I didn't know what to expect when starting Bugsnax but I had a lot of fun with it. It's a first person adventure collection game where you traverse an island to hunt creatures called bugsnax, all while solving the mystery of the island and its inhabitants. The game progresses through quests and side missions and becomes hard to put down as you just want to do "one more" before stopping. The characters are interesting (often funny) and I was very surprised at the quality of the voice work. The story is simple and even a little dark at times. Visuals and sound are great, though there is some graphical pop-in here and there, and larger areas or areas with a lot of objects can suffer from frame issues. Controls are fine, though not having gyro aiming is a missed opportunity. The biggest problem with the game is its long load times on Switch, which is especially noticeable when going to the village in town (more so as it develops and more characters populate it) These things didn't hamper the experience too much, though I imagine things are smoother on other platforms. Still highly recommended.

Good game with an interesting concept. Good for adults and older kids with a higher level of maturity. Some realitivily mature themes. The game play can be frustrating at times.

My 11-year-old daughter loves it and is obsessed with knowing about all the characters. It reminds me of when she liked Pokémon (well, I guess she still does).

My sons (12&4) both enjoy the game. Seems to be easy enough or enjoyable enough for young or older kids.
