    Great Camera!

This is a great camera. I researched and debated between the Nikon 300ds and the Canon EOS 7D. Both are excellent, but the Canon won my heart. I'm grateful that I'd had experience with a DSLR prior to this or I'd have been very confused and frustrated for a long time. The camera is so feature rich that it takes time to learn all the possibilities and how to get the best pictures out of it. I'm still learning! BUT, that being said, it doesn't have to be complicated...it can be set on Automatic, or Creative Auto, or even Program mode, and it's pretty much all done for you. I'd highly recommend this camera as it seems to be a very solid, high quality product. I LOVE IT!!!

    Amazing DSLR

This is a fantastic DSLR. Easily worth the money. Now this is not an entry-level SLR. This is for people who have some experience shooting photography. The camera has fantastic manual controls, and take absolutely incredible photo quality, even for a non-full-frame SLR. It's worth going for the 7D with Lens, as the 28-135 lens is worth a few hundred dollars, and is a rather versatile lens for only a $200 difference. The only downside to the camera is depending on where your taking a video with, the audio is only mediocre without an external mic, as well as when shooting jpeg+raw, there is a random tendency for some digital noise, which can be corrected using a program like iphoto or aperture though. If this is your first DSLR i would not recommend this camera unless your extremely willing to learn how to use the capabilites that this camera has. I would easily recommend this item to someone and repurchase it easily if given the choise

    Buy it.

This is actually my first DSLR. If this is going to be your first, plan on spending hours reading the manuel. After a couple days of playing with it I feel like I finally know what i'm doing. I actually bought it mainly for the HD video quality. But plan on getting some sort of stabilizer or only use on a tripod. The handheld video is VERY shaky. The depth of field is amazing. I bought several lenses: EF 50mm 1.4 and EF 17-40mm L 4. This is such a great combo. One thing that surprised me was on the second day I owned it, I was filming and when reviewing I noticed a dead pixel right in the middle of my videos. It looked horrible - but it turns out I just had something (dust or something) on the sensor or it needed to be reset. I took the lens off and manually cleaned the sensor for about 30 seconds. Put the lens back on and it was perfect. Overall, I'm VERY happy with this camera. Invest in some good glass and you will too!

    Its the real deal...

I won't bother writing a review based on all the specs that are listed on the website, if you are reading this, you probably have all of the specs memorized by now. This camera is the real deal, I purchased this the day it came out. I have owned 3 other EOS bodies, and this one tops them all. What I find especially great about this camera is something you wont find listed in the specs, and that is the way if feels in your hand. It feels almost connected to your hand when you grab the camera. The grip was designed perfect for the average sized hand. The camera itself feels solid, like the entire camera was forged from one piece of material. I have mastered each of the EOS bodies I have owned, and after having this camera for the first few days, I realized that knowing the other cameras so well does absolutely nothing for this camera. It is a beast of its own, and requires much studying to start to understand the power this camera has to offer. After my first week with the camera, I started to understand the metering and new focusing system, and I will tell you this, once you understand these two components of this camera, you will find yourself taking pictures you never thought possible. All in all, pound for pound, penny for pixel... This camera is the best in its price range, and is the third best camera Canon makes, outside of the 1D & 5D. Go for it...

    Awesome camera!

I had a Canon 50D and wanted to upgrade to the 7D. I wasn't sure if it was worth upgrading, but once to read the reviews and actually look at all the specs compare the two camera, it was an easy decision. I wanted a camera that I could grow into as my skill level developed as a photographer. The new layout of the buttons on the back to the quick menu just makes this camera a lot more intuitive and easy to use. In addition it has HD video and other features that can take your still pictures to a whole new level. I am a big fan of Canon and really love their productions. I highly recommend to others but do the research to make sure this camera is right for you.

    This camera is AMAZING

I am NOT a professional photographer. Before this purchase I always had "point and shoot" digital cameras. My wife and I wanted to "step up" the quality and control of our pictures (i.e. kids, sports events, cool sunsets, etc.) The size makes it a little cumbersome to take everywhere but I solved that problem by getting a backpack for DSLR cameras. The picture quality is unbelievable! Everything is so clear and crisp. Changing functions to create different effects is easy and creates some really cool shots. If you are buying this camera, do yourself a favor and read the book while the battery charges. Once you get the general terminoligy and symbols down it's much easier. After I did that, I just started taking pictures of the same thing while changing settings to see what the effect was on the picture. There are 2 auto settings that adjust for lighting, flash, focus, etc. that work great. So don't feel that you can't take pictures until you master the owners manual. The auto settings are great for right out of the box shooting. Also this camera (unless bought in the package) you need to buy a compact flash card for picture storage. I bought the SanDisk Extreme Pro 32 GB & 90MB/s card. This thing is a MONSTER!!!! I had 1,000 pictures on there and the display stil read "999" pictures left. From what I've read (after buying this card) is that the capacity on this 32 GB card is around 7,000 picutres!!!! Summary: This is the best, most fun camera my wife and I have owned.

I finally decided to buy a high end camera so I could pursue my love of photography and my grandkids. The best money I have ever spent. I love this camera, a bit difficult for me to figure out how to use the picture software. The photos of my grandkids running and throwing snowballs are crystal clear and beautiful. A bit of a learning curve with the camera but well worth the money.

    Outstanding Piece of Equipment

This was an upgrade from a well-used 20D. I was considering either the 5D MkII or the 7D. In the end the 7D won because of the price difference and HD video capability. I shoot a range of subjects both for personal enjoyment and for pay and this camera is versatile enough to cover my needs extremely well. The low light performance has been exceptional and I've been very impressed with the subtle improvements in color rendering over the older sensors. This is a GREAT camera.

