For distances from 75-~200mm, this is a great lens and very sharp (for the price). Fully extended, however, it is very soft and because of the low maximum aperture and lack of IS, it is hard to hold it still. If you plan on using this mainly in very bright areas (outdoors during the day) it will be a great beginners lens.

This is a great lens. I see people complaining that the autofocus takes to long. I don't think two seconds is long at all. The lens is great at close and long ranges. It is a great buy if you can't afford the IS lens.

Some contend this is a great lens for beginners, but I tend to disagree. The aperture is extremely slow in almost any lighting which makes taking crisp photos extremely difficult without a solid tripod in use at all times. This lens simply doesn't collect enough light and simply will not allow for fast shutter speeds in all but the brightest of situations. The cheap construction is arguably less important if one takes care of his or her possessions well enough.
Beginners need something that doesn't require extreme care with how the photos are taken, and with the lens one must pay attention or every photo will come out underexposed, blurred from handshake, and distorted due to the large number of elements that make up the lens. Research barrel distortion if you are interested in what the distorted images would look like.

I will say this is a decent budget lens for 70-300 zoom.
HOWEVER if you're expecting great photos you'll more then likely be disappointed.
This lens does what it says it will do. Provide you 70-300mm zoom but if you don't have great lighting you'll be really disappointed in your image quality. Plus you'll lose a lot of detail at 300mm.
I'd say just pay more and buy the 55-250mm lens with is.
BUY THIS AS A LAST RESORT!

Smooth operation, focuses quickly. This lens was a package deal, buy the camera receive the lens, looking for a zoom lens, good deal. The lens zooms in quickly, and the quality of the details are stunning, full of depth.

I got this in an SLR camera package and I am very happy with it. I saved a good deal of money on this lens alone by getting it in the package deal. It works great although I am still learning how to use it to take great pictures.

Bought this before I went on vacation, got some gorgeous photos from my trip. Just make sure you're very steady or use a tripod when using this lens. The price was fair and it has decent zoom.

I read some reviews on here about it being blurry in low light and at the maximum distance and I didn't have much of a problem with that. Yea it's a tad blurry at longer distances but it's nothing that can be fixed in photoshop. I also saw another on here about how they couldn't crop into the subject of their photos without it blurring. From my experience that only happens if you have a small number of mega pixels. My camera has 18 mp and the more mp you have the more you can crop and zoom in on the computer. So it works perfectly for me and my canon rebel t3i. =) Very happy!
The photo I'm attaching was taken from a long ways away and, as you can see, it turned out great. =)

I use my camera lens for everything, mainly baseball games. The image quality is excellent! This lens is heavy-duty. I prefer you to get this if you are looking to capture close up images.

I'm new to DSLR cameras so I'm pretty thrilled with every picture when compared to a point and shoot. However, I mainly use this camera to take photos of my ultimate frisbee team so I need a good zoom lens with quick focus. I've gotten some great shots, but I can definitely see the failings of this lens--no image stabilization.
For the price it is a great value. I'll be sticking with this for awhile, but if I had it to do all over again I would probably pay a little more for a little less zoom with better image stabilization.

I purchased almost a month ago along with the Canon EOS Rebel T2i. Still getting use to it and figuring it out but I am so glad I got it. It gives me the distance I need especially at my kids soccer games.

Canon - EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Telephoto Zoom Lens made a great addition. This was very effective for me to go for the bundle.
I would recommend this product.
