This is a great camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is really a great camera. I couldn't believe how good the pictures are from this camera. And at 8 frames a second its pretty fast. When capturing photos of my sons baseball game I have to use 32GB compact flash cards because at 8F/S a 16GB just wont do. I am not a professional, but this is definitely a professional grade camera.

Great camera.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm an old film camera guy and have wanted to switch to the convenience of digital for quite some time now. However, I either couldn't find a digital camera that offered the capabilities or output quality of my old A-1 or F-2, or I couldn't afford the few digitals that would. I finally saved enough of my pennies to buy a 7D. The camera is phenominal. The image quality is great at all speeds and ISO ranges. It's a little on the pricey side, but just remember, you get what you pay for, and in the long run this camera delivers. I only gave it a 4 on "ease of use." That is because it has so many options it's nearly impossible to remember them all - but not necessarily because it's hard to use (more buttons than an F-15 cockpit!). I've only had the camera for a month so I'm still learning its capabilities, and it's taught me something new every time I've taken it out for a spin. It gives me options/tools I never had before that will enable me to become a better photographer. Bottom line is it's a great camera. The kit lens that came with it is pretty good, but I would certainly recommend buying better optics if you're a pro or serious amatuer (e.g. Canon's L series). It is neither a beginner's camera nor a camera for the timid photographer. If you're a photographer who is serious about his/her work (whether pro or advanced amatuer, or a mid-level looking to be challanged and take your photography to the next step), then give the 7D serious consideration.

Love it all the way.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you want the most out of your camera and shooting abilities, and if you want the best quality and customizing you can get this camera is the one. Speed, megapixels, grip, video, menu and user interface all make this camera the absolute best. Only consider the 5D if you are going to be shooting mostly indoors, macro and portraits and want to preserve your viewing angle and megapixels. I am new to the SLR world but I feel exceptially confidant with every picture i take. Burst shot at 8fps lets you fire away and always get the best shot possible. 18 Megapixels lets you blow up to whatever size you want and have way more room for editing and cropping. The menus are so easy to learn, you can turn pro very quick with the customizing options. Overall good lens it comes with in the kit, recommend looking for additional lens though. Get something with a lower F stop to get great action shots. Overall I am in love with my 7D

Great Camera poor kit lens 28-135
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love my 7D from the day I have had it about three weeks now, Just was amazed at how poor my IQ image quality was. I had try different lens for hours until I found the best tack sharpest picture I expected in this price range and found it. The camera is awesome and the images I have now are tack sharp. After reading about the 28-135 lens being catagorized as a 10 mega pixel lens I drop the setting on the camera to medium and retested the kit lens, it still sucked! Please don't be affraid of purchasing this body just test the lens on it or purchase one that can deliver the kind of photos you would like. I am writing this review so others do not need to go through the difficulty I had to. Test the lens, the Camera 7D is almost perfect in IQ. I tested the Canon 15-85 a new lens and Sigma 17-50 also new. Both of these lens bring all the pixels and produces the great pictures, I did go with the Sigma though. it's f2.8, focus faster and sharper just incase some one would like to know. Please make sure you test your new 7D and especially the lens, I could have gotten a bad copy. but I would like to pass on my experiences.

Great Camera Easy to use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I hesitated to purchase this camera due to the high price but now that the price shock has worn off, I am really glad I purchased it. To date this is the best camera that I have owned – and I have owned many, both digital and film. The reaction time is phenomenal - there is little to no hesitation between shots. This Camera is very easy to use and take excellent shots. The HD movie feature also eliminates the need for me to bring along my other video camera and equipment which makes packing much easier. I have since purchased the high dollar lenses since the picture quality using my older auto focusing lenses with this camera was not as good as the newer auto focus/image stabilizing lenses. I could not be happier.

Great Camera, Excellant Photos, Not for Beginners
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was an upgrade from Canon 50D Great Camera Not light, be prepared for the weight. You should know what you are doing with the different settings and programs. My 50D had more auto programs, made it easier for those lazy days. This is definitely for more professional/serious hobbyist. For a more everyday, go for a Canon Rebel T3i

Great Action DSLR
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're primarily shooting action photography, this is the camera for you. It doesn't have a full-frame sensor, but the images are great and the 1.6x crop factor gives you a bit of boost on magnification. That's a good thing, if you're into wildlife photography. Seriously. It can give you five seconds more to run from the lion that didn't want his photo taken. The downside to the cropped sensor is that you'll probably need to pick up a lens that gets you to 15mm or so, if you decide to shoot landscapes or architecture. Or one of those fisheye lenses, if you-re into the whole bendy-warpy thing. As it was winter when I purchased the 7D, I took it out in sub-zero temperatures. Even operating well outside the listed operating temperatures, the camera, itself, works great. The 28-135mm kit lens did not like the cold, though, so if you're going for -20`F shots, you'll have to switch off the image stablization and possibly the AF or invest in a weather resistant (L-series) lens. The continuous burst is great. Be sure to purchase a compactflash card capable of writing eight / sec, though. In the price range, this is probably the highest burst speed you'll find. Again, great for action photography or moving critters. I, personally, find a few of the buttons to be in difficult locations , and find it annoying that changing AF modes doesn't work like the rest of the options in the quick menu. These are just kind of nit-picky things, though. The important controls are all easy to change on the fly. The camera is a tad heavy, due to it's beefy construction, but it's not overly so. It's still light enough to shoot one-handed. Sum up? If you want a great action / wildlife camera, this is great.