I finally upgraded from my first digital rebel in 2004 to EOS 7D and I'm glad I did. This camera has so many great features. The clarity and detail of the photo's is just amazing. Works extremely well for a crop camera. If your looking to upgrade from a rebel this is a great camera to move up to. And I picked up Canon Speedlite 580 EX II External Flash to go with it. Btw, I recommend the Canon Speedlite 580 EX II External Flash not the 430. I wasn't given the option to choose the 580 EX II on here.

If you're like me, and like to shoot photos and video, this is the camera for you. To be able to grab one camera for vacations, trips, or gigs...that's cool. You can read all the specs and details about this camera online (there's always somebody that dosen't like something about it), but I just want to say that once you have the camera in your hands and you learn how to use it, it's truely a great camera! Go get one man! Especially now that Best Buy is offering 18 months with no finance charges...

Top of the line in APC sensor cameras!

As a professional, I picked up the 7D as a backup camera, rather than spend $4000.00 on what I'm already shooting with. The 7D is solid, well built and a true performer. Its focusing system is excellent. This camera is marketed for the consumer, but can easily stand up to some serious heavy professional use on a daily basis. I'm impressed. Its the most pricey in its class, but you end up with a camera that will not be out of date for a very long time, plus has a very sturdy long lasting shutter cycle ( 150,000). I highly recommend this as a back up camera for other professionals out there or as the main camera for any prosumer, advanced- amatuer or amatuer photographers out there.

So far I have only used the auto settings but I can't fault the camera in any way for my own lack of knowledge or experience. I have used a Canon Rebel XT for a few years. It did a good job but I wanted more than 8 megapixels. I am very happy with the 7D and I just got the dummy level books to learn about all the wonderful settings and features. Even now the camera makes me look good so I can just imagine what will happen later on! I primarily wanted it for photos/portraits but eventually will try the video as well. Now for some pro len$e$....

I purchased the 7D as a second camera for my growing business. I also shoot a 5D and was very pleased at the ease to understand the menus (slight differences). They are intuitive and easy to select the perfect settings for the shot. I am a true Canon believer.

I loved it! It was a great price and well over what I needed for portrait photography. I do not see myself investing in any new cameras in the near future. I loved the picture quality and the options. A bit complex for the average person to use. I upgraded from a 2006 Sony model, this camera is not even close to what I was using. I would have liked the tethering cable to come with it though.

The Canon EOS 7D and the Canon T2i may seem to be the same camera - with a widely different MSRP - at first glance, but they are not. The T2i is an 18 megapixels camera, but it is constructed with a very lightweight plastic body. The 7D is constructed of a metallic alloy which gives it heft and is a constant reminder that the 7D is a workhorse professional digital camera. The 7D also has a number of other improvements such as a faster and longer life shutter as well as having nearly twice as many autofocus imaging points. The T2i is a fine camera on its own, but if you want a camera that will last for years as well as one that is capable of being exposed to greater weather extremes and the occasional rough handling, then I highly recommend shelling out the extra dough and getting the 7D. It well be money well spent.

    Canon 7D wows Nikon guy

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

As a longtime Nikon user [going back to the film days during which I tried many different brands with the exception of Canon and ultimately settled on Nikon] the Canon 7D really impressed from the first shot - exposure, sharpness, colors, handling. This is a serious camera with great flexibility. It could easily overpower the abilities of the user not up to the challenge; this is not to knock any buyer's skills but, rather, a warning that if you're expecting point-and-shoot ease of use, you might be disappointed. My only "complaint" - 28mm is a silly length for a crop-sensor kit lens - not wide at all - but I knew this going in. The bonus here is that the kit lens works great with my EOS 1N [film is NOT dead]. I'm very happy with my 7D and the price at Best Buy was excellent! Plus triple reward zone points! What's not to love?

    Amazing 1st Camera

I got this camera my senior year in high school for an early graduation gift. I used it in my AP class, and brought it to college, where I study photography. This camera is AMAZING. I couldn't have asked for anything better. The camera itself is excellent, but I could recommend buying a nicer lens. I bought a 24-70mm lens (no complains on that one)

Amazing Camera but not for the beginner

This is as close to a pro-sumer camera as you can get from Canon. With top of the line picture and video modes and a great kit lens in the 28-135mm you really can't go wrong. The camera does take some time to get used to if you were previously using a 60d or other type of DSLR. Overall the main thing is that it only has 2 automated modes and the rest are variations on manual. It also doesn't have a flip out screen like the 60d, which hasn't seemed to be an issue for me. It is also extremely solid and very heavy. I would recommend a good case and lens filter to protect your investment along with an extra battery. Also there are lots of great books and videos you can buy to really get the most out of this camera and come up to speed on it fast.

I love this camera. It is ALMOST perfect. Unlike Best Buy's description of this camera it DOES NOT HAVE SCENE MODES ON THE DIAL. I know it is because this is geared to a more advanced user, and I am one of those, but sometimes it is nice to just pop it in one of those modes on the dial and go. I don't always want to think about it, and I like to experiment with different effects and those modes give me one more option. Otherwise this camera it awesome! I would recommend this to anyone, but be warned you need some knowledge of manual camera settings or be willing to learn to get the most out of this camera. And check out all the specs on other website to make sure you are getting what you are expecting. Unfortunately I will be patiently awaiting a replacement to the 50d that has video and scene modes. I think it will better suite many people's needs.
