Great Printer!

First Impressions & Setup
Out of the box, the 4355 feels solid for a consumer-class all-in-one. It’s not overly bulky, and the trays, manual feed slot, and cartridge compartment all feel sturdy enough for regular home or office use.
Mobile App Setup
Using Brother’s Mobile Connect app, I was able to set up Wi-Fi quickly. The app guides you through entering your network credentials, and the printer connects without much fuss. On my iPhone, Bluetooth assisted the setup, which made the process smoother. I did run into a small hiccup when updating the firmware — it required me to confirm on the printer’s screen and then go back to the app — but once completed, everything worked fine. After that, mobile printing and scanning from the app was straightforward, and the live ink level monitoring is a nice touch.
Windows Setup
On Windows, I installed the full driver and software suite from Brother. The setup detected the printer right away over Wi-Fi, installed the scanning utilities, and added it to my printers list. Printing and scanning from standard apps like Word and Windows Scan worked without issue.
macOS Setup
On macOS, installation was equally smooth. The printer showed up via Bonjour once the driver package was installed. Printing from Pages and scanning through Image Capture worked right away. The only small hiccup was approving the driver in Security & Privacy, which is normal these days for third-party drivers.
Print Performance & Quality
Speed
In everyday use, I was getting about 16–17 pages per minute for black and around 14–15 ppm for color in standard quality — pretty close to spec. First page came out in about 11 seconds. Color-heavy pages slowed things down, but it was still reasonable for a home or small office. Duplex printing is built in, which helps save paper.
Quality
Text documents are crisp and professional looking. Spreadsheets, charts, and presentations with color all came out clean with sharp edges and smooth fills. Photo prints are usable for casual needs, but you’ll notice some limitations: colors aren’t as vibrant as a dedicated photo printer, and gradients can show faint banding. If your main output is documents and mixed graphics, it does a great job; if you need gallery-quality photos, this isn’t the printer for you.
Scanning & Copying
The flatbed scanner plus a 20-page automatic document feeder is great for everyday scanning. It’s not duplex, so double-sided pages have to be flipped manually. At 300 dpi, scans of full pages finished in around 10–12 seconds, which is solid. Copies are about the same speed. The quality of scanned documents is sharp, and colors are accurate enough for archiving or digital filing.
Ink & Running Costs
This is the biggest selling point. The INKvestment cartridges are designed with internal tanks, so they last a lot longer than standard cartridges. Brother advertises up to a year of ink included, and based on page yields, that’s believable for moderate users. Costs per page are very low compared to traditional inkjets — around a penny for black and a few cents for color. Cartridge replacement is simple, and the printer keeps you updated on levels via the app or the small LCD screen.
Everyday Use
The 1.8-inch color display isn’t touch, but it gets the job done for status updates and menu navigation. For anything more advanced, the mobile app is much easier to use. Paper capacity is 150 sheets, which is fine for home or light office use, but heavy users will need to refill often. Noise is average for this class of printer, not overly loud but noticeable in a quiet room.
Strengths
• Very low ink costs with long-lasting cartridges
• Solid text and document print quality
• Decent print speeds for its class
• Duplex printing support
• Reliable scanning with a 20-page ADF
• Easy mobile and PC integration
Weaknesses
• No duplex scanning
• Average photo quality
• Modest paper capacity
• Small, non-touch display
Conclusion
The Brother INKvestment 4355 is a very well-rounded all-in-one that nails the basics and keeps operating costs impressively low. For home offices, students, or small businesses that mainly handle documents, forms, and the occasional color print, it’s a great value. The setup across mobile, Windows, and macOS is smooth, printing is fast and sharp, and the scanning features are dependable.
If you need high-end photo printing or automatic duplex scanning, you’ll want to step up to a more premium model. But for most people looking for a reliable, economical everyday printer, the 4355 delivers exactly what you need without draining your wallet on ink.

Pretty good all in one for documents, Brother!

