I love Tom Hardy. That is the reason I bought it. He has become an actor to watch and I've liked his last few movies very much. This movie is a drama, slow and serious. He does a good job but it is a little different so it isn't for everyone. I would recommend a purchase if you are very interested in the subject, or you have already viewed it for free or on Netflix. It is not what I expected and probably would have reconsidered buying had I already seen it. I gave it four stars for the acting and the unique story.

Child 44 is taken from a Tom Rob Smith's 2008 novel by the same name which borrows parts from a Soviet Union serial killer investigation during the cold war era. Child 44 is set in the early 50s. I have not read the book but the movie was enjoyable. If you are interested in the actual true story, there is an HBO movie called Citizen X with Stephen Rea and Donald Sutherland that is absolutely fantastic.

I originally bought this movie without seeing it previously based solely on the book (loved the book) and Tom Hardy. Tom could watch paint dry on screen for two hours and make it interesting. He actually made the character of Leo more human than he was in the book - he gave him more emotions. The accents in the movie are kind of ridiculous (everyone speaks in a Russian accent), but the movie itself is great. Tom and Noomi have great chemistry and it's just as great here as it was The Drop.

This film is based on an earlier movie, Citizen X, about a serial killer named Andre Chikitillo. Leo Demidov (Tom Hardy), an MGB officer, investigates the murders of young boys and Noomi Rapace plays his wife Raisa. A disturbing movie with great acting!

I will admit part of the reason I got this film was cause it had Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman in it. It turned out to be a really good story. Don't expect a action packed movie. There is action and alot of tense moments. A good thriller.

I have mixed feelings on this film having read the book series first. The actors portrayals were spot on and impeccable, but the screenplay was lacking the intesity and realness I felt while reading the novel. Overall, good film.

First let me say that i am a fan of The principle actors in this film and that may cloud my perspective. The performances are wonderful, the production values and look are excellent and I am sure there is an excellent story in there it was just to much backstory, to much political intrigue for a murder mystery. I know it is difficult to trim the hundreds of pages in a novel into a 100 to 120 page screenplay but the only thing missing was the kitchen sink, no wait i saw one of those in there. Overall I liked the movie, but it should have stayed a movie and not tried to become a "film", it is the rare accomplishment to due both.

I read this book and couldn't wait for the movie to be made. A film that takes place when there is a perfect society. No murders! No crime!
When small boys are found viciously murdered, the government covers up the murders in order to keep the perfect world they supposedly live in. One man, played by the great Tom Hardy, begins to investigate. A must for all!!!

Only reason I bought this movie was because I saw Tom Hardy on the cover. Definitely not disappointed. It's not the greatest of movies but it's one that you won't regret watching. Very enjoyable.

Loved the book which prompted me to buy the movie. I wasn't disappointed. Film stays very close to the original story line and I've never seen a Tom Hardy performance I've been disappointed with. Good supporting cast. The Russian accents are slightly ridiculous, but I applaud the filmmakers trying to capture the culture.

I decided to give this movie a try, since I really like both of the lead actors (Tom Hardy & Noomi Rapace). Wasn't too sure about it at the beginning of the film, but it got better and better towards the end of the film. Hardy & Rapace really bring their best to this film.
The film really gives the viewer a terrifying look at life under Stalin.

Great cast.
Although I enjoyed the movie I would have preferred if they simplified the story. There was too many subplots that take away instead of adding to the story.

I just got finished watching this movie and it was great! Tom Hardy seems to be in quite a lot lately. I just watched the movie Lawless, with him and two actors from Child 44, were in the Lawless movie with him. The movie was intiguing and kept my attention. I do not believe you will be disappointed.

Buy it, rent it, borrow it, just see it. I haven't scene a movie this good in a long time. The acting was terrific and the time period is done so well along with the story line. You can just feel the emotional tremor they are going through.
Please do yourself a favor and watch this movie.
