Returned
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had really high hopes on this one but sadly a mr coffee would have given me the same experience. The espresso poured out the seams instead of streaming down the spout causing a mess to clean coffee grinds all in my coffee not just a few …a lot! The best part of this whole machine was the steam wand. It was so easy to clean and worked so well better then any of my previous machines. Bottom line I returned this item!

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this for our Daughter & Son in law for Christmas as they just redid their Dining room & wanted an Espresso Bar. Did a lot of research & the reviews were not wrong. They love it and although they’re still experimenting I’m glad I chose this over Breville, DeLongi. Got it on a great sale which made it even better.

Nice home espresso machine!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While my family has always enjoyed espresso-based drinks from various coffee shops, we've never had an espresso machine at home, until getting this Calphalon machine. While it certainly takes a little more work to make these drinks yourself, we've been pleased with the outcome of our drinks! Following are some pros and cons we found with this espresso machine: Pros: - Fairly compact machine, not much larger than our pod coffee machine, so it doesn't take a lot of room on our counter. - The User Guide has easy to follow instructions. (Make sure you read all the steps in the guide before you start the process of making a drink, as there are a lot of steps.) - There are several processes to make a beverage, but the guide provides step by step illustrations from start to cleanup. - Clean up is easy, however, note that the portafilter, drip tray, tampac and water reservoir are not dishwasher safe, so you must wash those parts by hand. - Has a nice cup warming tray feature. - Convenient storage in the back of the drip tray for the one or two shot filter baskets and cleaning pin so you can keep all parts together with the machine. - The drip tray has a water level indicator which lets you know if the tray is full of water and needs to be emptied. - Easy to read light indicators. - It was a fairly quick process to prime the machine, which is done one time before first use. - The Trouble Shooting Guide was very helpful, I recommend reading it through before first use, as there are some good tips. - Most importantly, it made good espresso drinks! It gives instructions on how to make all the different types of drinks you would order at a coffee shop. I'm partial to the Vanilla Latte's, but we have tried several different drinks and they have all turned out very good! Cons: I'm not sure that these things are so much cons as they are things to be aware of. - It is a 17 step process from beginning to end. I doubt this is much different than any other espresso machines. Baristas make it look so quick and easy, but there are a lot of steps to it. We had to follow along in the user guide several times to get the hang of it. It took us quite a while to make a drink the first few times, but it gets easier and you get faster as you keep practicing and making them. - We had a little trouble at first in aligning, inserting and positioning the portafilter into the locking position. It doesn't easily turn in order to lock into position. We seem to have the hang of it now, but it takes a little practice also. - We had a little difficulty learning how to properly froth the milk. Even following the instructions we don't always get a nice amount of foam. Each time it seems to get better, so the more you do it the better you'll get. The trouble shooting guide gave a tip to chill the frothing pitcher before use and this did seem to help in creating foam. Just keep practicing as it gets better each time. Ultimately, we have been very happy with the drinks we have made with this espresso machine, which is what really counts. If you like espresso drinks, this will make a nice home unit for you.

Great, but not all stainless steel
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really love how fast it heats and I can have an espresso like in less than 5 minutes, I thought it was stainless steel the canister where you put the coffee, but I just notice the inside border is having some rust, not happy at all about that, will have to see about the warranty.

Broken at 1 week of use
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good espresso for 1 week, It stop working at 1 week of use. Beside, if you use to 1 cup only, it is very difficult because the 2 shots are so apart from each other that it is almost impossible to get the 2 stream inside 1 espresso cup, unless you hold the cup up so the 2 shot-dispenser get inside the cup.

I want to love this machine, but…
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I want to love it. Especially at this price tag. However, I just can’t. For starters, I’m not necessarily new to coffee. I’m not a full-on professional barista by any means, but I’ve used smaller espresso machines in the past (pump and steam pressure). My daily bangers are my aeropress, French press or a pour-over. Two different water kettles. I use a mokapot occasionally. I also have a $200 Breville grinder that I love that I bought with this espresso machine - so a $500+ total investment. I’ve had this setup since March. I’ve given it plenty of time. I’ve gone through more coffee beans than I care to even think about. With the Breville grinder, I’ve tried every grind size from 5 to 35. I’ve changed the internal burr grind setting, I’ve used 10 grams of ground coffee up to 25 grams with the double filter. I’ve tamped hard all the way down to literally using just the weight of the tamp itself and spinning for distribution. Nothing I do matters. I either get a watery mess or an under-extracted pull. There has yet to be one single hope-giving mediocre 1 or 2 ounce pull. I’m starting to suspect that I have a faulty pump. I did buy the two-year replacement warranty with this, so I might just exchange it and sell the new one brand new in the box and invest in a different machine. I gave it this much time because I kept seeing the glowing reviews and thought there was something wrong with my methods, so I would go back and make small changes, every change imaginable, to try and dial in even an okay shot to no avail. I’m not at all doubting everyone else is having a great experience with this machine. Again, it’s entirely plausible that I simply have a faulty unit. But, after blowing through yet another pound of beans, I can’t continue with this one.

Great espresso machine for those with limited room
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First, the espresso machine itself is not as large as I had thought. The machine looks quite nice. The stainless steel looks great. It looks very similar to an espresso machine you would see at your local coffee shop. Having never owned an espresso machine before, I was very careful the first time I tried using all of the features. (I don't have a coffee bean grinder, so I went to my local store and bought ground coffee) I plugged the machine in, turned the power on, and set the dial to "ready." Once both lights were lit, it was time to prep and make some coffee. I placed the coffee into the portafilter, pressed the coffee as much as I could, placed the portafilter in place and locked it, turned the dial to 2 shots, and the machine started shaking and making espresso. I like that you can make two shots of coffee at a time rather than just one. This made it easier to make more drinks when I had guests over. To make some lattes, I poured some milk into the steel milk pitcher and placed it under the steam wand. I turned the dial to steam, and slowly moved the pitcher around to allow the steam to cover as much of the milk as possible. The milk was foamy and hot. The only real oddity in this whole machine is the hot water feature. The water squirts out of the steam wand, and it takes quite a bit of time due to the thin stream. That's me just being nitpicky. All in all, this is a great little espresso machine with all of the tools you need to make some great tasting espresso. Now, I will be investing in a bean grinder, and I will try higher quality coffee in the future. Considering I used pre-bagged/pre-ground coffee, it was pretty good. I'm guessing that if the beans were ground even finer, that the taste would have been better. *Tip - Try to use filtered water for your coffee.*
