A fun retro-styled game reminiscent of the good ol' NES/SNES days. There could have been a better introducing to let me know the backstory but I kind of figured it out after the third world. Fun and easy controls allow for play by the whole family. Mild animated violence but nothing terrible that I would not let a youngster partake in the game (same par as games in the 80's and 90's). Price was right especially after the Gamers Club discount.

One of the best indie games out there. A metroidvania with a good story and fun gameplay.

Fun pixel art, a great soundtrack, and an attention to world building make Cave Story a game in the vein of Metroid worth taking a look at!

I love this game and got it on sale, and now I didn't know that the game also came out with a compact disc digital audio, which has the game soundtracks ! It also came with a little booklet with information about the gameplay and the game. Very nice additions ! And the game itself is AWESOME ! Awesome addition to my collection.

I was expecting a Metroidvania type game when I picked this up, but it’s closer to a classic NES Castlevania; less exploring for collectibles and more leveling up from exp. My enjoyment was enhanced however by ingame assets donning Santa hats and ribbons once my switch’s clock hit December 25th. It was a very nice touch and added some spice to an otherwise “alright” game.

Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya's Cave Story is considered by many to be one of the first famous independent games. Before everybody and their cousin was cranking out "metroidvanias" on Steam, Amaya gave us the staples that would define a modern gaming revolution: retro pixel-art graphics, large interconnected 2D world, cute, quirky characters, and a narrative touched with mystery and alittle sadness. Taken of its own merits, Cave story is a fantastic game. A mixture of Metroid's exploration, and Contra's devil-may-care run and gun gameplay. There's a variety of weapons to collect and upgrade. All of them are fun to blast away with! The game's cozy, compact nature also makes it a perfect fit for the Switch hardware. This is only the second time that Cave Story has been made available in physical form for collectors, and the 3DS release from years ago often demands a high price on the 2nd hand market. The folks at Nicalis recognized the collectible status of this release, and put together one heck of a package. Along with the game, you'll get a mini soundtrack CD and a lovely full-color instruction manual stylized those that came with classic NES games. It's a must buy!

When I picked this up I had no idea of the experience I was about to have. The graphics are suited to the task but the personalities of the characters are where it really shines. I love the interactions and the exploration aspects. I have played it through once already and will return to it time and again. Definitely worth picking up!

I had never played the old versions of this game, but I heard a lot of good reviews. It was a fun game. It doesn't make you think too much and you don't have to spend a lifetime playing it to beat it. I like to have a game I can just pick up and play when I have a few minutes free and have a feeling of accomplishment from beating it before life gets too busy. This was fun for that purpose.

This is a amazing game and is recommended for those who want to play it with an amazing soundtrack, and with amazing gameplay! The story can be short depending on how fast you want to play it, but it still has a great amount of replay value (also with the ability to listen to the soundtrack whenever you want to on the Switch :) ).

This is my first time playing this game despite it being released on several other platforms. It's a lot of fun, and will make you feel nostalgic. Being able to choose to play 8 bit music in the background is a nice touch, as are the music CD and classic looking instruction manual included with the physical version. Check it out!

I never picked up Cave Story on the countless number of platforms it was released for but I've been a big fan of picking up more games for when my Switch is on the go with me. Cave Story is a fun and charming side scrolling platformer with elements from Metroid and Castlevania. Only a few hours in the game but I really like it playing it in handheld mode. Looks and plays wonderful.

This is a great platforming adventure game. However, it's not a huge upgrade over the 3ds game so keep that in mind.

I think I have purchased this on about 5 systems since the original Wii release came out nearly a decade ago. Its still just a great fun old school game. It was $24 w GCU and it came with an actual manual and mini music CD. A fun game to pass the time until more heavy hitters show up on the Switch later this year.
