A very good scanner for copying slides and prints

I bought this scanner to digitize my slide and print collection. It worked even better than I had anticipated. It can scan 4 slides at once and then creates 4 separate images that you can then edit. Editing features include rotating, flipping (a mirror image of the slide), cropping, and enhancing. The ArcSoft enhancing software can turn a faded or discolered image into a like-new one. I scanned over 1000 slides in around a week and a half by working in batches. I also discovered that when editing a batch it saves a lot of time if you open all the images at once and then work backwards editing them. In closing, when I was researching what to buy to scan my slides I read a lot of negative comments about various scanners but I can truthfully say the Canon 5600F is a quality scanner. I recommend it.

I have purchased a scanner before and this scanner is the best one around within my limited budget. The quality is great and it also have the option to scan film strips negative and slides. Resolution is also great, you don't need 600x600 for regular scanning, but you do need it when doing negatives and slides.

I encountered only one problem...I was unable to get scanner to
function with my laptop (Vista Home OS). Installed software on my
"old" computer running XP. Scanner has worked flawlessly since.
I have scanned about 400 slides so far and I am impressed with
the quality. I have also scanned color negative and B&W negative
film with excellent results. This is still a "new toy" , thus I am still
learning what it will do and how to do it. I would not hesitate to
recommend this scanner.

The unit is a bit big but very solidly built. Installation was quick and easy but had to download latest drivers to work properly under WIN8. Scans of photos and paper text documents are very high quality with excellent resolution. It comes with an adapter for scanning slides and negatives. I have yet to try this however.

I am happy with this scanner. The scanned images are high quality and the software seems easy enough to use for simple scans. I have not tried complicated adjustments, so I don't know how easy that will be if I need to do it.
The size is a little big, but not crazy. This thing is heavier than it looks (it doesn't feel cheap), so moving it around a bunch is a bit of a task. The lid being heavy may sound like an odd complaint, but I use this for online banking and I have to swap out multiple checks from my wife's business and it is a bit of a chore swapping them out. For someone who is planning on scanning hundreds of pictures it is something you will notice. Finally, concerning speed...I gave it 5 stars because the speed is good for what I'm using it for, but if you think you are going to scan in a bunch of negatives this will take forever. I tried the negative scanning just to mess with it, and it takes about 12 minutes to scan in one 4 picture strip at the highest quality setting. I figure if you are trying to get digital back-up of your negatives you will want to use the highest setting. I didn't mark it down because it doesn't affect me and I don't think many people will buy this scanner for negative scanning. If you do...it works well, it's just slow.
I gave it 5 out of 5 stars even though there are some things that are not great because it does what I need it to do and I think most people would consider those things minor, but nice to know before you buy.

We wanted the scanner to be able to scan in comics, doodles and other stuff that we draw on paper. The scanner is doing what we want, so that's great.
It was easy to set up and it didn't take too long to figure out what software package to rely on and the settings needed for the images we were dealing with, but why two different packages? Just put in the best software and be done with it.
The machine is noisy when scanning. I have nothing to compare too, so that's all I can say about that. The option to have music playing while scanning is cute.
Page bleed through was bad. My daughter has resorted to only drawing on one side of a page. (standard notebook paper.) Again, I have nothing to compare to, so this might be normal.
The image quality is great for us.

Excellent scanner I am very happy...easy to use...directions took only a few minutes to read...high quality scanning and includes software to edit pictures...scans old photos easily and negatives too...it is large and heavy so you just need some room on your desk to work with or a place to store it

Cyber Lessons

I'm a musician and teacher. In my teaching of drums I use a number of resources to teach to the strengths of my students. This had become a burden and expense, and a storage issue. So I looked for an alternative that would help me. I came up with the idea of "Cyber Lessons". I needed a quality scanner...I looked around and ended up with the Cannon 5600F.
I have used it for a month or so and I found that the 5600F is just what I needed. The operation is easy, the quality is excellent. It's fast and not overly noisy, the copy is perfect. It was easy to set up and use... Now I don't have to handle a ton of paper and my students don't have to carry and take care of their lesson material, it's all on their computers.

I've finally found a scanner for slides!!!!!!!!

I have 1200 slides to scan for my fathers birthday. I started with an Epson Perfection which did okay but was extremely slow. After 400 slides it gave out. Purchased an HP 3110 at competitor store and spent first 6 hours of ownership on phone with HP in India about extremely serious software issues, which they could not resolve. Returned. Purchased the Cannon 5500f, loaded software, plugged in, and have been happily scanning ever since. Scans at much better quality and 1/4 the time over Epson. NO glitches, no software issues. Excellant machine.

This scanner is amazing. I just finished scanning 100 photos and I enhanced them in about a half an hour.It takes about 2 seconds to warm up. The enhancing software that comes with it, woks amazing. It will bring all your old phot's back to life. Canon knows how to make a reliable product at a resonable price.

The Best Slide Scanner Ever!

I bought this scanner just for scanning some family slides from the 60's after having tried one of the cheap standalone slide scanners that was junk. I have had scanners before and found them to be slow and clunky cheap devices with limited quality. This was not the case with this thing! I had it set up and was easly scanning slides in 15 min. The scanner scans slides in hi res at fast automated rate. It also has a light inside the lid to project light through the slides for scanning them wich most other units dont. The scanner adjusts the light brightness for each scanning run. Slides turned out better than some of my 10 megapixal camera photos! cant wait to see what it does with regular photos.

Love this scanner, used it to digitize all my old photos. The great thing is, you can scan more than one picture at a time and it's smart enough to create separate files for each picture on the glass. The size of the scanner is a little large so you'll need to give up some room on your desk.

The image quality is quite good and the automatic settings give excellent results. But when you want to preview the image before doing something with it, you are thrown into a user interface which is confusing and the preview image seems quite insensitive to the adjustments in color, contrast, etc.

This is the first scanner we have bought and at first I was ready to buy a cheaper one but took an uneducated guess on this one instead. So far I'm glad we did, installation was a breeze and it is very easy to get going with it straight away.
I'm not sure I like all of the folder layouts it provides on screen when you scan a photo/document but I guess thats pretty trivial when it does the job Canon sell sit to do very well. We're happy with it so far, we only bought it today but have scanned a whole bunch of stuff with it already.

Great Negative Film Scanner

The main reason I purchased this item was to scan my negatives from over forty years of photos. I am a beginner, but knew that I needed to uncover Precious Memories that could never be recaptured. It was so easy to set up and get going, and I immediatly started scanning envelopes of film strips. It was amazing the quality that you instantly get and how easy fixing scratches or faded color was.
I have alot of work ahead of me, I've only had this a couple of weeks. But I couldn't be more pleased with this scanner. Best project I've started and truly a great product to handle the job.

As in t he Q & A, I prefer not to have multi-function units. This allows for film negative & mounted slids as well in one nice unit. My previous scanner did not have an on off switch like this does! The directions could be put together a little better. [Retired high school tutor] I enjoy using this unit.

Have used this for scanning older pics from the 60s and 70s and very satisfied with the results. Haven't gotten to slides and film (of which I have many to do), but I'm sure this will handle anything I need to do. If not, will post it here. For me, a very good purchase. I give it a very good rating.
