, but decided to go to the store to buy it. The price in the store was $10.00 more. When I asked, the clerk gave me the lower on-line price. So it always pays to check on-line first.

As a document scanner it works great. You will need to increase the quality as the default is set to low. Not a difficult task. Wish the included software was a little more and they didn't try to sell you the software you really need, but it comes with PaperPort as well, which will do what most people need. The biggest complaint is where they decided to locate the USB port. Without a right-angle connector the cable tends to get in the way of the exiting paper. It should have been on the end, out of the way from the working area.

Bought this to use when I travel for work (often). It's a super easy and most important with scanner..reliable product. No hiccups, plug and play with no real thinking or need to check instructions, and it does the job great. receipts, random extra papers, are perfect tasks. Very portable, too. Just perfect. Don't buy to scan lots of documents. It's great for the one off needs to capture those bits of papers that seem to turn up each day. It's great.
