Overall Im satisfied. It will take a while to learn the differences, as I had a Canon 50D previously, but fortunately a lot of things are the same.

After 1 year of intense research, the Canon EOS 7D is a must have. Excellent exposure in Aperture-Priority Mode and other user controlled exposure modes. Less noisy at high ISO. Battery fully charges in less than 2 hours and last about 6 hours with continous shooting. Great at high ISO. Produces razer cut images at fast shutter speed. Less editing required captures detail in color. Not as heavy as I expected. Easy to learn and operate.8 frames per second. AF works perfect on continous shooting. It's costly but worth the bucks. Added images that show detailed settings and results..

A 7D kit is a box of versatility

The 7D body I purchased at Best Buy came with firmware version 1.2.5. Version 2.0 of the firmware was a major update and currently my 7D runs version 2.0.3.
I’m still getting to know this remarkable yet quirky camera. Right off I will say it’s a camera for photographers who shoot RAW or don’t mind learning the advantages of working with Canon’s RAW format. The biggest challenge is getting the most out of 18 megapixels packed into a 1.6x crop sensor. Noise will be an issue but it’s controllable after getting to know the camera. And with noise comes sharpness issues that are best controlled by using the best lenses possible. I have a 20+ year-old EF 50mm f/1.8 prime lens that helps prove that kit zooms aren’t the best way to judge a camera’s IQ.
The EF 28-135mm USM IS kit lens is nice for the price. I chose it over the EF 18-135mm IS bundled with an alternate 7D kit. I like the USM for its quickness, versatility, and decent images. It’s also nice when using manual focus for videos.
The camera is built like a tank, feels snug held in one hand, and at eye level a 100 percent viewfinder is always a good thing. The body itself is light. Attached to the 28-135mm USM IS lens bulks it up a lot. It feels right to me when a prime 50mm is attached — or the plastic EF-S 18-55mm kit lens that came with one of my Rebels.
This is the fastest digital camera I have ever used. Responsive in every way. The camera has two processors , wicked-fast internal buffering, and a burst shooting rate that tripled after updating the firmware.
Although a card reader is more practical, copying files off the camera over USB is faster than I was expecting without being a big drain on the battery.
The Quick Menu button, Info screen, and Multi-controller all work nicely together. Another slick button for avoiding menu digging is the RAW+JPEG button.
Battery life is excellent and charging time is relatively short. Nicely printed manuals in the box that are kept updated online.
And don’t forget the 7D’s internal flash. Not a giant leap in light production but at least a short range flash at-the-ready. Inside the camera’s menus are controls for every type of flash setup connecting to the camera’s hot shoe or sync outlet.
After updating the firmware you’ll need to visit Canon’s support site and update EOS Utility and the other Canon apps. A revised camera manual is also available in PDF format.

Serious Camera even for the Amateur

I wanted a camera that could deliver high speed action for baseball and football games with a WOW! While I had my heart set on a Nikon D7000, I decided to go ask some about which camera can give me what I want for the action shots I want. In this price range, all cameras should give you great portraits and take great shots, but what if you are looking to capture sequential shots of a pitcher and immediately turn to catch the action of a play erupting at second base? Well this is the camera for you if you aren't ready for the pro models but want pro results. Slightly noisy and heavy so a monopod is recommended and don't take it to your library!

Amazing Camera, Even at MSRP!

I was shopping between the 7D and D7000 and had ample time to shoot with both. Being an old Nikon FM user, I thought my biases would have me leaning towards the Nikon but the Canon truly won me over. The canon takes the cake in build quality, ease of use, and in my opinion IQ as well. I really liked how responsive the Canon was and I consistently got more keepers from my sports shots (could be because of the 8fps burst mode). When I handed both cameras over to my wife and had them set in Auto mode and using 50mm primes in both, the difference in IQ was clear to me. The images on the Canon were visibly sharper. In other modes, you can make sharpness adjustments and shoot visibly sharp pics with the D7000, but in auto, the photos just seemed a tad soft. Don't get me wrong, the D7000 is an amazing camera and in capable hands can take tack sharp pics (Low light capabilities gives the D7000 the edge), but when it came to deciding between the two with my wife, the Canon won. You can't go wrong with either, but I recommend the Canon.