This printer is pretty practical to me: great for our home office and without much of a fuss. Setup is fairly easy. It connects reliably via Wi-Fi or USB and the 1.8" color display is handy, though it’s on the small side and not touch-sensitive which I don’t like in 2025. It’s not that much more expensive for a touch screen, People!.
Print speed is good for an inkjet in black and color. My meter is the amount of time it takes for me to walk to the printer which I keep on a different floor than where I work in our home. The paper tray and fast automatic document feeder keeps things moving along, and automatic duplex (double-sided) printing is built-in for convenience but for some reason the scanner is NOT also duplex!!! How does this make sense?
Scans are serviceable and it’s easy. Items did not get garbled and the sharpness is fine for documents. The print quality for plain text and color documents is also sharp and clear. Photo scans look fine for household and personal use, but on the print side, it’s only a 4 color so I couldn’t get the best prints for professional or proofing use, honestly, they don't advertise it as something you'd use for that.
Brother’s ink system is the best part. The cartridges last for a long time. In my short amount of time with the printer, I printed quite a bit and didn’t seem to make the dial move on the ink level. That tells me that there really is over a thousand pages of print in them. Maintenance seems minimal, with no prescribed head maint in the manual. I would recommend to print something every couple weeks to avoid inkjet clogging that seems to happen with any inkject tech. Build quality is solid, with easy access to cartridges and jams, though the input tray is a little thin. I think if I accidentally break something over time, it’ll be that tray.
I will say that printers should work out of the box now and either auto download or work in a generic print driver. I couldn’t get my Chromebook to work with the printer out of the box, but I could get my Win and Macs to work along with my Pixel phone and my iPad (after installing an app). It’s 2025 and these things should have been solved by now. It’s not a perfect process, nor a particularly smooth one.
Overall this is a RECOMMENDed printer from me. Because of the price, I can overlook the touchscreen and wonky thin tray.

My new favorite MFP

This Brother MFC-J4355DW showed up packed well with no damage and everything nice and secure.
Nothing too difficult with the setup out of the box. I tried to do the setup from the front panel but ran into some issues when I got to the WiFi setup. Could have been just me not doing something right so I installed the software package on my PC and continued there. No issues with the software setup, it does take some time, and plan on some time to load the cartridges, do the test print and alignment scan, etc. When you are all done.. Waaallaaa.. This thing works great. It’s great that you can actually see the ink in the cartridge and realize you are getting liquid ink and not just a wet sponge. The claim is 1800 page yield from the included black cartridge, and 750 page yield from the colors. That is like a lifetime supply for me, so time… I hope a long time… will tell.
Another awesome feature, no online account setup required. I did have to set a password for the printer during the setup, but wasn’t forced into any online account or subscription setup. You do however, have the option to sign up for ‘Refresh EZ Print Subscription’ and have ink auto shipped to you when you run low.
This Brother 4355dw is FAST. After letting the MFP sit idle for a day where it should have been ‘sleeping’, I went to print a page, sat down at my PC, opened the doc and hit print. About 2 seconds later the printer made a noise like it woke up, and a second or 2 later my entire page had spit out. For comparison my last printer when you hit print, would spend about 2 minutes clickin clackin moaning and groaning before the paper finally started coming out.
I only have 2 small nit pics. The front panel looks a little dated, the color LCD is nice, but it’s not touchscreen, you have to use the arrows and ok buttons to navigate. The number keypad would probably be nice if you are using this as a fax machine, but I have no use for that feature. The only other minor grip I have is that the power cord is permanently attached. This is fine if the cord reaches your outlet but sometimes it’s nice to be able to buy a longer power cord if needed rather than having to add an extension cord.
Hopefully in the long term this MFP stays true to its claims of page yields, but as of now I love it and give it 5 stars all day long.

