Heavily Soulsborne inspired and extremely well executed. Not quite as difficult as those games, but still challenging. I absolutely loved it.

I actually preordered this back in 2017 when the only preview about it back then was a trailer. Just from looking at it, I could tell that it would be highly relevant to my interests and two years later it's now here for me to play.
The characters have a rather anime-like aesthetic to them and if you a fan of that like I am, then this would definitely be considered a merit.
The game's mechanics draw pretty obvious inspiration from the Souls series, so if you are a veteran of those, then this should feel very familiar. The experience is a bit less lonely and you often be exploring the world with a partner at your side though.
However, don't be fooled into thinking that it's going to be a walk in the park. The enemies hit hard and careful consideration of your actions in combat is crucial to success. You will die a lot as you learn how to handle the hostile environment, and different builds and tactics are available to you if you ever feel the need to approach situations in a different way.
The story does involve a bit of interaction with the game's characters, but mostly you will be just traversing the world and fighting.
All in all, a very fun game for those who are itching for more Souls in their life.

This is one of the best games I have ever played. It is also one of the first PS4 games I played. If I recall correctly it is one of the reasons I bought a PS4 while not being the one that was the trigger.
If you're looking for a Dark Souls lookalike I would say it is a lot easier while still being difficult. (I do own, have not played 2 and 3, finished 1 of the Dark Souls trilogy.) I have finished and it is a very good story. I would recommend it if you like hard games.
It is HARD. Not as hard as Dark Souls. But still hard. One boss battle in particular may even be harder than Dark Souls. But over all it is lighter. Would recommend.

I've seen friends play Dark Souls and along with that, I've heard of how difficult it is. That always put me off from trying those games and anything similar. However, I tried this game thanks to a friend and I ended up loving it a lot. There are a lot of options for character customization and the gameplay is great! The difficulty is easier thanks to an AI partner that fights alongside you. I found the story to be really interesting as well.

This game is amazing!!! It is Anime Dark Souls to the core. The game functions very similar but the characters in the story are much more memorable and empathetic. But, best buy as always does not include the dlc code with purchase and have not reached back to me with the code till this day and I pre ordered in a year advanced... other than that fault of best buy this game is amazing!!!

It is an easier combat Dark Souls/ Bloodborne/ Sekiro like game that has an actual story with cutscenes throughout the game. Your character is able to change classes and abilities on the fly as you venture through amazing locations in this 30 hour or so journey. I would definitely buy this game if you are a fan of anime and also enjoy the style of the games mentioned above.

Code Vein seems the like type of game you either hate or love. They put effort into it and it will provide a challenge if you are looking for one. There's room for replaying the game with different weapons and abilities to give you something new to experience if you like replay value. A season pass and DLC exists but I have not played any of that. The game provides you with the option for an AI partner and it feels designed around it. You can choose to explore the world alone but it feels like you are meant to have that extra help there. The game pales in comparison to other games like it.
The main problem I had is the healing animation seeming to take too long. You can successfully dodge enemy attacks and heal but by the time it finishes the enemy will most likely be attacking you again and wipe out all the health you just restored without giving you a chance to even react to their next attack. It's mostly a problem for bosses or tougher enemies.
It's enjoyable but if you're looking for the next great game you'll have to look elsewhere.

This game is basically Anime Dark Souls. It has similar combat and can be difficult. Unlike Dark Souls, it does a lot to explain things to you and provides you constant AI support characters to help you. It also has a lot more clear cut story than Dark Souls. I had a great time with the game, but it does have it's own anime flavor that Dark Souls fans might not like as much.

Code Vein is essentially NAMCO's entry into the difficult and unforgiving Souls type adventure rpg genre. What sets it apart is the anime twist and the vampire lore. Just like any Soul game, your enjoyment will depend on whether your satisfaction at overcoming a difficult task outlasts your frustration at repeatedly failing.

Fun souls-like game with an anime twist. Excellent character creator and lots of options for play styles. Monsters are appropriately creepy. Bosses are challenging but (mostly) fair. Camera is mediocre, but it rarely gets you killed. Plot is anime nonsense, but in a good way.

I’m enjoying this game so much right now! It has a great anime look and has really tight controls. The combat is quick. The character creation options are quite fun to play around with and should not be rushed through.

If you have played any of the souls games you will feel at home with this. The game plays similar but has an anime feel over gritty realism.

I love anime and I love Darksouls so combine those two things together and you get this awesome game. Some Soul series Veterans May find this game easier than the soul series but that’s just it this game isn’t a soul series game it’s just similar concept and controls like a soul series but it’s anime and it is it’s own game . I personally Love it !