I spent 4 months doing research on what DSLR to buy. I checked utube and many other camera websites. My fist choice was the 7D but wanted to do my homework first. I read hundres of reveiws over all models of Canon and Nikkon. In the end I went the 7D and I am absouletely happy with my choice. This camera is crazy good. The picuters are super sharp and the setting are easy to learn and access. After some time playing with it you will be able to change mulitlple setting without missing a beat...it is awesome.
For those of you who were like me reading tons of reviews, read no more. Buy the 7d and you will be blown away by its build quality, image quallity, ease of use and features. Its that easy, buying this camera is a win win. I am super glad I went with this model. It trumps all lower models by light years and beats Nikon in its video.

This camera is a professional level camera. I am not a professional just a hobbyist that was able to finally upgrade and purchase a DSLR. The ease of use for this camera is mind blowing. I assumed that it would take several days to learn how to operate and understand. While I am no expert, I was able to take it out of the box and turn it on and take phenomenal pictures. The manuals and disc that came with the camera were very easy to understand and follow. The camera, itself, is very user friendly. I spent about 2 hours reading the manual (not necessary) while the battery was charging and was able really get the full use of the camera the first time. However, reading the pocket guide would have been sufficient.
As an aside, I gave the camera to my 7 and 10 year old (with supervision) and told them which button to push to take the picture only. They both were able to take perfect pictures every time and they were not in the full auto mode.
I have had this camera for 24 hours and have taken over 200 pictures so far in various light levels and with various camera settings. I would easily recommend this to anyone as a first time DSLR camera. Worth the price.

Amazing camera for a new photographer

This camera is definately not for a beginner. If you are shooting in AUTO, don't waste your money. You should go with a beginner level DSLR. This is my second DSLR and I am completely amazed. I graduated from a Sony a300 to the Canon 7D. It was is a huge difference. The images are so much sharper. I have had trouble with the auto focus not wanting to focus where I need it. And it is slightly difficult to learn how to toggle the focus only using the manual. But, that is a very small issue. This camera is very heavy. You definately don't want to take this big thing on vacation. But it feels very sturdy.
The 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 lens is nice, but it is a kit lens... It is not the quality lens that a professional should be using. I will be upgrading to a f2.8 zoom lens when I can afford it.
The biggest downfall of this camera is the price. But if you are a photographer, you can just consider it an investment.

This camera is amazing. I have been shooting for a few years now and recently upgraded from a Canon Rebel XTi. It is very easy to use if you are already used to using Canon DSLRs. Under low light situations, while using high aperture lenses, ISO can be stepped up to 2000 and still come out crisp with little noise. The 19 point focus is very useful when using AI focusing. The shutter is very fast and quiet. The video mode very sharp and easy to do.

This is an upgrade from a Canon XSi. WOW! What a difference! Along with the purchase I was able to score a 24-105 L IS lens for it. The combination is just awesome.
The auto focus is spot on with any of my lenses (both L and non-L lenses). I get almost all images able to be blown up to 100% with exactly the effects I was trying to achieve. 200% blow ups is not at all unreasonable and is available on more than 1/2 of the images. When combined with 18 MP, it allows for gigantic blow ups!
The dual Digic 4 processors can process images at 8 fps and have all of them razor sharp. It also can really process the images for popping contrast without ever post processing.
The only thing I've been able to fake out is the auto white balance. However, post processing very easily corrects that. The only place it gets iffy is in extreme environments - like today with over 20" snow on the ground so everything was white or white on white (an easy way to fake out WB).
The software supplied is the very capable of corrections and enhancements. I use it frequently for small corrections. Adobe Camera Raw is excellent for post processing.
Only drawback I've had is my version of Photoshop. CS3 won't process the raw images. But that isn't Canon's fault! That is Adobe just being greedy because they want you to buy CS4 for lots of extra money.
The camera is built very well and has great weather resistance. Out in the snow today I didn't worry one bit about the camera or lens. They both did great and at the end of the shoot I went back to the house and dried off the camera and lens with no problems at all.
I would recommend this camera as well as the price of an L lens to anyone who is serious about photography.

I am a professional photographer and I use this camera daily. The only drawback is that it is VERY heavy once you get all the extras on it. However this camera is AMAZING! The pictures are gorgeous and the clarity is amazing. The camera is so quiet and VERY fast! I love, love, LOVE the HD video. One of the best I've seen on a camera so far. I own several other Canons and this is my favorite thus far. It works great for studio work as well as in the field!