Great Print Quality, But Expensive Ink

While Brother is not my ‘go to’ brand I prefer when it comes to home office printers, I have owned them before and they are a good choice to consider.
Setting up this printer was a simple step by step procedure. You will need to install the Brother Mobile Connect App (for IOS/Android), and create an account if you don’t already have one. Make sure to follow the steps and allow the printer to do any necessary firmware updates. It’s important to run the calibration You can also download the Brother Utilities software for use with your Windows PC.
This Brother prints fast, and runs quieter than my previous ‘other brand’ printer. The color display is easy to navigate, with ink levels shown right there on the main screen. You are able to print via the top paper feeder or bottom paper tray. There is a handy photo paper loader at the back of the printer, but of course, you can also print photos using the paper tray, as well.
The feature I missed not having on my previous printer was being able to fax from home. The one time I needed to fax some forms to my bank I was shocked at how expensive that would be as a service provided by my local shipping/stationery stores. However, while this Brother INKvestment MFC-J4355DW Color Inkjet All-in-One Printer does have that feature, I don’t have a phone landline, and so would need to set up a VOIP through my ISP in order to fax from my mobile device; as a helpful customer service rep informed me.
Of course, there is the option to sign up for the Refresh EZ Print Subscription, with several sub levels based upon your ink usage. The amount of printing I do on a semi-regular basis doesn’t make this a viable option for me. But for students and those needing to do routine printing for with work/business, an ink subscription may be a more convenient way to receive auto deliveries when ink begins to run low, and to save money.
Final Thoughts - While I really do like this printer, I’ve found the cost of replacement ink cartridges for this model to be more expensive than I’d have expected, which diminishes my recommendation for this Brother MFC-J4355DW printer. So do keep that in mind if you aren’t going to signup for the EZ Print Ink Subscription.

Versatile Home Office Printer

Brother is one of the more reliable printer brands on the market. Our previous Brother AIO (All-In-One) printer lasted us over 10 years.
This printer will do it all from printing to scanning to copying in black and white or color to faxing to scanning to the web. That being said, I do wish their built-in screen was a bit larger and easier to navigate, but once set up, you likely won't need to use the screen for anything other than informational messages.
Quick buttons for copying (a button for color copies and a button for black and white) are a must for an AIO. Additionally, it is foolish to buy a copier that doesn't have an automatic document feeder. This machine can handle up to 20 pages for copying or scanning through the ADF.
Setup was relatively easy with an option to do it via an app or via the built-in screen. I used the "old fashioned way" (via the printer's built-in screen) and, while a bit of a challenge to key in my complex home network password, setup was, overall, easy. A QR code is displayed if you want to use your phone to assist in the process.
The output speed is good in "normal mode" and the quality is adequate in normal mode. Changing to high quality (for photos, stickers, etc.) slows the output considerably but also ensures a nice, bold product.
The single sheet, manual feed (a must for me) is on the backside of the printer and is way easier than taking your 150 sheet feeder out to load a single piece of paper.
The replacement ink won't be as cheap as other inks you will see on the shelf, but keep in mind that the 3pk of colors will generate an average of 1500 pages of output--way more than your traditional inkjet printer cartridges. Black will kick out up to 2500 pages.
Scanner resolution is up to 1200x2400 which is better than some entry-level AIO printers.
You can print from a mobile device via AirPrint or the Brother Mobile Connect app. 2.4/5ghz wifi connectivity--or wifi direct...or USB. Connecting to Windows 10/11 is a piece of cake with my Windows computer finding the device without issue.
Lastly, kudos to Brother for adding a PASSWORD feature to the printer to prevent unauthorized users from connecting to the printer! I likely won't turn that on here at home, but it is nice to know that they are thinking about device security at Brother. And of course, the ability to connect directly to your favorite cloud source (i.e. Google Drive) to scan and upload documents to online storage eliminates dropping a copy of the scan to your computer first before uploading. The big names are all included as options for "scan to cloud."
Overall, assuming this printer holds up as well as my last Brother AOI, this should be a perfect home office fit for many years! I recommend this printer for casual, home office/student use.
[One last thought...Inkvestment is NOT a subscription service. Unlike some other brands, you do not have to subscribe to a monthly ink service or let the app monitor/ship ink as needed.]

This brother printer does a great job. Prints very quickly double sided.
First I mist talk about the set up. It was extremely difficult to set up this print and connect to WiFi. The directions need some work. There are no directions for how to set up WiFi and connect to mobile app. The screen display is too small. The directions tell you to scan the code and follow the directions, which were not very clear. After lots of trial and error I was finally able to connect. Once connected I was able to print the test sheets with no problems.
There are 4 ink cartridges which were pretty easy to install. The directions were not good, but easy enough to figure out. It looked like a piece was supposed to come off, but it was actually the way cartilage was made. I initially thought it was a cap.
The print quality is decent, not as crisp as I expected, but still good. The color is also not as rich as I would
like, but still decent.
Overall I do like this printer. It also scans, which is a plus. The paper tray holds a decent amount of paper and has settings for smaller sizes of paper. Very nice feature. The actual printer is a nice size. It first perfectly on my table. I have another Brother printer and like being able to have both printers on the same app.
Overall this is a nice printer. It gets the job done nicely.

