Customers are saying

Customers are delighted by the excellent picture quality and ease of use of this DVR. Many appreciate its reliable recording capabilities and the overall functionality as a DVR. However, some users have noted limitations with the number of tuners and the channel guide's functionality. The channel guide's lack of detail regarding new shows in a series was a common point of feedback.

Great subscription free DVR. I am able to use a wired internet connection and didn't have to purchase the wifi adapter. Setup was very easy, the free on screen guide is easy to use and easy to set up recordings. The only downside is the price but not paying a subscription makes this DVR worth it

I bought this for my parents who only have standard television. This way they don't have to pay a monthly fee to record the shows that they enjoy. It has plenty of room to record two shows at a time with a lot of memory. It is very easy for them to use.

Bought this after cutting the cable cord. Was a little hard to set up at first. Would not download new firmware from my new smart tv. Hooked it up to another tv, dowloaded it Works great now. It did need a restart once. For some reason it would not show the picture, just sound when replaying a recorded program. Overall very happy with this DVR.

So being new to the cable cutter group. I was uncomfortable with not being able to record my shows. Channel Master has made that so easy and it also allows us to add Sling to the apps. Along with all the standard local channels you have a few other off the beaten path channels that can bring you way back :) Very easy to use and set up.

Records Broadcast TV - No Subscription!

    Posted .

This product does exactly what it says it will do. It records the free TV signals that I get through my TV antenna. And there's no contract or subscription fees. This is exactly what I needed! The biggest cord-cutting challenge for my household was missing our DVR. We have Roku sticks in every TV now (they are awesome) and we were getting 37 channels with our antenna but wanted an easy way to record that content. NFL season is coming and we were horrified at the thought of having to watch games live without the ability to pause live TV or rewind. This product was the answer! We also have a Slingbox 500, which works with the DVR+, so we can watch everything remotely if we want. A word of caution when you are setting this up: setup is super easy, but pay attention to your TVs "scan channels" setting. Most TVs are set up to scan for Cable or QAM channels as a default because the manufacturer assumes you're connecting the TV to a cable box. I was only getting a few channels with DVR+ at first and was very frustrated until I figured this out. I changed the scan to the 8VSB or Antenna setting, and then all the channels populated into the guide just fine. I've read other reviews about this product where people complain that the tuners in the DVR+ do not work well. I'm betting they were on a Cable scan setting. Once you get this set up you will love it. The picture quality is amazing. And no more cable bill!!

We LOVE the CHANNEL MASTER DVR+. We included the MOHU LEAF 50 in our installation. We are getting better pictures on our TV than DIRECTV!! We really did believe that we would only get 10 channels, but we ended up with 50. We are having problems with CBS, but will figure out on how to get this channel as well. We are not electronically inclined, but we did not have any problem with the CHANNEL MASTER or antenna ... probably because the owner manuals are complete.

It supports USB too (with conditions)

The difference between this model and the original DVR+ (January 2014) is the 1 TB internal hard drive. While this model also supports an external USB hard drive up to 3 TB, you should be aware of some “features” and other issues: 1. When a USB hard drive is connected, all recordings are placed on that drive. You cannot instruct the DVR+ to use the internal hard drive. Note: It’s odd that the 2 USB ports are not mentioned in the BestBuy specs! One is for a USB hard drive, the other for an optional WiFi dongle to connect to the users WiFi for Internet access. 2. Recordings to the internal hard drive cannot be moved to the USB hard drive, nor can recordings on a USB hard drive be moved to the internal hard drive. 3. While there are some hoops to jump through in order to move a recording from a USB hard drive to a PC, it is possible. Recordings to the internal hard drive make this operation much more difficult. If you intend to move recordings to a PC, you might prefer the less expensive original model without the internal hard drive (the CM-7500TB1). 4. CM will guarantee only certain USB hard drives to be compatible (those they sell), although other owners report that different models work for them. 5. While the 14 day programming guide is currently available, and free, there is no guarantee it will continue. However, if that should disappear (as it has with other DVR products), there should be a 12 hour guide which the OTA broadcaster supply, as well as VCR like scheduling. 6. While complaints have died down since the 108R firmware update (internet required), you may wish to do a bit of research before purchasing, as many have reported reception problems, even when their TV’s tuner has no issues. 7. I recommend this device because Channel Master has a very good 30 day return policy. Verify with BestBuy before you buy.

    Great DVR for Antenna

The DVR+ is easy to set up and allows you to record over the air broadcasts with a nice transparent guide. It also gives you access to Vudu and Pandora with the updated firmware. The tuner quality is better than the one built into the TV and provides less artifacts when combined with an amplified antenna. This initial investment will pay off big vs. going with a cable or satellite provider. The only downside is that the guide does not let you know if it is a new show or not in a series.

I was excited about this product and the reviews seemed promising but, I hooked it up upgraded the firmware and started to play. Well first off it did not pick up on half the channels my tv found on the same wire. The menus had a lot of shall we say studer to them especially when it came to deleting recorded shows. Playback was full of hesitation. If this box was priced at less then $100 then maybe but for this much money I expect more.

Followed setup, scanned for channels, and was disappointed that half the channels scanned were as if it was scrambled. Those very same channels when my antenna is plug in directly to my HD Samsung TV was pristine in viewing quality. To me it seems the manufacturer used a sub-standard tuner to maximize profits. Too bad I REALLY wanted this DVR to work for me. Now I have to return to Best Buy and keep looking for another DVR recorder.

    999 recordings limit

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The 999 recording limit is a know issue to Channel Master that they have failed to address. It makes no difference how large your hard drive is once you get to the magic number 999 it will not record anymore programs. My 2tb hard drive showed it to be only 39% full, but would not record as I had reached the CM imposed limit of 999 recordings. Buyer beware.

Do away with paying high cable TV bills, buy a good TV antenna and the Channel Master DVR+ and you will receive over-the-air HD TV channels at no cost. The DVR+ has an excellent menu of channels, easy setup of recordings and has 1 terabyte of program storage.
