    A Great Family Classic

I bought this online to upgrade from my VHS copy. When it arrived, I was a little disappointed to have received a different publication of this movie than what was and is still currently shown on Best Buy's website (no indication that there is a different design version nor is there the option to choose when ordering). I didn't even know there was an alternative cover design, and unfortunately it's worse than the original. The cover shows a well-attempted effort to redesign the title into a typograph but the rest of the layout is very poor. The design is outdated and cheesy & I would have rather received the DVD with the original cover shown on the site ...the one I was expecting & didn't get. But I suppose I can't complain too much since I got it on sale for $1.99 And despite the awful cover design, CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG is a great family classic that would fit well in anyone's movie library and collection.

with clarity like this,i mean, SUPER clear pictures of scenery, close ups, group shots, (obviously a fantastic original print was used for this ) along with a robust "fills the whole speakers up kind of sound", it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE not to become completely immersed in this movie. It's a great kid's story, but i'm far from a child, and was totally enjoying myself through the whole thing. Prepare to sit down turn it on, and be engrossed for it's entire length. I opened the container and seen an old expired coupon inside, thinking.."uhoh...", but was (as i stated earlier) completely satisfied after i popped this sucker in.

Every child wants to ride or drive a flying car

What child has not wanted to ride or even drive a flying car? Every child is captivated by the wonder of flight; and although piloting an airplane requires difficult and expensive certification, every adult can drive a car and every child has ridden in one. A child can easily see his parents, and then himself, at the wheel of a car that just happens to be able to fly. Thus, the basic premise of this movie is perfect for both children and adults. This movie's story, though, is a little oversimplified. - The primary action is relegated to an imagination sequence--a way to avoid attempting to reconcile the sequence with real life. - The main character has to play a father figure, a leading man, and the comic relief, all rolled into one. The great Danny Kaye could, with considerable difficulty, handle the latter two roles, but I never remember him trying to be a father figure at the same time. - The female lead's role is rather passive. She plays the role of would-be mother very well, but helpmate to her would-be husband not so much. - The children are given roles with too little intelligence or creativity for their age. The scenery is beautiful; I think the movie was mostly filmed on location in England, France, and perhaps Germany. The title song is stupendous--the kind that you have difficulty getting out of your head. The other songs are less memorable. - In real life, Chitty Bang Bang was a famous early race car designed and driven by Count Louis Zborowski, son of a racing driver and an American heiress. I must point out that I paid only $5 for the Blu-Ray/DVD combo on sale. It was certainly worth that price. I would have been more reticent about paying full retail price for this.

It's based on the 1964 children's book by Ian Fleming, the author of the James Bond series, who made it his only such venture away from his usual spy tales. Director Ken Hughes ("The Brain Machine"/"The Trials of Oscar Wilde"/"Of Human Bondage") turns the family entertainment pic into a too cutesy musical (via tunes courtesy of the Sherman brothers) and dutifully executes a whimsical tale for the kiddies. It's co-written by Hughes, Roald Dahl and Richard Maibaum. The inventive sets by production designer Ken Adams are a special treat. It's set in Edwardian England, while the book was set in the present (a much better choice).

They don't make them like this anymore. Was lucky to see it in the theaters when it first premiered. It was about the same time as Oliver came out. Musicals... and family fun. Written by the man who brought us James Bond... which I've always thought was really cool. He created the story for his son. I'm so glad he shared it with the rest of us. So many great characters not to mention the fantastic car itself. I got this on DVD and Blu-ray to do a comparison of the two formats.

This film is like marry poppis, it's magical & it makes you feel that your in your own imagination of, other ideas that can be fantastic as, has always been an incredible actor & influence to me. This film like every other classic films & his tv show, has been in my childhood since I was two years old. How much I miss my vhs copy gosh, kids today really need to recognize real films of the golden decades, & this film is one out of so many that can be a perfect reminder of what happiness really is when we look back at what memories are made of.

I love this movie. The movie is so crisp and clear on the Blu-ray and the sound is fantastic! And since this movie was made when they still had an intermission in the middle of the movie (because the movies were nice and long) the Blu-ray is able to have the entire movie on one disc, instead of having to change discs at the Intermission.

I loved this movie as a child and bought it on dvd, which was great to watch, but disappointing that only the opening scene was in the wide-screen format and the rest of the movie was "formatted to fit your tv". I took a chance on the bluray since it was remastered and am glad I did. The entire movie is now wide-screen format. Haven't watched the entire movie yet, but fired up in my projection-based home theater and i looks great! Can't wait for the entire family to experience this with me!

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a classic film--one of my all-time favorites. Go on a whimsical journey with an eccentric inventor (Dick Van D y k e - Best Buy flagged his name as inappropriate language-LOL) and his family to a country that has banned children. Benny Hill makes an appearance as the toymaker. Musical numbers (singing/dancing) are entertaining. Similar to the classic Disney Films of the 60s & 70s, this is safe family fare that is worth watching over and over again.

Great Movie, a classic. relive your childhood (remember the car toy you'd get in the box of cereal!) or share this timeless classic with your kids, grandkids, or adults who need a walk down memory lane that will leave them humming "Truly Scrumptious" the rest of the day!

[Lead actor] is a legend (wow they made me censor his name). His routine as a mad inventor and loving father still feels fresh. There are plenty of memorable songs for my kid: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Toot Sweets, P.O.S.H. The downside is your be humming them to yourself all day. If you have young kids, this is a staple for your movie library.

So glad I could find this available at Best Buy. With it being such an old film it’s hard to find in stock but as soon as I found it I without a doubt decided to purchase it for my granddaughter. She loves it and I won’t hesitate to check Best Buy In then future when searching other movies

I purchased the Blu-ray to replace a very old VHS copy. This is one of the most iconic family films of the 60s, along with Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music that all children should enjoy - when they are small and for the rest of their lives.

This is an upgrade for me. I only had it on DVD. What a difference a Blu-Ray and a LG 4K tv makes!! Don't Stream!! Please support home videos!! Support 3D!! Don't give them power over what you watch by depending on someone elses server to keep you're videos on.. Use the cloud as a back-up to the Hard Copy you have in hand!!!

A great classic movie to watch with your family. Proving that with a little imagination and a dream most anything can be possible. A combination movie of comedy and musical together. Would recommend.