I have owned a couple products from Brother about 15 years ago. At the time, the printer I had worked very well and I was impressed with the print quality, especially in color. Now, 15 years later, I have this new one from Brother. It is a really nice all-in-one. Once I unboxed it and put it where it is going, I started the setup process. Setup is pretty straightforward and easy to do on the lcd screen. I got it connected to my network and then added it to my devices on my PC and laptop. I printed a few different things on it from simple black text documents to colorful pictures. It performed well. The print quality is really good. It also prints pretty quickly. The copy and scan functions work very well also. I scanned some receipts that I keep and they uploaded to my PC without issue and were very clear and easy to read. I like the size of the tray because I won't have to refill the paper often, for my needs. My favorite part is the wireless capabilities. I keep this in a closet with my modem and router. It's nice not having to clutter my desk. The Brother app is pretty cool. I don't know if this is something I would use regularly but it's definitely a nice thing to have the ability to use it while on the go. Overall, I am very happy with this all-in-one.

The Brother INKvestment 4355 All-in-one printer is a great printer, but there are a few things that I don't like.
The 4355 printer is loaded with features, many of which are very useful. The printer is wireless, has a built-in scanner, document feeder, double sided printer, and even a fax machine. The printer is easy to set up, you can do it from the printer itself, or you can use the brother app.
The printer comes with all starter cartridges you need to print up to 1500 pages, give or take depending on how you print. The printer can print letter documents surprising fast, and it can do 2-sided printing. The printer really shines when printing images, the image quality is really good. Colors appeared bright and the image quality in general was very sharp.
The Brother app that is used to control many of the wireless functions, looks very outdated. It’s laggy and slow, the design of the app just looks old. It definitely needs an update. My biggest complaint about the printer is the cartridges, it’s not so much the volume of the ink but the cost of the replacement cartridges, they can be expensive.
Overall, The Brother INKvestment 4355 is a great printer that produces some amazing quality images, has a scanner, document feeder and even a fax machine. The companion app isn’t so great and feel very outdated. But the biggest downside is the cost of the replacement cartridges. If that doesn’t bother you, then this is a fantastic printer.

Inkjet printers have come a long way

I haven’t owned an inkjet printer in at least 20 years but heard about these refillable cartridges that supposedly don’t dry out and are much cheaper to operate than the cartridges of the old days. Furthermore, the starter cartridges are supposedly good for 700 color and 1500 pages! That’s a lifetime of casual printing for me.
I have a Brother color laser already but most sticker, photo, and specialty paper is for inkjet printers only. This should fill the gap for all my printing needs.
Opening the box, first surprise was the telephone jack (lol) for fax. It also has a 2nd jack so you can daisy chain your phone. There’s a scanner and the whole thing feels like standard issue printer plastic. If you’re familiar with Brother printers, this one feels the same. Only difference is the little display it isn’t touchscreen like my laser, but there are a lot more buttons.
Set up took about 10 minutes. There’s a QR code on screen to download the Brother app which connects to WiFi, has you install the cartridges (shake before installing!), fills the reservoir, updates firmware, and a prints test page and an alignment page that you put into the scanner. Nice.
I printed a full page color photo of my wife on cheap paper and it came out super slightly moist but didn’t smudge. Colors looked great and it finished in under a minute. I was shocked considering full page photos growing up took a half hour (according to my memory, at least).
My favorite feature (and I’m used to this from my Brother laser printer) is that it shows up in my iPhone as a printer right away. AirPrint works great, super easy.
Excellent product!

Over the years I have tried many different printer brands and types. Although laser with undoubtedly rank supreme, I can understand that is not feasible or the right choice for everyone. When it comes to photo printing, inkjet is also preferred. This is a small printer with all the capabilities of a full size laser printer. It's good for a home office, which is my current use. I would not recommend it for a full home office/small business (as your primary).
Features: The printer literally does it all except double sided copy and scan. That is a bigger downside for some, but for me I can definitely live without it. The inclusion of fax is a huge plus. Although a rare need these days, it is still important for me to have as an option. The super flexibility via WiFi, ethernet, or USB is simple to use. Overall, I don't think this misses on anything major.
Printing: A little slower than I'd like, but if you're not printing over 50 pages at a time, it should be okay. If you are or are printing a lot more or very frequently this is not for you. The quality is great for black and color. There are many options to adjust the print quality. I also tried out photo printing on regular and photo paper. This came out quite well.
Multifunction: This is where this little unit stands out. The scan and copy features work essentially with really good quality. I can quickly make copies and have good quality scans ready to go.
Ink: Great quality, I've printed 500 black and white and 400 color pages. No degradation and the black shows over 2/3 left and the color shows over 1/2. Definitely getting a lot more use than a standard inkjet.
Overall, this is a workhorse printer for a personal office, small home office, or other non-high volume settings.

