    Before the BBC Hornblower series - this was and is a GREAT film. Gregory Peck nails the Captain as a man of grit (without being like a Capt Bligh) who has the respect of his men, while at the same time can be very passionate when his crew is injured. Appropriate for the Grandkids whereas the Disney Pirate movies are too scary for them.

    Have watched this movie many times since I was a kid. Much better sound and picture even on dvd than ever seen on television. Great story and acting. Thoroughly enjoyable. Highly recomended.

    For it's time this movie is worth seeing. I read the book and saw the movie a very long time ago. It's worth having and seeing again.