Canon 7D
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a professional photographer / videographer currently running a business at full speed. Shooting sports, weddings & fast moving objects. The burst mode is Excellent! (the reason I purchased) Photos are crisp & clear, even professional racing with cars reaching top speeds at 190 mph. Never planned on using the video feature. Once I tried it, I found myself using it more with great results in video quality. (grab great photos from the video as well) The high megapixel makes it easy frame, crop and zoom without loss of quality. Overall...I'm "So Pleased" with the 7D.

No regrets
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Along with the 28mm - 135 mm L series Canon lens I bought with it as a kit, the EOS 7D takes superbly sharp photos, operates very well in low light conditions without flash and is supremely customizable. There's a lot to learn if you haven't used a DSLR camera before. But you'll be rewarded with great photos and great color. You can take photos in RAW or JPEG. The image stabilization works great with compatible lenses, eliminating blurry images at all but the slowest shutter speeds. You can't go wrong with this purchase.

Made a better pro out of me, into 21st century !!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This canon camera launched me into the 21st century !! I have been useing Minolta for 35 years and made the switch back to Canon ( had a Canon AE Program in 1979 ) and I'm glad to be back. I have nothing negative to say about the new 7D. Very easy to use and takes breath taking photos.

Great camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm using this primarily as a video camera, secondarily as a still camera. The video quality is truly astounding, giving a warm, film-like look to everything I shoot. The exposure control and short depth of field ability of a DSLR in shooting video is superb. Being able to shoot high quality stills in-between video is also great. The video look and quality blows away the high-end, Panasonic pro video cameras we use. I can't overstate how great the video looks off this camera, it's truly amazing. For video, there's a few downsides you have to be aware of though. This is a still camera that happens to shoot incredible video. The zoom ability of most DSLR lenses doesn't provide anywhere near the smooth movement in pro video cameras. It also doesn't have all the same convenient video controls handy, found on high end pro video cameras. Most controls require digging through the menu system. For me, this is more an inconvenience than a deal-breaker. For high quality video with audio, audio recording capability is poor on the 7D. There's a single 1/8 audio input jack. No audio monitor output (a big drawback). And the 7D only provides auto level audio control. For quality video/audio recording, this simply won't do. There's rumor a firmware update is coming allowing audio level control. For now, to get decent audio when shooting video with the 7D, you'll need to consider recording it separately (Zoom's H4n is good), or using a phantom audio device. You'll definitely want a separate mic for all audio recording, as the on-camera mic is poor. The camera is well built, and somewhat hefty. It feels solid and sturdy. For any kind of extended video shooting, you'll want to use a tripod or monopod, as the camera can get heavy holding out in front of you. Overall, this is a fantastic camera for shooting both still and video. As long as you compensate for it's shortcomings (like, audio), should serve you well.

Great Camera to Grow into
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought the 7D 7/3/2010 and since then snapped 1300+ pictures, I normally shoot in the RAW only but when traveling on the road in passenger seat i shoot in Raw and Jpeg. One of the pictures i took with this camera made it on the news which was great. I bought 2 lens with it and they work great. There a lot of functions with this camera and still learning them. It is expensive sticker price for a first DSLR but if you plan to shoot all the time and want to something that will last for years this is the camera for you.

Got this camera after seeing a good friend's pictures and video from his 7D, I have to say that I am extremely impressed. I have not had time yet to go over the learning curve on this unit, but what I have gone over so far is easy. Great unit for the dollar.