Like most folks, I have had my fair share of printers throughout my life. I have had toner, inkjet, etc. All have their own pros and cons to ownership. The my previous printer was a very basic printer. It used some very common ink that I could get at most stores and I am thankful that I could. As a household with musicians, I am constantly printing out sheet music for multiple people. I am constantly running out of ink! Even when I select just black, I somehow would still run out of cyan, magenta, and yellow. Luckily with the Brother INKvestment 4355 my worries are a thing of the past.
The INKvestment uses a newer technology with larger reservoirs that allow for more pages per tank and more continuous printing. I have so far run about 500 pages through and I have not made a dent in my overall capacity. With my old printer I would have had to replace multiple cartridges. I am looking forward to seeing just how many pages I will be able to print with this new printer.
I have not tired anything other than sheet music so far, but I wouldn't doubt that the Brother INKvestment would be able to handle it with ease.
Network setup was a breeze and I have not had any issues with wireless printing. I felt that I usually run into software issues with other printers. This has been a wonderful new addition to my home and I would gladly recommend this to my friends and family.

I have been wanting to get another printer for a while now. Brothers brand I know of as my wife sews and loves their machines, so took a chance with their printer.
I personally love that they still went with buttons. The screen is tiny, but you can use your phone app to pretty much do everything anyways with. I love the buttons though, as I feel like sometimes trying to use a touchscreen over time can seem that you have to start pressing on the screen harder to get it to recognize what you did.
My last printer did not do complete borderless. I think it was 1/4 inch or something. This does borderless which has come in handy when we have printed out bulletins.
This has an app that walked you thru setting up. I think it took about 10-15 min to set up with updating firmware and things. After that, it was easy to find the printer with other devices and start using.
coloring seems to be pretty solid as well. I would not say this was the best in color quality for photos, but it was still pretty decent.
I think what I personally like the best with this printer is that I get the best of both worlds as far as you have your traditional buttons to push, or you can use your phone app and use that for touchscreen if you prefer that.
My only gripe I would say, is the screen is small. I feel like they could have made it a bit bigger. I feel there is plenty room that they could have added a bigger screen.
Hopefully this last longer for ink as my father-in-law has to print pages for his job every night. Our other printer seems to need replaced every other month.
Highly recommend.

Great small footprint printer that can do it all

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I've had this printer for a couple weeks and it's been great to use.
The unboxing was incredibly easy. It comes fully assembled and in a bag you just lift out of the box.
Setup was quick with answering a few questions on the screen or using the Brothers app on you phone or PC. The ink cartridges go in very easily and are clearly marked. The black cartridge space has a lot of room that looks like it could take one of the very high yield cartridges in the future.
Connecting to the network is easy. I initially used the USB to connect to my computer but it was very easy to connect to Wifi also and do all the printing through there. The Wifi connection also makes it easy to update Firmware.
I didn't use the Wifi Direct connection but that is available. Printing from the phone with the app is pretty easy and convenient also.
The scanner is quick and clear. It's about the same noise level as all the other printers/scanners I've had. The ADF on top works well and is very convenient if you're scanning 1 sided.
The apps work well and are clear to use. The scanner is easy to get around and adjust settings if you want to get a slightly clearer scan on something.
I don't have a phone line so couldn't test the fax but if you need fax I don't know of many smaller devices being built with fax anymore so this would be a good option.
Overall I really like this printer and have had great success with Brother printers in the past so I'm looking forward to this one.

