I have only experimented wth it, going away in a few days to really try it out. Got the book Canon G16 by David Busch, highly recommend it, it gives in depth info on the camera, much more than the small instruction manual. Will add to this review soon, recommend it because of the fantastic price.

Found the small book that comes with is very minimal..charge it and turn it on is about as far as it takes you. On line instruction manuals are very complicated. Not for the faint of heart. I am sure it is a very high qualify camera but user friendly "it isn't>".

the camera is an overall good buy, however it lacks good tele.and a lot of the camera activation is pretty complicated unless you are an almost pro.it is also mnot easy to carry in your pocket due to its size.it will probally grow on me as i am using it more and more.

I'm not a professional photographer but I am technologically sound and found that the photo quality of this camera did not meet up to expectations when photographing images in motion.

Would be much easier to use if it came with a manual. Really sucks that a 500.00 camera has no manual included. Have to go on line to figure it out !!!

I replaced my G12 with this newest model and love it. It is much smaller than the G12 and easier to use. Photos are great!

    G16 is a snappy camera

I bought this Canon PS G16 as a gift for my Mom, she had been complaining about how slow-responding her old Kodak camera is (from AF'ing to actually getting the picture captured). I tested the G16 out and was impressed (compared to her Kodak it is night and day difference). Depending on conditions/settings, the speed at which you can snap pictures is quite good - and when you have grandchildren you are trying to take pics of, speed matters! Seems to work well in average indoor lighting and in lower lighting conditions - pictures come out clear and not grainy or fuzzy. I like all the features that elevate this above an average P&S camera - manual settings for aperture, shutter speed; full HD movie, etc. The dials and controls are comfortable to use. LCD screen is nice and big. There's a viewfinder which is handy for those moments when blinding glare from the sun prevents you from seeing the screen. Cons for me would be the specific battery pack (I always liked just being able to use AA's), no USB cable included to xfer pics to computer if you don't want to set up wi-fi (or don't have a card reader already), and having to print out the manual from website (it is a big manual, but needed if you want to take full advantage of all the features - basic manual is included with camera but is cursory and geared more towards getting wi-fi set up). Zoom is what it is... 5X isn't what I would like personally, but for Mom's purposes of shooting mostly just people it'll be just fine. Price was about what I would expect for one of those "better than average P&S but not quite a DSLR" cameras. Overall I'd recommend if you're looking for something better than average for a P&S.

    The new Canon G16

Being a long time user of the Canon G series cameras, i read the good reviews on the new G16. I have the G15 but the quicker focus and better low light performance, along with the new processor, had my attention. I have tested the G16 side by side with my G15, and it does have some what quicker focus and a lot better low light performance. I am not implying it's really that much better then the G15, but it does show up in pictures. I don't use the WiFi also did not test the video so can't say how well they work. The quality of build is still great, and the controls are about the same as the G15, so if you already own a G15 you won't need much to learn. I find it takes really quality pictures with great colors. I did notice it seems the new G16 has a wider and longer range lens then the G15, when taking pictures side by side with both cameras. Canon tells be they both use the same exact lens, and the Canon on line Spects from their web page show they are the same. but my test pictures show a range difference. Not a big deal to me, and if i had not tested it next to my G15 might not have noticed tis small item. anyway to me it's another really nice Canon G camera, and i am sure if you buy on you will agree.
