The picture just seems a bit better than my Roku 4K stick when playing thru my 4K projector. I like that fact that all content keeps my projector in 4K HDR mode unlike the Roku 4K stick which might be the reason. However, it loses a star due to some of the apps like FandangoNow which do not currently play my 4K movie library with surround sound (plays in stereo). Other channels like HBO and Showtime play with surround sound, so I'm thinking it must be an app issue on the Chromecast. However, no problem with that issue using my Roku 4K stick, so for the time being I have both connected to my AVR and use the 4K stick when playing from my movie library, and the Chromecast for everything else.

This is so much better than the original Chromecast and Chromecast Ultra. My only complaint right now is it does not support Stadia which is the reason I only bought 2 not 3 of them. Setup was very easy the controller can control both the volume and power of the tv so that is very convenient. I put one of these in the kids play room and like the fact I can set it to Apps only and locked the menu in the settings so they can not get into the apps I do not want them to have access too. Also with Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, and Plex I have it set to a kids profile so only the stuff I want them to be able to watch will show up on the video list. As far as Stadia I heard there is a why to side load it with an APK so I will be looking into this and see if I can figure it out until it is officially supported.

I was coming from the chromecast ultra which to me was a great product, but this was way better. With Google now integrating their standalone OS, Google tv, it makes the Chromecast that much more compelling. If you are wondering whether or not it’s worth the upgrade, it is 100% worth it. The new Chromecast introduces the multi-function remote that not only integrates with “hey Google” but also allows you to control the volume and power functions of your tv. For under $55, I can’t see a better streaming device.

I bought this for a family member who has never owned anything smart other than a laptop and they absolutely love it. I have owned one for a few years now and I also really enjoy it (needs more storage though) and it was worth every penny. I hate having to pay full price but it was for a birthday and I had no choice. Keep an eye on the remote as it tends to grow legs and hide.

The reviews from CNET and Engadget are correct, this is the best version of the ChromeCast device that Google has produced. The menu interface if a much needed improvement. And, with the remote, I don't need my smartphone to control the content I want to watch. Also, I can watch HBOMax on this device, whereas I can't view on the Fire TV stick. The only thing I wish is that I purchased it earlier for the blue color, which is already sold out at Best But. The white color is fine. A great addition for any cord cutter.

The remote is (or was) nice, and the picture quality is great. I think this would be a good product for some people. But there were a few fatal flaws that have pushed me towards replacing this with a shield tv pro. The main detractor for me is the software side. Performance is not as good as I would expect. Reboots are slow, and navigation is frequently laggy. The Plex app doesn't work well at all, especially for 4k HDR content. There are some chromecast-only bugs that can distort video and/or crash the whole system, which seem to be due to the device's video playback API. I frequently found myself waiting for it to chug through some lag before I could get to what I wanted to watch. I'm also not a fan of the Google tv interface overall. It's not very customizable, and the focus is always on "recommend" content, which you may or may not have access to. Android tv, in contrast, allows you to build your own home screen with the content you want to see. With CCwGT, you better hope you will like the recommendations, because they will dominate your experience of the user interface. The remote is very ergonomic and nice to use, but after only a few months the "up" button is wearing out and requires a lot more force to press. It's also very easy to lose... But while it was working fully I enjoyed using it. Overall, it's good for the price. But durability is questionable, considering the remote and the decrease in performance over time. And the user doesn't get as much control over the experience, compared to Android tv or even an apple tv 4k. It didn't quite meet my needs.

I have bought 3 of this Chromecast device. I bought 1 last fall and I have used it regularly. I recently purchased 2 more. One for another tv and the 3rd for a gift. We are very happy with the device and it is not complicated t use. The only recommendation would be to purchase a silicone cover for the remote. I have arthritis in my hands and it would slip out of my hand. It was a cheap and easy fix for me. The cover also helps me know which remote is for what tv in case one gets carried somewhere.
