this album was worth waiting 17 years for, except for the fact that you didn't have Slash , Duff or Izzy doing their own style

Thank you Axl. It's beautiful, it's unique, and it rocks. If that was your vision, then the vision has been accomplished.

    Should have scrapped the album

I have always been a huge GNR fan, and truly believe that if the band were ever to reunite, they would dominate the music industry, and could become as enduring as a band like the Stones. However, this "new" album was produced by Axl and a plethera of other musicians, and packaged as GNR, when it is clearly not. Because Axl chose to continue under the original band's moniker, he will never escape the comparisions to the original line-up, and for that reason alone, he should have changed the band name. After listening to this album several times, it is apparent to me that Axl should have scrapped this album shortly after the original band split. It is a cheap substitute to what the GNR name stands for, and it is a major failure. Once the original band split, nothing Axl would do from there on out could truly be considered GNR, and he should have realized that and laid GNR to rest. Because he released this album as GNR it was destined to fall short of GNR's previous work. Axl finally released this album in my opinion, because he was under enormous pressure to do so. People kept talking about the enigma behind the album, why it was taking so long, and why Axl seemed to have a revolving door on his alternate GNR band. So, after constantly being asked about the album, and why it took so long, and song leaks, Axl finally decided to put this album out there, perhaps to get some people off his case, but the album 13 years in the making failed to deliver. There isn't a hit on the album, and for those that like any of the tracks, consider if you put those songs on Appettite or the Use Your Illusions, you would think it was a filler song. Axl has to come to grips with the fact that GNR is no more, and rename his musical endeavors more appropriately. The only way Axl should ever release or use the GNR moniker is if he and the original members reunite. Continuing to press on under the GNR name without the original crew is ridiculous and just makes Slash, Duff, and the others look that much better because anything Axl does without them, doesn't compare to what he can do with them. The combination of Axl, Slash, Duff, Etc. is what makes GNR what it is/was anything less than that is just a cover band.

"Better" is the best song on the album and probably the only one worth giving a listen to. Not worth the 15 year wait for a new GN'R album. You can really see the loss of creative juices without Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum. The music sounds like a mish mosh of exactly what it is....a mix of sounds from a dozen musicians pasted together over the last 15 years. Some of the guitar riffs try to replicate the playing style of Slash, but do him no justice. I really hope this is Axl's last attempt at keeping GN'R an active band. Harcore fans will enjoy a couple of the songs. Should new fans check it out....hmmmm, not so much!

Axl sounds different..He can really hit the high notes. Its like everyone and their mother are playing on this cd. At some points there are like 5 guitarists playing and 2 drummers. I know alot of people helped on the album but the way the tracks are mixed are horrible. You have Axl singing really low key and really high key over each other. Some of the songs are good but are better live. For an album 15+ years in the making, the jury is still out if this album is worth it or Axl just needs to go back into hiding and go away!! I will be shocked if another album is ever made by him again

I knew it wouldn't sound like Appetite or UYI, so I already had low expectations. And this CD came in way under them. The first 3 songs are fair at best, and the rest of the CD is one big steaming pile of ----. Digitally ehanced vocals in some spots, which I don't understand. Axl can still appear to sing, but that is the highlight of this CD. Way to many slow songs, ballads, or whatever you want to call them. 20 different tracks laid over each other with Axl screaming over them. Whatever happened to 5 guys go into a studio and play a rock song. If you want that, I recommend AC/DC. Not this! This CD does explain a lot though. This CD explains the "My World" song on the end of UYI. This CD explains why Guns N Roses broke up. Slash and gang wanted to play rock and roll, Axl wanted to do something else, whatever that is. This explains why it took 14 years to release. Axl had these songs in his head, he kept trying to figure out how to make them sound good, and they just don't. They are missing too much... i.e. rythym, melody, good lyrics, etc. They produced and edited this CD to death. But like my Grandpa said.."You can't polish a t---". That is exactly what this CD is. One big polished t---. And polished poorly. Please save the $12. The people who wrote the good reviews must be so blinded by allegiance to Axl that they failed to listen to this CD. It sure isn't a good rock CD, it isn't even a rock CD. No matter what genre you put behind it, it doesn't fit, it just sucks. I can't believe this is the same guy who wrote lyrics for Civil War and other greats. Apparantly other old band members had a lot more songwriting input than Axl did.

    The Ishtar of Rock

Picking up this CD my expectations were set pretty high. I mean, c'mon, I'm only an 80's kid now in his mid 30's. I was listening to this CD in my car as I was driving. Pretty soon I found myself with my mouth half open and running through a stop light cause of what was protruding through my speakers. I got out of the car feeling like I'd just woken up from an all night binge. After waiting an eternity for this I was promptly disappointed to say the least. I'd expect this CD to now be part of our torture tactics used for infiltrating foreign spies. There are so many drum loops and samples that Axl could perform this CD without having one musician to support him. Maybe that's what took him so long to make this... all the technological loopholes he had to jump thru; either that or he's preparing for his SNL solo debut a'la Ashee Whatshername. His vocal styling is nothing as it used to be, though its still highly recognizable. Gone are the rock guitars, catchy melodies and hum along choruses. Replaced are now faux musicianship in dyer need of a Rock 101 class. It'd be asinine to think that the Guns and Roses of the 80's and 90's would transcend into the millennium with it's trademark sound and debauchery. To remove every aspect of that trademarked sound is a disservice to all Gun's fans everywhere. Axl Rose is certainly musically inclined enough to produce music that will sell, and he should be commended for it. As with anything though, to pull the wool over the eyes of his fans and try to pull off this as an actual Gun's production is a travesty. To put it in perspective, it'd be like Metallica turning into Fall Out Boy.
