Dr. Dre still bangin' out good music

14 years is a long time for a musician to go without putting out an album, but Dr. Dre has been anything but quiet during this time. From producing rap albums, working with his headphone line, and more recently, helping with production on the movie, "Straight Outta Compton" and making this album, "Compton" A Sountrack, he has kept his hands full. Now, I wasn't really sure what to expect from this album, since it has been awhile since we have heard any new Dre music. I have to say, it is a departure from the gangsta rap music he has been known for putting out, but these tunes are pretty dang good. At first I thought the album was just alright, but the more I listened to it, the more it grew on me. I would definitely recommend this CD to anyone who is into rap music. Dr. Dre gets an A+ in my book

I don't think anything can live up to Chronic and Chronic 2001. I was hoping Detox would, but after it got pushed back multiple times and then cancelled, I lost hope. I'm glad he came out with something, but it almost seems as though he just gave up by the end and instead of making another timeless album with Detox, he made an average album at best with Compton. There are good songs with some good features, but in my opinion too many features. It almost seems like he raps less than his features. I'll still bump it, but with an empty feeling.

Dr. Dre is back

Dre is back, and he brought his friends. As has been said about him before, he may not be a super-duper rapper, but he is a super-duper producer. While his rapping may be outshone (especially by his proteges Kendrick Lamar and Eminem), the album has that great Dre sound, very clean with uncommon samples. It's also nice to hear some of Dre's long term collaborators like Xzibit, Snoop Dogg, and Ice Cube. The album tells a great story, definitely one of 2015s must listen albums.

Not what i was expecting

This is definitively not what i was expecting. I heard a lot of noise regarding this album and all of the critics gave it such high praise that i guess i was expecting too much. Its ok but not great. Dont get me wrong there are plenty of bangers on it but not a classic album through and through, I tried to like the album as a whole but cant. I give it four stars as this is way better than a lot of the garbage out there but it is far from a 5 star album.

Solid album yet not quite detox caliber

Takes awhile to grow on you but a solid cd with nice features. Em, kendrick, game, snoop, and cube are all on the album. Regardless of if Dre has people writing for him he can still spit. Would've been nice to have an NWA group track considering the marketing with the movie but oh well. If you're a fan of Dre you'll grow to like the album but if you're expecting what we all thought detox would've been you might be disappointed.

A CD worth buying

I very rarely buy CDs anymore, most of my music is downloaded in MP3 format. MP3s are compact and convenient, but you trade some sound quality for that compact convenience. That with the fact that there aren't many hip-hop albums even worth purchasing. This is one of those CDs that's worth buying, not only because it's a great album, but because Dr. Dre is one of those beat makers that really pays attention to the details of the track. Details that will be missed in lower, compressed formats and the details is what has always made his beats amazing.

Don't expect 'the chronic' or '2001'. Dre's production on COMPTON is so ahead of its time & dre's flow/voice is even updated @ times!? Dope guest features also...dj premier, cube, xzibit, cold 187um, snoop, kendrick lamar! This album is definitely 1 of the best to drop this yr! A must have for dre fans!

Classic Dr. Dre Production

Dr. Dre has and always will deliver a flawless album from a production standpoint. Although he has some great features, I expected more from a lyrical aspect. He definitely paints the perfect picture of Compton. Give it your ear and let it grow on you. Each time you listen, you'll hear something new.

This album does not disappoint. After many years waiting for this artist to put out some new music, I was delighted when I heard this LP. Numerous guest artists contributed to a very good listen. There are only a few songs I tend to skip when playing through it so this one gets four stars.

I dont connect with it like I do when I listen to the Chronic or 2001, but I have lots of memories tied to those albums. This may need some time to grow on me. I might need to be old like Dre to connect with it though, he wrote his other albums as a younger guy and now he's old man.

It sounds like a Kendrick Lamar album that could have been. That's not entirely bad. Other than my problem with the OGs trying to sound young, it's a good album. Definitely great sounding!! This album could sell some Beats headphones. It's very meticulously mixed.

When I first listened to it, I wasn't overly impressed. I was hoping for a classic sound that usually only Dre does. After listening to it a few more times it's grown on me, but it seems like the focus of the CD is the other artists on it not Dre.

This cd just goes to show that if you got it, you got it. Time is not a factor when it comes to Dre staying on your game. I'm not in love with every song on this cd but it definitely gets a lot of play...My favorite is #12 "For the Love of Money".

This album is decent, but nowhere near what I expected. I'm a huge Dr. Dre fan and he is an idol of mine, but this album sounds like he was trying too hard to stay relevant. Most of the beats sound like everything else out there today. Usually when Dre releases an album, everyone else tries to sound like him. The lyrics are on point, for the most part, but this album just doesnt have that west coast bangin sound that you expect from Dr. Dre. There's a few good songs that i would recommend, but outside of that, its nothing special. The Game's new Documentary 2 and 2.5 are great. 2.5 is the best west coast album I've heard in years. I highly suggest you pick that one up, asap!

Dr. Dre comes back to the real world with his first album in 16 years. This time he comes with new and old school artists to help him tell his story. Features include Kendrick Lamar, The Game, Jon Connor, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, and more.

Production is nothing short of any Dre project, but this album is nowhere near the impact that 2001 had. I remember not being able to turn that cd off, as well as, everywhere you went someone was bumping it. Maybe Dre waited a little too long to drop his long awaited album. When you have artists like Kendrick, Yelawolf, Tech N9ne, YG, etc. dropping great albums with just as good of production with/without Dre, either using there momentum to there advantage, changing the style of rap music, and/or trying to bring the hard hitting West Coast flavor back. This one isn't one to put on repeat. This cd is good, not "bangin'", but good.

This is more of a companion piece to the movie Straight Outta Compton but I love regardless. Good beats and lyrics to just cruise through your city. Just put the CD on or hook your phone to your car and just let it play.

It's been nearly 2 decades since we last heard from Dr. Dre. When he announced "Compton: A Soundtrack", I was extremely excited! Now the big question is "Does it deliver?" and my answer to that is a resounding YES! Everything about this album is awesome, especially the production! Buy this now! You're doing yourself a disservice by not listening to this album!