Great price, great camera!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Canon EOS 7D is Canon's semi-pro / enthusiast digital crop sensor SLR. It's a terrific SLR that shines in photo quality, control placement, speed, and viewfinder size and coverage. First, let me tell you a little about myself so you can gauge what my expectations for the camera are. I'm strictly a hobbyist photographer and use my camera a couple of times a month at museums, outdoor parks, and vacations. Besides photos of my dog, my photography consists primarily of static subjects. This is my second SLR. Enough of me, onto the camera. The 7D is a fairly bulky SLR and dwarfs "entry level" models such as the Olympus E-510 (see my photos), though it's no bigger than Nikon's D300s. With that said, it's not uncomfortably large and is easy enough to carry around all day. Build quality is terrific and the camera has a solid, luxury feel to it. The 7D fits very well into my average sized hands and, with the kit 28-135 lens, is nicely balanced. All the buttons are easy to reach and, if you've used a Canon camera before, easy to figure out. The magnesium body is sealed against moisture and dust. The shutter button is well placed and has a nicely defined halfway point. A control dial is on the back of the camera and behind the shutter button too. There is also a joystick-like toggle on the back of the camera as well. A large (3") and high-resolution (920,000 pixel) screen is on the camera back with a secondary status LCD display on the top (with backlight). The screen is a pleasure to use when reviewing images for focus, and when manually focusing in magnified live view mode. Photo quality is terrific. There are various Picture Styles you can choose to alter the contrast, sharpness, color tone, and saturation of the photos. At any rate, 99% of the time, colors are natural, exposure is accurate, and dynamic range is great. At this level of camera, that's expected though. What I really love about the 7D is the high ISO noise, or lack thereof. The luxury of feeling confident while shooting at high ISO is priceless. I've taken a good number of shots as high as ISO 3200 and have no complaints. Of course there is a bit of noise, and the mushiness that noise reduction brings, but for an 18 MP image at ISO 3200, I have no complaints. The ISO speeds above 3200 are OK as well, but I'll reserve those for emergency use only, they get fairly processed looking. (Updating this section a bit: Since the 7D is over 3 years old at this point its high ISO shooting is not as good as it once was relative to the competition. I have a Canon G1 X and the Fuji X100 and they both do a bit better at ISO 1600 and higher. Having said that I doubt anyone would complain about the 7D's high ISO results, but you should be aware that sensor technology has gotten better since the 7D was introduced.) The relatively large APS-C sensor not only allows for low noise, but also allows me to produce nicely blurred backgrounds and great depth of field. I couldn't achieve the same degree of that effect with the smaller 4/3 sensor in the Olympus, and I certainly couldn't do it with my point and shoot cameras unless I was in macro mode. There is an Auto Lighting Optimizer feature that attempts to correct photos that are hard to correctly expose (e.g. big difference between shadows or highlights in a scene). It works well for the most part, but, depending on the subject, the differences are very subtle. There is also an image highlight tone priority option available in the menu system that limits the lowest ISO setting to 200 and helps preserve highlights a bit, but it too, is subtle.

Best Purchase I Have Ever Made
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Previous to the 7D i used a Ti1 which was a step up to any camera i have previously owned. Recently though I was given a generous gift by an employer and able to buy the 7D. Though this camera I have started my own business in sports photography and promotional work. The 60 fps is amazing when filming movies and the HD quality is teriffic. I personally dont think the 5D worth the extra 1000 especially when you can buy a nice lens with that money. Camera bodies change every few years but camera lenses havent changed for over 20.

Better than expected!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had read many reviews online about this camera. It was basically between the 7D and 5DMKII. In the end, I'm glad I went with the 7D. Saved me some money and it still does all I want it to. The video quality looks real nice. I upgraded from the 30D and it is a big difference. The images are very bright. The LCD is amazing. I like that I'm able to set my 430EXII flash as a slave flash. With my 30D, I preferred to shoot at ISO 100, and with the 7D, I am able to get the same results at ISO 400.

One awesome camera!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this as a step up from the Rebel line, not a moment of regret. The camera itself is a little bigger/heavier than the Rebels, and a little more complicated to run, so probably not for the beginner. Takes fantastic pics AND video. Totally worth the price in my opinion. The kit lens (28-135mm IS) is a great all-around shooter. One really nice option is the built in flash for those who don't have a seperate one.

Incredible camera, horrible lens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am new to the DSLR world and it's taken me a bit of getting used to but now I LOVE it. I am using this camera to mainly do videography and I purchased an external microphone which has helped a lot and I also purchased a Tokina 11-16mm lens. My biggest frustration was the lens that the camera came with, I take photos for real estate and when I went to a property this lens wasn't able to capture even half of the room which is why I picked up the Tokina. I know I haven't even scratched the surface of all this camera is capable of but I am very happy so far.

Great Digital Camera!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was always discouraged by 35mm film cameras because of the time it took to get a picture developed either by developing it myself or sending it out to get developed. I often wasted rolls of film and money because I couldnt see what the results where until the roll ran out and got the film developed. Now that digital cameras have been around awhile and the picture qualtiy either meets or exceeds 35mm plus the fact that you can do so much with the camera and the printed results, I cant find a better way to spend my time. I also can see the results instantly and delete pictures that are not so great, which are a lot. This camera does it all and then some. You may spend lots of money on a digital camera, but you make up for it by not throwing your money away on rolls of film. Picture quality is great and there are so many ways to get your picture the way you want it.

An Amazing Camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a photography student and I absolutely love this camera. It didn't take too long to get used to (I upgraded from the Digital Rebel XT) and the picture quality is great. The body has a nice rugged feel, and as far as kit lenses go the 28-135mm IS lens is a great starter lens. 10 fps, cross-type AF sensor, 19 AF points are just a few of this camera's stand-out specs--Canon sure loaded this one up.
