Love the fact that it goes to 300mm but would have been better if it starts from 18mm instead of 75mm which would have been replaced the need to have another lens and changing back and forth.

An excellent starting point in zoom lenses. Very cost effective and a great improvement over the starter lense that the Rebel XT. Very smooth operation and easy to use.

The lense is pretty big and unless you are trying to become a professional or are already one it is kind of hard to use. I like having the option of the larger lense, but we rarely use it.

Great lens to use if youre on a tight budget. Definitely there are better lenses that do alot more for you, but for a good photographer with a steady hand or tripod this is great.

This lens does not rotate smoothly - does anyone else have this problem? The lens on my trusty old Minolta Maxuum 7000 35mm was so smooth it turned almost by itself (alright, it was CONSIDERABLY more expensive). The 75-300mm that comes with the Canon T2i is choppy and does not slide smoothly at all. Is it this one lens or is anyone else finding this issue? I don't have this problem on the shorter 18-55mm lens. Also, a lens lock would be nice to ensure the lens does not expand while carrying it. But if it continues to stick the way it does, I guess a lock isn't necessary as it won't slide open anyway.

This lens is OK for the price and Canon has a good reputation, but I must have gotten one of the few that gets by the quality control people. I noticed this lens being hard to rotate (zoom) when I first bought it, but it did not affect the pictures so I put up with it for a "few months" when I decided to send it in for warranty repair. Then I realized I had had it about 53 or 54 weeks--just out of warranty. I sent it in anyway to see if they would be a really good company and warranty the repair anyway. No such luck. They would repair it but it would cost almost as much as a new lens, so I said "send it back". A few weeks later a couple of what looked like nylon shims worked their way out of the barrel where one part rotates inside another. Guess I'm just having bad luck--the Rebel EOS XTi I am using it on has a flash with a mind of its own, flashing a lot without me taking pictures. Guess I'm spoiled. I used my old totally manual Minolta SLR for 35 years with only a few minor repairs. I would recommend the lens (and the camera), but I would tell them about my troubles with the ones I have.

I bought this len for my wife for Mother's Day since she stated that standard zoom did not allow her to get the close up shots she wanted. I found this item for a great price and we are both very pleased with it.

I purchased this lens after much research because I'd hoped it would be better than everyone was saying. It's not. Without Image Stabilization the photos turn out with a lot of noise. I have a pretty steady hand so I didn't think it would be a problem. I didn't use a tripod so the camera may be fine if you want to carry a tripod around all the time, but really, just spend an extra hundred dollars to get the 55-250mm lens with IS. You don't get as much distance but the IS is very helpful. The lens might be okay for beginners but I am glad I returned it.

For beginners I recommend the Kit that comes with the rebels, a 50mm that sells for $85, and this zoom lens. For the Amateur, jump up to the better lens quality. But this lens is the same size 58mm as the kit, so all of the filters will be interchangable

Haven't used this lens very much yet, but so far it is what I expected: a good, inexpensive beginner's telephoto lens. Since it does not have IS, just like with all telephoto lenses, you must have a steady hand or use a tripod.
