    Great laptop!

I bought this laptop to replace my wife's aging dinosaur of a laptop and she loves it! I admit so do I and when I am ready (hopefully soon) I plan on buying one for me. ConsumerReports rates the Compaq laptops well and that was the main reason why I bought this one. However, it is a much better buy than I thought it would be. I bought it on sale for $579 and even if it wasn't on sale I would buy it (but I would find some way to discount it, I can't stand paying full price). Anyway, this is a great laptop and personally where are you going to get a Intell core 2 cpu, 3 GB of RAM, a 200 GB HD, a 17 in screen, and a RW DVD/CD drive with lightscribe for the price?

I had done research on several types of laptops and had already hit several stores when I went to Best Buy. I accidently came across the Pesario laptop in an ad and fell in love with it at first sight. It has a large screen, regular size keyboard and and moves through programs and the internet effortlessly. Two employees asked me what I was looking for and this one fit the bill perfectly. I was also also really impressed with the employees. They were very knowledgeable but did not come across as pushy. It was refreshing to be allowed to look around, get my questions answered and not be hounded to buy something even though in this case I did buy the laptop. This purchase was truly painless.

I bought this computer for school for the large hard drive and extended keyboard. As a business student, the side number pad makes entering numbers into a spreadsheet a breeze. The screen is big, bright, and extremely clear. When I saw the price, I had to look twice, and now that I am using it, the price below 600$, at the time of purchase, the computer is one of the greatest deals I have ever seen. I feel like I am cheating compaq by just buying this computer.

I bought its predecessor (T2370, with 160GB drive) on sale in May and have been very pleased overall. Now wish I had uninstalled some of the loaded software, though, since it's become progressively slower at startup as I've added more programs. (I declined BB's service that performs that and other tweaks.) My main complaint is the tiny R shift key--half the normal size, and situated so it's easy to strike the / or up arrow keys instead. Since I'm often transcribing and not looking at what I'm typing, I'm too often vexed to find that I've been typing on a previous line for some time, so the text is hopelessly corrupted. Grrrr!! With a keyboard this large (and otherwise exemplary), there's no excuse for such a pint-sized shift key--especially since there's an unused blank key just 2 keys away. Other complaints: when working outside or at a bright window, the screen can be difficult to read because of glare; and the touchpad can be balky or hypersensitive. (You can turn it off, thankfully, and use a mouse instead.) The one time I called HP tech support (to find out how to activate the trial Office software) the guy I got was neither knowledgeable nor helpful; he suggested that the 60-day trial period may have already expired on my particular laptop, and had no other advice. The solution, I now know, is to click on the Activation Assistant located under Microsoft Office in the All Programs listing on the Start button. But if you just open one of the programs (eg, Word or Excel) directly as I did and start working, you're alerted that you have only X number of usages left; and when you try to activate it from the program itself, you're prompted to register with a product key number, with no explanation as to where that number might be found. Not intuitive at all, software developers. And a puzzle common enough (to judge by some message boards I visited) that tech support folks should be in the loop. Those complaints notwithstanding, however, I'm very pleased with my purchase. When I can train my right pinky to hit the shift key more consistently--or perhaps remap the adjacent keys, as someone I consulted suggested--I look forward to smooth sailing.

Besides Vista's Operating System problems, I absolutely LOVE this system. I paid lots of money for a Vaio that was recently stolen, and thought to buy this one as a cheapy. I'm actually WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more thrilled with this over my Vaio!! My desktop is a Compaq, and it has weathered the storm.

I just bought one and found that it is much better than I expected. The performance is excelence. I love it 17-inch widescreen. I'm getting old so it would help me a lot for clear vision.

Due to the sudden demise of my old computer, I was desperate to find a decent, inexpensive laptop. I spotted this online, at a great sale price, and went for it I feared that something as inexpensive as this would be full of compromises, but this Compaq is great! It performs well and has all the features I was looking for. I was a bit unhappy to discover that Vista Home Premium has done away with some of the features that I enjoyed with XP, but that is not Compaq's fault, and Vista performs well.

As stated above, you can see what I like and dislike about this laptop. Overall, for the price of this baby, its alright. I'll just be glad when one day the manufactures and computer stores will come up with better low priced unconditional warranties already added in. That way, when you see a sales ad, you know how much everything is going to cost up front: INSTEAD! of teasing with a one item sale catcher then have to pay for all the extra to protect your investment. You know what I mean people...........lol. I might recommend this unit to my people after the 1 year limit is up.......lol. I'll tell you later.

This is my 1st laptop and I was clueless while shopping. I think I lucked out in having employee Tim lead me to this new one they didn't even have on display yet. He kindly opened a new box for me to inspect and I was sold. Easy set-up with our new router purchase, too-didn't even need to call help desk.
