The lens isn’t the sharpest in the bag. The edges will bend and the USM isn’t a real USM. But I love this lens. It’s faster to focus than the 1.8 and the 1.4 bokeh is amazing. This lens made me fall in love with my camera all over again

If you're looking to get that professional touch to your every day photographs, take more low light pictures without a flash, and don't have $1200 to drop on Canon's f1.2 50mm, this is an awesome lens. It will show you the true power of DSLR and why cell phones will never replace a dedicated camera system. Be aware, this is a tool designed to do a specific task, there's not zoom function, no wide angle mode, you'll need a different lens for that.

Had the 50mm 1.8 and finally got to upgrade to the 50mm 1.4. I'm really enjoying be able to shoot with more natural light. Looking forward to taking some Christmas light shots here in the next week or so. If you can, just go the little bit extra and get this one instaed of the 1.8. This lens is a bit more sturdy. I liked my 50mm 1.8, and the price was great, but I had went through two of them and just felt with all the other reviews that it was time to upgrade. Very glad I did.

This is my new favorite lens. I use it everywhere I go especially when I know it has dark lighting.

This is a great lens. If you are debating between the nifty 50 (f 1.8) or this, and you have the extra money, it is well worth it. The only recommendation I would make is that if you are not using a tripod, I would not use a shutter speed any slower than 1/60. Otherwise your pictures will turn out blurry due to the lack of IS.