A compact all-in-One Printer that does it all

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
It seems that finding a compact all-in-one printer with everything is more difficult these days. Some have most features, but one with this footprint is usually missing something. This one does it all and does it well.
The printer is fairly quiet, yet fast. The setup takes care of connecting to a home network and walks through everything needed to be up and running. The calibration takes a while to complete, but the outcome results in a very nice print output. Make sure to update the firmware to the latest release during the setup. There were two updates if I recall. One during setup and another fairly soon afterwards.
The phone application is very simple and straight forward. I enjoy having the ability to print straight from my iPhone. I have experienced distorted printing from my phone with other printers, but not this one. Everything prints true to size. I do not have an Android phone to test with.
The copy function worked very well with both color and black and white copies and the sheet feeder is a must have for copying and scanning. The panel is very clear to understand and it's bright and easy to read.
The paper tray is small, but that is to be expected for a printer this compact. This is the perfect all-in-one for a smaller office or a home office.

Ink last longer that what I expected

I got the Brother INKvestment 4355 and used it for a couple of months. I wanted to have enough time using it before writing an honest review about it. Setup was really easy and I can get the job done even with the small color screen. I am a student and most of the time I need to print directly from my phone. This printer can get connected to the WIFI quick and I could also print form the app and cloud.
The print quality is solid with a nice and sharp black color. I like the contrast it has which makes the colors look good for chart, report and even photos. The auto duplex printing is great because it help saving paper and the paper feeder is also big enough so I dont need to add paper every time. Only downside is it doesn’t do double-sided scanning, which would’ve been nice.
Ink last longer that what I expected and refills aren't too expensive and can be found anywhere. Print speed is decent too, nothing crazy fast but perfectly fine for home office work.
Overall I am super happy with it and it is the best printer that I have had so far. it has a nice features with a good price. The only minor gripe is the small screen, but honestly, it hasn’t been a dealbreaker at all.

I absolutely love this printer. I’ve owned this model a couple of times or one exactly like it and it’s ole’ reliable. I’ve done school work, office work, and now my own business’s work. It’s always sitting there ready for me to AirPrint away. I’ve a whole Mac ecosystem (video editing) and I love that I can have someone send a file over and I can print it and it’s so fast that by the time I get to the room where the printer is located, it’s already done. What more can you want? It’s a printer, a fax machine, and a scanner. Can you say “SWISS ARMY KNIFE”? This thing can do it all. Albeit I haven’t used the fax feature since I’ve really no need for it as of yet. I can also attest to the scanning feature being reliable and of high quality. You can change all the settings in the printer or the application on your computer. Like I had hinted towards earlier, this printer not only good but it’s a crutch to what I feel like a burden already juggling what I do. It’s nice to have something that always works. Heck even my label maker is a brother. Three thumbs up.

I've owned a lot of printers throughout the past 30 years. Some were great but others were pretty bad. Brother printers have proven to be the most reliable printer I've had over the last 10 years. My new INKvestment 4355 printer is smaller than past Brother printers I've owned but it is still a very solid workhorse. I got rid of my last printer (from another manufacturer) after just two years. The ink cartridges for many of the leading brands just don't last very long and are extremely expensive (it's the "give away the razor, sell the blades" philosophy for other leading brands).
This Brother printer has already churned out over 200 pages of copies and the ink tank is hardly down at all. It prints quickly for a printer of this size. Setup was easy. I had to update my password from past Brother apps but that was easy as well. I tried scanning a few documents and it was simple whether it was starting a scan on the printer screen or starting a scan on the app.
If Brother keeps making quality printers like this, I will continue being a loyal Brother customer. This is an excellent printer - and a great value for the price.

This Brother Inkvestment printer has been a great addition to my little office. There are two people that share use of this for a local brewery. We mostly use this to scan items needed for business purposes, but we do use it to print receipts pretty often as well. I like that it is a bit smaller than our old printer. but can still hold a decent amount of paper in the tray. it hooked up pretty easily to the wifi and has worked great since. once we send a document it prints very fast and hasn't jammed yet. I do like the button pushes and the USB connction. I do hate hat it uses a cartridge instead of bottles. for some reason the cartridges just make me annoyed since I can never tell how much is really left and they are ALWAYS SO EXPENSIVE. :-(
I would definitely recommend this Brother Inkvestment4355 printer if you are looking for a printer / scanner / all-in-one brother to help at home or in a small office. This has been a great addition and we can't wait to use it more as we get busier.
